Chapter 143: Military Training

Early in the morning, Li Hongshen received a notification from his study companion robot, which then guided him to his classroom: Class 1, 1146th Cohort of Central Overlord University.

Upon entering, Li Hongshen kept a very low profile, taking a seat right in the middle—neither near the edges and corners nor at the front of the rows to act as a vanguard.

Soon, everyone in the class had arrived. With only a hundred students per class, and through conversations among some of the attendees, Li Hongshen discovered that seemingly everyone here had entered via special admission qualifications.

Furthermore, according to certain well-informed students, the first, second, and third classes consisted entirely of students admitted through special qualifications, while the remaining classes were filled by those who advanced through the national college entrance examinations.

A classmate also remarked that with so many classes across the school, virtually every single student was a top talent, making rankings almost non-existent, especially during the first year when everyone was still laying their foundations.

Outwardly, Li Hongshen remained expressionless, but inwardly he curled his lip in quiet skepticism. He agreed with certain aspects of this information—such as the idea that every student in the school was indeed a talent; whether through special admission or the entrance exams, entering Central Overlord University was proof of one's strength.

However, he refused to buy into other claims. For instance, was it true that the university had no rankings? Li Hongshen did not believe it.

If there were no rankings, there would be no distinction between special admission classes and regular classes. Moreover, if rankings were unnecessary, the university could simply hold massive lecture halls instead of breaking students down into classes of a hundred.

Li Hongshen was convinced that the students themselves knew the school maintained internal rankings; they simply kept quiet about it to save face.

And the school undoubtedly knew that the students were aware of these internal rankings, yet they remained silent as well to preserve the students' self-esteem.

After all, the so-called foundation-laying referred to the foundations of planar transit and crossing worlds; the foundational aspects of the Lord stage had already been established long ago. Otherwise, what was the point of special admissions or college entrance exams? Did they really expect students to get in based on a handsome face like Li Hongshen's?

Just as Li Hongshen intended to continue eavesdropping on campus gossip, a series of golden lights flashed across the lecture podium, materializing into a handsome young man out of thin air.

This young man had flowing long hair, sword-like eyebrows, star-like eyes, red lips and white teeth, coupled with an ethereal, immortal temperament. His mere appearance instantly subdued every student in the room.

"Hello everyone, my name is Mi Xianyun. I am a senior five cohorts ahead of you, and I will be your counselor for this coming year."

These words sent a wave of uproar through the entire class, because the sheer amount of information packed into that single sentence was staggering.

First of all, it must be noted that everyone in a Lord academy is a transcendent lord. As a four-year institution, students enrolled here receive massive resource allocations over the course of those four years.

It could be said that during these four years, every student enjoys the backing of civilization, equivalent to receiving the blessing of destiny. However, by the fourth year, everyone must obediently graduate.

Resources must be yielded to the next batch of students; there is no such thing as failing to graduate and lingering around the campus for over a decade to become an old college student in their thirties.

Although students practically only get to stay in the university for about three years—with the vast majority soaring to success and only a tiny minority falling in other realms—advancing through the tiers of a Lord is no easy feat: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Transcendent, Epic, Legend.

Yet the strength of a freshman like Li Hongshen currently corresponded merely to the Bronze tier, and even then, only half-Bronze, as he still lacked certain elements such as a law framework, an energetic professional career system, and so on.

Yet this senior, who had graduated only a year ago, was already a Transcendent Lord. One could no longer simply call Mi Xianyun a genius; he had already manifested his talent into reality and become a proper bigwig.

For Senior Mi Xianyun to climb all the way from Bronze to Transcendent in a mere five years—that speed could no longer be described as driving a flying shuttle; it was the speed of a void warship executing a spatial jump.

Seeing the uproar among the freshmen before him, a faint smile appeared on Mi Xianyun's face. It seemed he thoroughly enjoyed the reaction.

Yet he did not forget his primary duty. With a slight flick of one hand, a layer of spiritual light swept across the classroom, instantly silencing every voice.

"Let's quiet down first. We have a lot of things to attend to today. I speak, you listen. If you have any questions, you may raise your hand. Thank you."

Seeing that the entire class had quieted down, Mi Xianyun nodded and continued:

"As you should all know, the coming month will be military training. You will genuinely be sent to the front lines.

"Don't be afraid, though. The school won't let you march to your deaths. After all, you are all the pride of heaven, rare talents selected by civilization. Dying so casually would be an immense waste.

"Sending you to the front lines is simply to let you experience life, witness the cruelty of the front lines, gain some understanding of the situations civilization faces, and observe how front-line lords develop.

"I can guarantee on the reputation of Central Overlord University that the majority of you will be safe. Of course, if you actively seek death yourselves, that is a different story.

"Therefore, I hope that once you reach the front lines, you will obey the arrangements of the instructors. They have been rigorously screened, have signed strict contracts, and most of them are your seniors; they shouldn't harm you.

"Generally speaking, your lives will be guaranteed on the front lines, but that does not mean deaths never occur.

"After all, that is a true front line, where unpredictable events can happen at any moment. So, before you go, please sign this contract first, and then write your last wills."

Mi Xianyun: ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
Student A: ( ̄ェ ̄;)
Student B: ⊙﹏⊙∥
Student C: o((⊙﹏⊙))o

With a wave of Mi Xianyun's arm, numerous lord contracts and documents flew out from his sleeves and landed on the students' desks.

"Feel free to sign them. You only have a few ten-thousandths of a chance of encountering danger, and most dangerous situations will be properly resolved. You won't face any real peril.

"Of course, if you don't want to sign, that's fine too—there's still time to transfer schools.

"However, let me think... Ah, I almost forgot to tell you: military training is mandatory for all lord universities, so even if you transfer elsewhere, you won't be able to avoid it.

"Therefore, dear junior brothers and sisters, hurry up and sign. Once you're done, we can board the void warships. We're dispatching two void motherships this time, and you might even get to see a Titan-class vessel later."

The students stared at the handsome senior standing before the podium, squinting as he delivered such a ruthless message in a magnetic voice.

Listening to words like "probably," "should," and "wait" from their senior, they suddenly felt their futures looked bleak, and they could face mortal danger at any moment.

Let me clarify: for a large portion of the upcoming plot, I plan to move away from the territory management aspect. Much like what I've written in my previous works, I will focus on rounding out the protagonist's traversal abilities, acquiring foundational power, and exploring the professional systems of the myriad realms.

Additionally, I've found that publishing one 4,000-word chapter a day doesn't seem quite as effective as two 2,000-word chapters.
