“Dr. Ling Lan, were you imprisoned by Ouyang Hong because you uncovered our corporation’s secret?” Zhou Shiwen asked.

Ling Lan instinctively nodded, then remembered he couldn’t see her gesture over the phone.

With so many people present, Zhou Shiwen took the initiative to mention the core secret—what was his intention?

Before she could ponder further, Zhou Shiwen dropped a bombshell.

“So, when you left, you released all the infected as revenge against us?”

What? The infected were set free?! Yi Chen was shocked and exchanged surprised glances with Ling Lan and the others.

Though he had once considered rescuing them, he never acted on it. If what Zhou Shiwen said was true, this matter was far more mysterious than he had imagined.

“This has nothing to do with us,” Yi Chen responded after a moment of calm.

“Zihao, show them the footage from the scene,” Zhou Shiwen instructed.

Zhou Zihao, still wary of approaching Yi Chen, threw over another phone from a distance.

It contained two video clips, timestamped half an hour prior, filmed by personnel who arrived later at Future Corporation.

The first video showed the narrow corridor on the seventh floor where the battle with security guards had taken place. Yet, the once pristine white walls and large tiled floor were drenched in blood.

The camera panned over a scene that could only be described as horrifying. Every one of the more than forty security guards had been gruesomely dismembered.

Yi Chen clenched his fists until his knuckles cracked. No wonder Zhou Shiwen suspected him—such brutality was beyond human or ordinary infected capabilities.

Ling Lan covered her mouth, and the others fell into silence, their faces pale.

After the first video ended, Yi Chen opened the second.

It was filmed somewhere else inside Future Pharmaceutical’s headquarters. The floors were similarly laid out, but this one featured a large, semi-transparent research control room.

What the room had been used for was unknown now. It had been smashed to ruin, with expensive medical equipment wrecked and bloodstains faintly visible on the floor.

Behind the control room were five adjacent isolation wards. All the doors were heavily damaged and the rooms were empty.

Without Zhou Shiwen saying a word, Yi Chen understood these had been the rooms holding the infected.

“These definitely weren’t our doing. If you’re confronting us because we rescued Ling Lan, I’m willing to face you. But I will not accept false accusations—it’s a matter of principle,” Yi Chen declared.

“Some things must be said face to face to be clear. Please get into my son’s car; he’ll bring you to meet me. Come alone,” Zhou Shiwen suggested.

“There’s no need for a face-to-face. I don’t owe you any explanations. If you want to take me down, you won’t manage it with just this,” Yi Chen rejected without hesitation. He despised being manipulated.

“Heh, we don’t want conflict with you. To show goodwill, I even sent Zihao to pick you up. Open WeChat; there’s a short video inside. Watch it, then you can still refuse,”I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
