Chapter 122: Evil Conqueror
The Dream Fantasy Resort Hotel is a five-star luxury hotel, soaring up to fifty-five floors.
Its topmost floor houses a panoramic buffet restaurant. With no taller buildings nearby, diners can enjoy their meals while taking in the breathtaking views of the entire city.
Before the apocalypse, the Dream Fantasy Resort Hotel was a highlight of the Dream Island development plan in Nanchuan, attracting many tourists. Unfortunately, shortly after its completion, a black rainstorm struck from the heavens, shattering all hopes and plans.
Now, Nanchuan is divided into the outskirts and the inner city. Dream Island has become a thing of the past, leaving the Dream Fantasy Resort Hotel in a somewhat awkward existence.
“Once inside, we’ll split into two teams. Chang Qing, Cheng Xianglong, you two stay with me. Bai Ge, you and Xue Man form the other group. Use radios to communicate and alert each other immediately if anything happens,” Yi Chen quickly assigned the teams.
With so many floors and lurkers skilled at concealment, it was likely they’d have to clear the hotel floor by floor. Moving as a single unit would consume too much time and energy.
“No problem,” everyone nodded in agreement.
As soon as they entered the hotel lobby, a bunch of zombies dressed in hotel uniforms lunged at them, saliva dripping!
The loud crash from the shattered ice wall earlier, combined with the scent of fresh flesh from the two civilians in the group, had already drawn nearby zombies together.
Yi Chen and the others were prepared.
Xue Man swung her short baton, and the shattered ice on the ground seemed to come alive, freezing the front row of zombies instantly with a sharp crack.
Though the zombies lacked intelligence, their bodies still lunged forward despite their feet being frozen. Some fell to the ground, while others, more severely affected, suffered broken leg bones.
Cheng Xianglong pulled the trigger, blowing the head off a nearby zombie. As he aimed for the next target, he was stunned to see that the wave of zombies had already been wiped clean!
“What… just happened?” he asked in confusion.
Bai Ge shrugged, signaling that she hadn’t fired a single shot.
Cheng Xianglong looked toward Yi Chen.
“Don’t look at me. Snowman took them all down herself,” Yi Chen said, weaving through the disordered bodies.
“Her? When did she make a move?” Cheng Xianglong was amazed.
His attention had been fixed on his gun, oblivious to Xue Man’s actions. And given only a few seconds had passed, even her speed wouldn’t explain wiping out so many zombies so quickly!
“I can summon dozens of ice swords within ten meters simultaneously. This hall is spacious, and as they charged in close formation, I was able to take them down all at once. In other situations, I doubt the effect would be as good,” Xue Man explained truthfully.
“Impressive, very efficient!” Bai Ge gave a thumbs-up.
She noticed narrow blood holes atop the zombies’ heads — wounds caused by the ice swords.
Xue Man’s attack left the zombies intact enough to avoid a gory mess of flesh and brains splattered everywhere.
If Yi Chen or someone else had struck, it definitely wouldn’t have been so clean.
“We start clearing from the top floor down; you guys work your way up. We’ll meet in the middle later,” Bai Ge suggested.
“Sounds good,” Yi Chen agreed.
The five split as planned. Bai Ge and Xue Man took the elevator up to the highest floor — the panoramic buffet restaurant.
Yi Chen found the hotel’s layout map in the lobby.
“The waste disposal center… is on B2. My sword was thrown into the garbage by the lurkers. We’d better retrieve it first.”
“Where you say, we go!” Cheng Xianglong affirmed.
Chang Qing trailed silently, bored. With the girls gone and no familiarity with these two big guys, he had little to say.
The three descended through the service corridor to B2.
The lights here were broken, making visibility poor. Chang Qing had to remove his glasses to activate his x-ray vision.
The basement was poorly ventilated. The mix of spoiled food, refuse, corpses, and zombies created a nauseating stench that made all three dizzy.
“What’s that smell? So disgusting,” Cheng Xianglong complained, frowning.
Yi Chen could only laugh bitterly, even feeling a bit envious of Cheng Xianglong.
An ordinary person’s sense of smell wasn’t nearly as acute as an infected’s. If Cheng Xianglong’s sensitivity was two points, Yi Chen’s was ten.
Holding his breath and scanning around, Yi Chen felt his headache worsen.
The hotel’s trash was usually bagged in large sacks, but with no management for days and lurkers and zombies around, the place was a complete mess.
Garbage piled high, the stench thick. Were they expected to rummage through it piece by piece?
At that moment, seven or eight zombies, drawn by the scent of living humans, struggled up from the heaps.
Before they could get close, Yi Chen took the initiative and swiftly snapped their heads off with two quick moves.
Though the darkness was thick, obscuring his vision, Yi Chen’s senses allowed him to pinpoint the zombies’ locations perfectly.
As he acted, a sudden idea struck him.
He scratched a cut on the back of his hand, letting the bright red blood drip out.
“What are you doing?” Chang Qing noticed Yi Chen’s strange behavior and asked.
The waste disposal center was vast, with dozens of zombies nearby. The infected blood was just as enticing to them, so was Yi Chen trying to lure the monsters in order to wipe them out in one fell swoop?
Soon, commotion erupted everywhere. In the darkness, zombies emitted excited “hoho” sounds.
Cheng Xianglong grew nervous, holding his gun but unsure where to shoot.
People often fear the dark. When sight is blocked, there is always a feeling that what’s about to happen is beyond one’s control.
The zombies quickly surrounded Yi Chen. Like coordinated predators, they all lunged at their target at once!
Whoosh!
A flash of red light tore through the air, which seemed to ripple and fold.
The next moment, the zombies’ bodies were sliced in two and collapsed slowly to the ground.
“What just happened?” Cheng Xianglong heard the noise and realized the fight was over.
“Is… that the power of that sword?” Chang Qing was stunned, realizing why the lurkers had gone to such lengths to steal it. With Yi Chen wielding it, he was unstoppable!
Though the lurkers had tried every possible method, they still couldn’t destroy Victory Evil. No matter how well hidden, it was ultimately found.
Having successfully recovered Victory Evil, Yi Chen was in high spirits; finally, he was no longer unarmed.
He recalled Ouyang Hong’s words — that he and Victory Evil shared a telepathic bond, allowing no one else to unleash its full power.
Telepathy was mysterious and difficult to describe or explain in words.
If so, what if the sword “reacted” whenever its master was injured nearby?
With this thought, he deliberately hurt himself. As blood flowed, he indeed sensed a faint tremor amid the garbage heaps.
Victory Evil’s mood matched his own, eager to return to its master!
Once the sword was in hand, Yi Chen instantly slaughtered the zombies that had surrounded him.
He wiped the blade clean, removing dirt and grime. Having been apart from his weapon for so long, the feel was a bit unfamiliar; he needed time to adjust.
