Chapter 110: The Breakthrough

Lu Yu broke into a cold sweat.
Those tables and chairs must have weighed several hundred pounds altogether. No ordinary person could possibly toss them into the air and hurl them down with nothing but a few threads!
Liang Bing was equally shocked.
She had read the reports, and not one of them mentioned that the puppeteer possessed extraordinary strength. It seemed the answer lay in his strange outfit and those inconspicuous silver threads.
The equipment specially developed by Future Group had amplified his strength. His movements were effortless now, which clearly meant he had yet to reach his limit!
Although Liang Bing had been constantly thinking of a countermeasure, she had overlooked one crucial point.
The puppeteer’s true ability did not lie in this.
During the confusion just now, he had quietly threaded a silver filament into the spine of the lynx guiding their way. That was his real objective.
Just as they warily watched for the puppeteer’s next move, the lynx, which had remained still all this time, suddenly bared its claws and lunged at Lu Yu, who stood a short distance away!
The instant the lynx turned against them, Liang Bing realized what was happening—but it was already too late to warn him.
Lu Yu’s back was turned toward the lynx. It was in his blind spot!
Without the slightest hesitation, she threw herself in front of him. Lu Yu was an ordinary man. If the monstrous lynx scratched him, he would certainly be infected!
A flash of blood—
Liang Bing’s flesh was torn open, several deep gashes raked across her body.
Having succeeded, the lynx leaped onto a nearby dining table instead of immediately continuing its attack.
“What are you doing?!” Lu Yu turned around, but it was too late.
“You absolutely must not get hurt. I have to keep you safe.” Liang Bing’s face was pale, her teeth clenched tightly against her lips. Her body trembled uncontrollably from the pain.
“I’m a grown man. I don’t need you to protect me!” Lu Yu seemed angry as he helped her to her feet, his expression stern.
Liang Bing raised her head and saw determination in his eyes.
She had wanted to tell him that she and the two people facing them were all superpowered individuals, and that this lynx was a terrifying monster. She had also wanted to remind him that he was only an ordinary person and must never abandon all caution in a reckless attack.
Yet when the words reached her lips, she could not bring herself to say them.
Suddenly, she felt that this fellow resembled Yi Chen in some ways.
“Can you hold on?”
Liang Bing nodded.
“You can predict the future, but only for one target at a time, right?” Lu Yu knew very little, but at least he had determined that Liang Bing and the two people opposite them were all superpowered.
Liang Bing nodded again.

“Keep your eyes on the lynx and tell me what it’s going to do. That’s all you need to do,” Lu Yu ordered.
“But—”
“Leave the one in the sackcloth alone for now. Listen to me!” Lu Yu stressed.
Liang Bing hesitated for a moment before agreeing to his suggestion.
The puppeteer could control the lynx while launching attacks himself. Abandoning either side posed a serious risk. However, the lynx was faster and harder to evade, so they had no choice but to deal with it first.
Their entire conversation fell upon the puppeteer’s ears. He gave a cold laugh, convinced that victory was already within his grasp.
He could launch attacks with multiple threads at once, rendering Liang Bing’s precognition largely useless. And Lu Yu was merely an ordinary man, hardly a threat at all.
With one hand, the puppeteer controlled the lynx. With the other, he plucked at the silver threads, sending them winding toward the dense cluster of tables and chairs on the right. He was repeating his earlier trick.
The place was full of objects he could use and obstacles with which to trap his targets. It was as convenient as his own territory.
Dragging Liang Bing along, Lu Yu barely managed to evade the attack.
“That kid’s pretty nimble…” The puppeteer was somewhat surprised by Lu Yu’s impressive reaction speed.
But what difference did it make? The cafeteria already offered very little room to maneuver. With broken and overturned tables and chairs surrounding them on both sides, escaping would only become more difficult.
The lynx’s attacks never ceased.
Perhaps there truly was nowhere left to go. Lu Yu and Liang Bing struggled to cope, darting left and right in a zigzag pattern and making several frantic passes across the room.
Yet without either of them noticing, the distance between them and the puppeteer had gradually shortened.
The lynx sprang at them.
Lu Yu lowered his center of gravity, crouched, and snatched up a stainless-steel triangular stool from the floor with one hand, smashing it into the animal.
Liang Bing’s heart leaped. He had hit it!
As the lynx fell from midair, this was their chance!
“Go for its head! That’s its weakness!” Liang Bing shouted.
“Exactly what I was thinking.” As Lu Yu spoke, he hurled the brick he had been gripping for some time with his other hand.
His target, however, was not the lynx, but the puppeteer nearby!
The sudden maneuver caught everyone off guard.
With a loud thud, the brick struck the puppeteer across the mouth and nose. Blood sprayed everywhere, several teeth were knocked loose, and tears streamed down his face as he cried out in agony.
Liang Bing’s mouth fell open in an astonished O.
Lu Yu had clearly been dealing with the lynx. How had he suddenly changed targets and caught the puppeteer completely off guard? And his movement had been swift, precise, and vicious, landing squarely in the man’s face!
Lu Yu and Yi Chen possessed different fighting styles and rhythms, the result of ingrained habits. His body and mind had retained certain patterns of movement, which now revealed themselves unconsciously.

Yi Chen favored a direct approach, charging straight in without the slightest deviation. Lu Yu, on the other hand, excelled at feints and surprise attacks, defeating his opponents through the unexpected.
On the basketball team, Yi Chen was a forward—fearless and unstoppable, maintaining an exhilarated state most of the time. Lu Yu was a point guard, better at observing the entire court, making calm judgments, and creating opportunities for his teammates.
This ability to see in every direction and hear everything around him—something ordinary people could never achieve—was perfectly routine in Lu Yu’s daily training.
Giving his opponent no chance to recover, Lu Yu charged toward the puppeteer at full speed and swung a heavy punch!
The puppeteer was struck in the head once more. He staggered and nearly collapsed.
With such an opening before him, how could Lu Yu stop? A rapid succession of punches rained down upon the man’s head. Before the puppeteer even had a chance to beg for mercy, his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
Once Lu Yu’s initial brick attack had landed, the lynx under the puppeteer’s control fell motionless and returned to its former silence. Having been caught off guard and forced to fend for himself, how could the puppeteer spare any attention to control it?
Liang Bing was stunned by Lu Yu’s performance. But she soon sensed numerous people approaching the B1 level.
The hypnotist had called for reinforcements!
The hypnotist was still playing his flute, though he had been forced to divide his attention and send several people here. Seeing his brother knocked down, he had sensed a grave crisis.
The brothers’ powers were both control-based, but fundamentally different.
The puppeteer needed physical tools—silver threads—to exercise his abilities, making his control more direct. His primary targets were mindless zombies and lifeless objects.
The hypnotist’s targets, by contrast, were humans with rich inner worlds. Normally, he could hypnotize only a small group of people at once. The effect he had achieved today was entirely thanks to this equipment.
Without their equipment, neither of them possessed physical abilities much greater than those of an ordinary person, just like Liang Bing.
As Lu Yu advanced step by step, the hypnotist was helpless. If he wished to keep those people under hypnosis, he could not let the flute’s melody stop. That was the fundamental reason he had not joined the fight to help the puppeteer.
The reinforcements arrived. They poured through the cafeteria entrance, only to trip over the disorderly tables and chairs and go sprawling in every direction.
Lu Yu did not hesitate. He snatched the flute from the hypnotist’s lips. He tried to break it with both hands, but when it refused to snap, he abandoned the idea and simply stuffed it into his clothes.
The hypnotist’s greatest ability had no effect on Lu Yu whatsoever. He had already lost from the very beginning—and was even less capable than the puppeteer.
With no tricks left, he shouted and charged forward, attempting to claw and bite his opponent.
As if Lu Yu would let him succeed.
Lu Yu drove an elbow into the hypnotist’s temple, then followed with a kick. Before long, the hypnotist joined his brother on the floor.
