108. Chapter 108: The Magic Flute

Yi Chen was burning with rage. Whoever the mastermind behind this was, they had crossed his bottom line! Using Mu Qing’s life as a hostage to threaten him? He would make that person die a miserable death!
Gathering his energy, strange patterns reappeared on his arm. Like doing a pull-up, he grabbed Mu Qing and climbed up in one breath.
Two girls who arrived later tried to stop him, but he slammed into them and sent them flying several meters, collapsing and unable to rise.
Yi Chen held back his strength somewhat; after all, they were Mu Qing’s friends, and he didn’t want to hurt them. But if he was too gentle, and they were still able to move, they would keep attacking.
Mu Qing struggled in his arms, punching, kicking, even biting him, but these attacks had no effect.
Fearing she might harm herself again, Yi Chen hesitated for a moment and then delivered a precise hand strike to the back of her neck, knocking her unconscious.
He had learned this move from Bai Ge—it targeted an artery to temporarily cut off blood flow to the brain, causing brief unconsciousness.
Yi Chen barely exerted force but still feared hurting her too much. After checking her breathing, he finally relaxed.
Before he could catch his breath, a wave of students surged up to the tower’s rooftop—teachers and students from nearby floors in the high school section, most wielding makeshift weapons: cleaning tools, craft knives, steel rulers, chair legs. Every single one had vacant eyes.
Yi Chen laughed bitterly in fury and roared, "Which coward is hiding in the shadows, manipulating people to come after me?!"
Naturally, no one answered. Only their next move responded.
They split into two groups—some attacking him, others lunging at the unconscious Mu Qing and her two classmates.
Despicable!
Yi Chen clenched his silver teeth in hatred.
The attackers knew that with his skills, they could do nothing to him, but the female students were another matter entirely.
The assault rained down like droplets. Yi Chen could neither dodge nor retreat.
He had no choice.
If he only carried Mu Qing, there might be a chance to escape; but if he abandoned the two girls, they would undoubtedly be slaughtered by these mindless attackers.
Frustrated beyond measure, he was a powerhouse trapped helplessly—like a lion besieged by a swarm of ants, utterly ridiculous.

They were ordinary people; if he struck, they would surely die!
More students kept rushing up, joining the fray. The rooftop and stairwell quickly filled with people.
Yi Chen’s patience was gradually worn down.
If there had been any hope of escape earlier, it was now gone. The only passage was blocked by the crowd, and without wings, he could not simply leap from the tower.
To end this, he had to either defeat the controlled humans before him or take down the mastermind behind it all. Yet he was trapped and unaware of their location, making the latter impossible.
At that moment, a lynx reported a discovery. It had been wandering near the Ivory Tower and detected the infected’s location.
Hope flickered in Yi Chen’s heart. Concentrating, he sensed two individuals—somewhere inside the Ivory Tower!
This kind of detection was mutual: when the lynx found their location, they also became aware of the lynx’s presence.
But they had no intention of fleeing. Yi Chen was already cornered; even if he knew their location, he could do nothing. The real show was about to begin, and now was not the time to run.
Yi Chen quickly sent a series of commands to the lynx, which darted into the Ivory Tower, racing against time toward the 42nd floor’s junior high section.
In Class 2F of the second year, Liang Bing was in class.
She sensed the lynx approaching rapidly and was secretly surprised. Yi Chen would never allow a monster to brazenly enter the Ivory Tower—too many people around, easily noticing its presence.
Is it coming for me? Liang Bing felt something was wrong. She pushed back her chair and left, apologizing to the teacher for feeling unwell.
Liang Bing met the lynx at the stairwell.
“What’s going on?” she asked, staring at the animal.
The lynx could not communicate directly, but it led the way. Through their shared connection to the virus’s source, Liang Bing knew to follow it.
The lynx led Liang Bing up to the 50th floor, to Class 1C of the high school.
A group of students was coming out, their eyes vacant, like walking corpses, heading to the stairs to climb floor by floor.
Fear crept into Liang Bing’s heart—she had never encountered such a scene on the lower floors.
She concentrated and heard a faint, eerie whistle.
The whistle stirred ripples in her mind, attempting to control her actions. Panicked, Liang Bing abruptly stopped her mental search, feeling utterly drained and covered in cold sweat.
She now suspected what was happening: that whistle could control ordinary people!
“Where are you all going?” A lone student stood in the empty classroom of Class 1C, shouting in confusion.
Liang Bing was stunned—there was still someone not controlled?
Page 3/3
She recognized him—it was Lu Yu, a close friend of Yi Chen.
Was the lynx here to get him?
Without hesitation, Liang Bing waved to Lu Yu. “Yi Chen’s in trouble. Come with me.”
Lu Yu had never met Liang Bing before, but hearing Yi Chen’s name, he followed her without question.
“What’s going on?” Lu Yu asked.
“You’ll see soon enough.” Liang Bing wasn’t completely sure herself; the lynx was leading the way, and she was just following.
The lynx scratched a mark on the ground—a ‘B1’. Liang Bing recalled the whistle’s origin—it came from the basement.
Yi Chen was guiding her toward the mastermind’s location!
She asked Lu Yu, “Does the Ivory Tower have a basement level?”
“Yes, that’s the staff canteen. The food’s awful; hardly anyone goes there,” Lu Yu replied. Suddenly spotting the lynx, he screamed, “What is that thing? Why is it so—”
He struggled to find words to describe it.
“Lynx,” Liang Bing said coldly.
Ordinary people reacted like this when they saw monsters; she didn’t bother explaining further.
“Lynx? Who are you?” Lu Yu asked warily.
With hair like blue seaweed, a delicate porcelain doll face, and an icy aura—she clearly was no ordinary person.
“Liang Bing, a friend of Yi Chen’s. Let’s hurry, time’s running out.” Liang Bing jogged ahead to the stairwell.
Lu Yu no longer hesitated. She was just a small, slender girl—could she really be dangerous? And since she claimed to be Yi Chen’s friend, she must be trustworthy.
“Wouldn’t the elevator be faster?” Lu Yu pressed the down button for the central elevator.
“...True,” Liang Bing bit her lip. The tower was fifty floors tall; running down the stairs to B1 would take forever at her normal speed.
From this point, she could sense Yi Chen surrounded by many people at the tower’s top, struggling desperately. She had to overcome her fear of elevators and move quickly!
