Chapter 85 Truly Useless!
As soon as Long Xiaoqing finished speaking, the courtroom fell into utter silence.
The judge, momentarily stunned, immediately set aside the verdict in his hand and announced, “This court finds Tang Youzhong not guilty and orders his immediate release!”
“No, no! My son committed suicide because of him—how can you just let him go? He’s a murderer!”
“That’s right! My daughter also slit her wrists because of him. He must not be set free!”
“They call this justice and fairness, but in reality, they’re just protecting the interests of cultivators. What kind of world is this?”
“We thought Ye Xun was the guardian of us common folk, but look what he’s done! Openly undermining the law—if that’s the case, why did you give us hope in the first place?”
…
No sooner had the judge spoken than the families of the deceased caused an uproar in the courtroom.
With a cold snort, Long Xiaoqing’s voice echoed with such force that it seemed to press on everyone’s minds, subduing the crowd into silence once more.
She swept her gaze coolly over the bereaved families, who now looked at her with fear.
“My husband’s willingness to protect you is your fortune,” she said with detachment. “But you must understand—it’s not his obligation! Anyone who dares speak ill of my husband again, believe me, I’ll butcher you on the spot.”
With that, everyone fell silent, not daring to utter a word.
Long Xiaoqing continued indifferently, “My husband has something more to say: from now on, in dealing with any case, morality stands above the rule of law. And let this be clear—after this incident, cultivators in China must not assume my husband is their backing, free to act however they please.”
Finishing, she threw a glance at the two inspectors standing behind Tang Youzhong.
Under her icy gaze, the two finally understood and immediately unlocked Tang Youzhong’s handcuffs.
…
The matter was not yet over.
Tang Youzhong followed Long Xiaoqing back to the Haicheng branch of the Inspectors’ Office.
Soon, dozens of cultivators from the office were assembled.
Long Xiaoqing said coolly, “Being thrown off a building is little more than a bungee jump—no way would five people all commit suicide at once. People these days aren’t so psychologically fragile. Investigate immediately. Find out the truth. My husband said the secret realm is about to open, and some people are getting restless.”
“Yes!” the group responded and set off at once.
Once the agency staffed by cultivators began its work, their efficiency was astonishing.
Before long, the matter was clarified—there truly had been foul play.
More than a dozen cultivators at the planetary level who had infiltrated Haicheng were soon apprehended by Tang Youzhong and his team.
After a night of interrogation, the truth finally came out.
Early the next morning, the captured cultivators were brought to Haicheng Square, where Long Xiaoqing waved her hand, and in an instant, a dozen heads fell to the ground.
The minor pawns were dealt with, but the masterminds behind the scenes had yet to be punished.
“Damn it, do you really think hiding in Britain means I can’t get to you?”
On the Tianxun, having received Long Xiaoqing’s report, Yang Ye spoke coldly as he picked up his phone.
…
“Big brother! Bad news! Our men have been exposed!”
In a centuries-old British manor, a middle-aged man was playing golf when a young man hurried over, shouting.
The middle-aged man was Hu Changkong, a late-stage stellar cultivator. The younger man was Hu Changhe, his brother.
The Hu family had two branches; the one in China had already been eradicated, leaving only this British branch.
Many old cultivating families never put all their eggs in one basket. Especially when a generation produced two or more capable individuals, to avoid infighting, the family would split.
With a powerful swing, Hu Changkong sent the white ball flying straight into a hole dozens of meters away. Satisfied, he slung his club over his shoulder and said blandly, “What’s there to panic about? In four days, the secret realm will open. Once our Patriarch emerges, what can Ye possibly do to us?”
Still frowning, Hu Changhe said, “But, big brother, Ye has two super-stellar beasts under his command. Can our Patriarch really match him?”
Hu Changkong sneered, “Ye has killed so many. By that time, it won’t just be our Patriarch; the Jiang family, the Li family, and even two superstars from Fusang will act. Honestly, Ye is quite something—of the world’s twenty-some superstars, he’s managed to offend more than half! When so many powerhouses attack at once, I’d like to see how he stands against them all.”
Hu Changhe objected, “But Ye now has a whole nation at his back. Will the Patriarchs dare act recklessly?”
Hu Changkong sighed, looking at his brother with disappointment. “Don’t you understand yet? When one’s strength reaches a certain level, what does a nation matter? Under the threat of so many superstars, even Tian Zhong, Yang Ye’s supporter, will be forced to compromise. For now, though, we should keep a low profile. The distance is great, but if Ye tracks us down, it won’t end well.”
“Alright,” Hu Changhe replied with a nod.
Hu Changkong set down his club and washed his hands in a basin brought by a servant.
He had barely set aside the towel when a thunderous rumble arose around the manor.
Dozens of helicopters and hundreds of armored vehicles surrounded the Hu family estate from all directions.
“What’s going on? Changhe, go check!”
A chill ran through Hu Changkong’s heart as he spoke to his brother.
Just as Hu Changhe was about to respond, an elderly man leaned on a rosewood cane appeared before them, saying calmly, “No need.”
“Prince Alex!”
Hu Changkong was startled.
The visitor was none other than Prince Alex of Britain, a late-stage stellar cultivator whose status in Britain mirrored that of Yang Ye in China.
Alex halted, frowning. “Hu, I’m sorry, but we have no choice. We must kill you.”
Hu Changkong’s face twitched. “Why?”
Alex shrugged, “Because Ye called me. He said if I didn’t kill you, he’d bring his two super-stellar beasts to Britain, and we’d have to bear the consequences. As mighty as our empire is, we can’t withstand Ye’s havoc. Hu, you were foolish—just a few days left, and you couldn’t restrain yourself?”
Hu Changhe couldn’t help but protest, “Your Highness, we haven’t made a move against Ye.”
Alex waved a hand dismissively. “I know. Tang Youzhong was one of those who destroyed your Hu family. You just wanted to please your Patriarch before he emerged. But honestly, you’re truly useless!”
With that, Alex raised his hand.
“Wait!” Hu Changkong hurried to plead, “Your Highness, can’t you wait a few days? Just four more, until our Patriarch comes out?”
“No!” Alex pointed to a camera in the distance. “It’s all being broadcast live.”
With that, he swung his hand forcefully.
A dozen British cultivators at the stellar level appeared in a flash, and swiftly executed both Hu Changkong and Hu Changhe.
Afterward, the Hu family manor was reduced to rubble by missiles from helicopters and shells from tanks.
Alex then picked up his phone and called Yang Ye.
“Ye, are you satisfied?” Alex said with a smile.
Yang Ye replied, “Your Highness, thank you for your trouble. If you ever need any assistance, just ask.”
Alex replied, “A favor from you, Yang Ye, is more than I dare claim. But if you have the time, come to my manor and I’ll share some fine wine aged for decades.”
“Gladly!” Yang Ye replied with a laugh.
