With these words from Li Qingqing, Shen Chang’an was about seventy to eighty percent convinced. He knew Zheng Xin’s temperament all too well. Even he himself had no way to handle that girl, and her father spoiled her even more. Now that the Yuan incident had concluded, carrying that achievement, her father would be even more powerless to control her. Shen Chang’an tapped his forehead, thinking how he had ended up with such a troublemaker. Yet if he let Zheng Xin die without aid, he simply could not do it. Li Qingqing’s life was not worth trading for Zheng Xin’s; killing her and harming Zheng Xin would make Shen Chang’an a criminal.

“All right, your life is temporarily spared. Now, lead me to meet Zheng Xin. Once I see her, I’ll let you go.”

Li Qingqing hurriedly said, “My powers are currently sealed; I need to recover first…”

As she spoke, an iron rod suddenly appeared across her brow. One more step forward and it would pierce her head.

“You have no choice,” Shen Chang’an said calmly, his expression as serene as ever.

Li Qingqing bit her lip, then recalled that Shen Chang’an was willing to sacrifice an entire city’s people. If he truly thought that holding Zheng Xin hostage could make him do anything, it was just wishful thinking!

“All right! I’ll contact others and take you to see her.”

Shen Chang’an nodded, then added, “You may call for reinforcements, but if I am not the first to see Zheng Xin, or if others are present when I meet her, I will not care about anything else—I will kill you first.”

Li Qingqing could tell Shen Chang’an was not bluffing. If she really summoned help, no matter the consequences, she would have to die.

With that thought, she abandoned her schemes, sent out the message, and silently followed Shen Chang’an.

Seeing her so sensible, Shen Chang’an did not treat her harshly. He took Li Qingqing to the mutton restaurant that Li Tiedan had been insisting he visit.

Li Tiedan had been nagging about treating Shen Chang’an to a bowl of lamb soup, but Shen Chang’an had been swamped with urgent matters and could not find the time.

So Shen Chang’an brought Li Qingqing there instead. They had just sat down when Shen Chang’an asked, “Li, did you bring money?”

Li Qingqing was startled. “No, why?”

Shen Chang’an twitched his mouth; he had given all his money to Li Tiedan earlier and only now remembered he was broke.

Li Qingqing had been stripped naked, stuffed into a sheepskin made into a lamb. She did have a storage talisman with some silver coins inside, but with her powers sealed, she could not access them.

She was also unwilling to hand over the talisman to Shen Chang’an, so she simply said she had no money.

Shen Chang’an sighed helplessly and finally found a gem he had been carrying.

“Good thing I kept this one,” he said.

He had given all his wallets and modern craftsmanship gems to Li Tiedan earlier.

This gem was one he had worn casually. Without it, Shen Chang’an would have had to sheepishly take Li Qingqing back without a meal.
