Chapter 29: The Fusion of Souls (1)
The room of the Thirteenth Young Master of the Ye family was shrouded in an unusual silence, until someone finally broke it.
“Master, you’re awake at last! I was so worried about you!” Tiger Girl’s voice brimmed with joy, tinged with a hint of emotion she’d never shown before—a trace of tears.
“Who are you?” The Thirteenth Young Master looked bewilderedly at the four women embracing him. At this moment, he seemed not to recognize these women who were so important to him.
Silence fell. The four women released him and stared at him with their beautiful eyes.
“Master, don’t you know us?”
“Son, don’t you remember?”
The four women pressed him for answers and immediately proposed to call in the royal physician who lived here, to investigate why the Thirteenth Young Master appeared to have lost his memory. Perhaps the electric shock had caused some malfunction in his memory system.
“You…” The Thirteenth Young Master gazed at them, feeling a current flickering through his mind, and scenes flashed before his eyes.
“Ah!” He clutched his head, letting out a heart-wrenching cry of pain, then fainted once more.
“Master, Master…”
“Son…”
“Brother…”
“Ye Lang…”
Four voices cried out in unison as they rushed to him again.
Soon, the royal physician arrived. After understanding the situation, he began to treat the Thirteenth Young Master and attempted to awaken him.
This time, the Thirteenth Young Master responded to the physician’s efforts, waking slowly. He opened his eyes, still a little dazed, but that confusion soon faded.
“You…” The Thirteenth Young Master looked at Tiger Girl and the others.
“Master, don’t push yourself. If you don’t remember us, it’s all right. You’ll recall in time,” Tiger Girl said quickly, fearing he might faint again and suffer further pain.
“You silly girl, how could I possibly forget you? I was just confused for a moment,” the Thirteenth Young Master replied with a gentle smile. His tone was soft and slow as always, but this time the slowness felt different.
Not only that, but the Thirteenth Young Master himself seemed changed in some subtle way.
“So you remember us? You haven’t lost your memory?” Tiger Girl asked on behalf of everyone.
“Of course not. You’re my dear Tiger Girl. She’s my eternally youthful mother. She’s my mischievous sister. And she’s the beautiful and gentle Seventh Princess.” He smiled and pointed to each of them in turn.
At that moment, none of them seemed to notice that he no longer called the Seventh Princess “wife” as he used to.
Everyone was simply overjoyed that he hadn’t lost his memory, and all other concerns were temporarily forgotten.
“That’s wonderful! I was so scared you’d forget me,” Tiger Girl hugged him, still sounding a little frightened.
“Silly girl, even if I forgot everyone else, I’d never forget you,” he said with a smile, though his words inadvertently provoked the other three women.
“What did you say?!” Ye Blue Rain and the other two immediately demanded, especially Ye Blue Rain and Long Anqi, each twisting one of his ears.
“You little rascal! I cared for you for nothing!” The two shouted angrily, one on each side.
“I’m sorry! I meant to say, even if I forgot who I was, I’d never forget all of you,” he quickly corrected himself.
“Hmph, you’re forgiven!” The two said together, then hugged him tenderly. No one knew how they managed to embrace a thirteen-year-old boy so many times.
“Ye Lang, do you remember why you came home?” The Seventh Princess, seeing the mood had calmed, asked curiously—a question everyone wanted answered.
“Uh, it was a foolish thing. I wanted to come back and tell Tiger Girl that I’d be staying overnight in your palace because of the thunderstorm,” he said, a little embarrassed.
Silence. The group couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. He could have just gone home instead of spending the night there—only he would do something so silly.
After a while, Tiger Girl asked, “Master, were you afraid I’d be worried?” She sensed the meaning behind it, having spent so many years at his side; she understood him well.
“Yes,” he nodded, admitting it.
“Master… you’re so foolish!” Though her words sounded reproachful, Tiger Girl’s heart was warmed beyond measure, and all her past hardships seemed insignificant.
“I know, I’ve done countless foolish things in my life, but this time I did the right thing; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been struck by lightning, nor would I have…” He laughed, trailing off.
Ye Blue Rain said irritably, “Happy about being struck by lightning? You really are a fool… Wait, brother, your words sound strange today, completely unlike before.”
“Yes, I felt it too. Lang’s words have a quality I can’t quite describe,” Long Anqi agreed, equally puzzled.
“I feel it as well,” said the Seventh Princess.
Others might not notice the Thirteenth Young Master’s change, but these women who cared for him sensed something was different, even if it took them a moment to realize.
“It’s just your imagination, surely,” he replied.
Tiger Girl looked at him and said simply, “Master has become smarter!”
Exactly—that was the feeling. He used to love saying silly things, but today there was no trace of that foolishness, and his reflections on past mistakes didn’t sound like the words of a fool.
“Brother, could it be that the lightning strike made you smarter?” Ye Blue Rain touched his head, looking genuinely perplexed.
The Thirteenth Young Master was silent; her words rang true.
He was Ye Lang, the lucky soul who discovered a martial arts treasury in the abyss of despair, but also unlucky enough to be struck by a rare meteor, obliterating him from the earth. Perhaps, owing to the strength of his last wish, he became a privileged wastrel, squandering his wealth endlessly.
