Chapter 156: Assassin (3)
"Even though you are wearing a mask, you still exposed half of your face, your neck, your hands..." Ye Lang said to the young girl, Cold-Blood Number Five. When her hands were mentioned, she instinctively glanced at her own hands and pulled them back. Normally she always wore gloves, and no one ever got to see them.
Just now, because she needed to wash and cook the vegetables, she had taken off her gloves. Although she could have kept them on just the same, it seemed she felt that this pair of gloves was stained with too much blood and was far too dirty.
"From these features, I can calculate your age. It is actually quite simple. A woman's skin..." Ye Lang began reciting some professional knowledge, leaving Cold-Blood Number Five completely bewildered. She had never heard before that a person's age could be told from such places.
She found this rather novel and listened with rapt attention. To her, this was also a very good piece of knowledge that could help her better distinguish people's characteristics.
While Ye Lang was talking inside, the people outside were growing somewhat anxious. If this went on, would they still get to eat? Besides, was that kid Frank actually killed by Lord Five and stewed into soup?
Sigh, it looked like there would be a lot of cleaning up to do again!
Yet, no matter how hard they racked their brains, they could never have imagined the situation inside. Cold-Blood Number Five was actually listening quietly to Ye Lang speak. This was not the calm before the storm, but genuine peace.
"Ahem, that's enough for today. I'm full, and I'm heading back." After talking for a long while, Ye Lang stopped. As he spoke, he had also been eating the food along the way.
"..." The young girl, Cold-Blood Number Five, was stunned once again. She discovered that all the dishes she had meticulously prepared had actually been eaten up by Ye Lang.
"So full, so full! I might suffer from indigestion today, I'll need to do some exercise later..." Ye Lang patted his belly. Although the dishes made by Cold-Blood Number Five weren't very many, they were quite enough for him.
With that, Ye Lang prepared to leave, completely disregarding the young girl beside him.
If the members of the Cold-Blood Syndicate knew about this situation, who knew if their jaws would drop in shock that someone dared to treat her this way... But the young girl immediately stepped forward to block Ye Lang's path, preventing him from leaving. Do not misunderstand; she wasn't doing it for the sake of those leftovers, though she did care about them a lot and really wanted to give Ye Lang a good beating.
What she was after was—"Wait, you haven't finished what you were saying. Finish it before you leave."
Cold-Blood Number Five still wanted to hear the rest. Those insights were very interesting; they could help her better identify targets, reduce the possibility of making mistakes, shorten the time needed for verification, and improve the efficiency of her missions.
"I already said that's it for today. If you want to listen, cook me another meal tomorrow, and maybe I'll consider finishing it," Ye Lang said nonchalantly. This was blatant blackmail.
"You really have a lot of nerve, daring to blackmail me?" the young girl said coldly.
"This isn't blackmail, it's a conditional exchange. If you aren't willing, forget it. Anyway, your dishes are only slightly better tasting, and I'm not a picky eater. Eating from the kitchen is just the same, as long as it fills my stomach," Ye Lang said indifferently. His standards for food were indeed very low; as long as it was edible, it would do.
Even with Zhen Xiaoyan pampering him with delicious food every day, she still hadn't spoiled his palate. Of course, given a choice, he would naturally choose to eat Zhen Xiaoyan's cooking—there was no reason not to eat something good.
"My cooking is only slightly better tasting?" The young girl frowned, seemingly a bit displeased. She seemed to care deeply about this matter.
Actually, she didn't prepare these dishes for the purpose of killing; she simply enjoyed cooking. Aside from killing, she knew how to do nothing else, and she even doubted whether she was still a woman. Of course, originally she didn't need to consider herself a woman because she was Cold-Blood Number Five.
However, a young girl was still a young girl. She liked to cook for herself, but she was afraid of being seen by others, fearing they would think she was weak as a woman and no longer fear her.
Over the years, she had always protected herself, keeping a distance from people. It was precisely because of this that she grew increasingly cold, while at the same time, the more people she killed, the heavier her murderous aura became.
If one wanted to know why she killed and why she had killed so many people, the explanation was actually quite simple, as long as one knew what role she played in the Cold-Blood Syndicate.
An assassin!
Cold-Blood Number Five was an assassin. She led the assassination squad of the Cold-Blood Syndicate, and what she did every day was kill people, or order others to kill people.
A cold-blooded assassin—this referred not to her personality, but to her profession!
Because of this, how could an assassin ever display a girlish side in front of others? Therefore, she used cooking as a cover, letting people think she was preparing poisonous food or crafting tools for murder. No one knew that inside, she merely wanted to cook and do the things ordinary girls would do.
In fact, she also knew needlework, but she could do that hidden away in her room where no one else would ever know.
However, whether it was needlework or culinary arts, she was always alone, with no one to share it with. Ye Lang was actually the first person to share that with her. As she watched Ye Lang eat the food she had made, a strange feeling arose in her heart. Perhaps that was the reason why she had acted a little strangely today.
Yet, even though Ye Lang offered praise, he also claimed her food wasn't the best, rating it only slightly better than average. This made her feel quite uncomfortable, though she could not show it.
"Mhm!" Ye Lang hadn't noticed anything amiss and nodded in reply.
"Then what kind of food do you consider truly delicious?" the young girl asked.
Ye Lang thought for a moment, then said, "I can't really put it into words. Delicious is just delicious, like the kind the Fatty cooks."
"Fatty? Who is that?" Cold-Blood Number Five asked. She wanted to pay a visit to elevate her own culinary skills to a higher level.
"Just a fatty who only knows how to eat all day long," Ye Lang replied, though his words were as good as unsaid. "Aiya, I'm not talking with you anymore. Remember to cook something for me tomorrow, I'm heading back!"
Ye Lang bolted. This time, Cold-Blood Number Five did not stop him, letting him leave freely. After all, the monk might run, but the temple couldn't run away; surely she didn't fear that Ye Lang could fly out of the Cold-Blood Syndicate's headquarters.
Hmph, you can't escape from the palm of my hand!
"Eh, Frank, you're not dead yet?" When Ye Lang came out, the people outside cried out in slight astonishment.
"Not dead! You guys really know how to spin wild tales. There wasn't any Cold-Blood Five in there at all, causing me to go hungry for so long for nothing. I'm not talking anymore, I'm going for a walk..." Ye Lang muttered in complaint, then vanished from everyone's sight.
"Lord Five wasn't inside? That's impossible, she clearly went in just a moment ago." Everyone looked puzzled. Could it be that Lord Five had already left?
