Chapter 139: Come on, Show Me
“F-f-fifty fist-sized gemstones?!”
Fiona was so astonished by the quoted price that she could hardly speak.
Near Goge Camp, a gemstone of this size could be exchanged for roughly a thousand gold coins. Fifty of them would be worth…
Fiona counted on her fingers and quickly arrived at the answer.
“Fifty thousand gold coins!”
The moment she said it, she seemed frightened by the figure herself. She instinctively took a step or two backward and murmured, “An ordinary hero couldn’t save up that much in an entire lifetime! What on earth is inside this thing… for it to be selling at such a price?”
As she spoke, she opened the bag a crack and peered inside. The dazzling light nearly blinded her.
“Balls… golden balls of light…”
The bag was filled entirely with the same golden orbs of light she had obtained before—several dozen of them.
“Are all of these supposed to be sold? Their value… Well, they are expensive, but I think they’re definitely worth it!” Fiona muttered to herself. She walked a short distance into the camp, hesitated, then turned back and said, “Captain, are you really sure you want to sell these? Even if you do, you could put them up for sale somewhere larger, like the black market or an exchange. They’ll be very difficult to sell here!”
“Fiona, this is the first task I’ve assigned you as your captain. If you don’t want to go, or if you no longer wish to be part of the team, you may leave at any time. But do not question my decision,” Luo Yong said emotionlessly.
“Uh… Captain! That isn’t what I meant. Of course I—I just…” Fiona hurriedly tried to explain.
“Go!” Luo Yong waved his hand and pointed ahead.
“Yes! I’m going right now!”
Fiona trotted away on quick little steps. After only a few paces, she turned back again and said in a tentative tone, “Captain, um… as a member of the team, is there any kind of internal discount? I’d like to buy more… At the very least, I want to buy one more, but I can’t afford it…”
As she said this, she stopped fidgeting and stood there with her head lowered, her expression somewhat dejected.
“Since it’s a task, there will naturally be a corresponding reward.” Luo Yong sighed inwardly. What kind of child was this? Why was she making so much trouble…
A golden orb of light appeared in Luo Yong’s hand.
Then, under Fiona’s astonished gaze, he tossed it to her.
“Huh? Th-this… you’re giving it to me?” Fiona stared blankly at Luo Yong, seemingly unable to believe it.
Something priced so extravagantly—and the captain had simply handed it over to her?
“Are you still not going?”
Luo Yong pointed toward the camp, a trace of anger in his voice.
“Yes, Captain! I guarantee I’ll complete the task!”
Fiona stood straight, gave him a soldier’s salute, then cheered and dashed into Goge Camp like a streak of smoke.
At the entrance, the cold-faced guards asked her a few simple questions. Mages and warriors belonging to the Holy Light faction were generally free to travel wherever they wished, and no one would deliberately make things difficult for them.
The bearded guard made a record, offered her a few reminders, pointed her in the right direction, and then let her enter.
Fiona jogged through the camp, made half a circuit, and soon found the grocery store called Leisure Time.
At that moment, the shop contained several golden-haired, pointed-eared elves, a number of beautiful female heroes, and a little girl who looked no more than seven or eight years old.
Rows of shelves stood all around them, displaying various weapons, items, and scrolls.
So this must be where Captain Luo bought those tactical scrolls!
But why hadn’t he come inside himself?
“Welcome to Leisure Time. How may we help you?” asked a tall, slightly slender female hero with short flaxen hair.
“Um…” Fiona could not immediately determine the woman’s profession. After a brief pause, she said, “I have some things I’d like to consign for sale here.”
“Oh?” Arya was momentarily stunned. Consignment services were available at any reputable store, but this grocery shop in Goge Camp had limited resources and a rather narrow range of business. This was the first time anyone had brought up such a request.
“Consignment?” The Barbarian Priestess came over, and the others turned to look as well.
“What is it? Would you mind letting us inspect it?” Wendy approached with Sally.
Everyone else except Fatty Gel gathered around too.
“It’s this.”
Fiona opened the bag and showed the contents to the beautiful female heroes. “This is a powerful magical item. It can form a contract and summon a magic-energy battle puppet… or various other things…”
“Is that so?” Arya narrowed her eyes, clearly unconvinced. The little girl in front of her seemed rather like a small-time swindler.
“What kind of magic-energy battle puppets can it summon? And how much are you selling them for?”
“It can summon… um, the price is fifty gemstones.” As she spoke, Fiona gestured with her hands. “They have to be about the size of fists. In gold coins, that comes to roughly fifty thousand.”
“Wow! That’s amazing!” Sally’s eyes widened. She still did not have a clear idea of how much fifty thousand gold coins actually represented, but it sounded like an astonishing amount.
“…”
“Fifty…”
“Gemstones that large…”
The beautiful female heroes muttered among themselves and exchanged strange glances.
In the past, they would not have been able to produce even a single gemstone, let alone fifty.
But now…
“This whole bag… of balls is worth fifty gemstones?” Arya reached out to take it, looking as though she suspected she was being cheated.
Then she thought it over. The price had been set by the consignor. Whether it was high or low, it had nothing to do with her. If the items sold, the shop would receive its stipulated ten percent commission.
If they did not sell, the shop could still charge a certain storage fee.
Either way, they would not lose anything.
“No!” Fiona hugged the bag to her chest and turned away as if afraid someone might snatch it from her. Shaking her head, she said, “One golden orb of light sells for fifty gemstones!”
“What?!”
“What?”
“What kind of treasure is this, to be selling at such a price?”
The group immediately began voicing their doubts.
“You’re not here to cause trouble, are you?” Arya said coldly. Narrowing her eyes, she advanced step by step.
“Little girl, you should understand that you’re standing before a Curse Witch. At such close range, you wouldn’t have the slightest chance.”
“Um…” Fiona took several steps back and said angrily, “What’s so impressive about being a Curse Witch? I’m a Holy Sword Knight myself! And my captain is waiting for me outside! He’s incredibly powerful!”
“Arya, this is a legitimate shop. We have defensive barriers,” Wendy murmured, pulling Arya back. She then turned to the stubborn-looking girl and said, “We can accept this consignment, but are you certain you really want to sell it at that price?”
“Certain!”
Fiona nodded earnestly. She looked at Wendy, then at the other beautiful female heroes, and said with utmost seriousness, “The price may be high, but it is absolutely worth it… It’s worth every bit of that price!”
By the end, Fiona had calmed down. Thinking of Luo Yong and everything she had witnessed, she found confidence in her heart and became utterly composed.
“Really? Then I’d like to see it for myself!” Arya said irritably.
“Let’s complete the formalities first.”
Wendy led Fiona to several elves, made a record, accepted the items, and handed Fiona a specially made receipt bearing a unique magical seal.
“Come on. Show us.”
Once everything had been taken care of, Arya was the first to approach.
“Let’s see why this golden orb of light is worth fifty gemstones.”
“All right.”
Fiona nodded. This was the first task Captain Luo had given her, and he had even provided her with a reward in advance. No matter what, she had to complete it properly!
She considered the matter. Although the other party owned a shop and could certainly produce fifty gemstones, they might not be willing to casually spend them on an unknown golden orb of light.
So she raised a hand and summoned her own pair of wings of light.
“Look. I formed a contract with this one myself, and it summoned these Wings of Light.”
As Fiona spoke, she positioned the wings behind her. Then, right in front of everyone, she actually flew into the air.
“Wow…”
This time, it was not only Sally. Arya, the Barbarian Priestess, and the other members of the team all cried out in astonishment.
Fiona flew once around the camp at astonishing speed before landing in front of them again.
“My goodness!”
The Curse Witch cried out in surprise. After learning the girl’s level from Fatty Gel, she could no longer remain calm.
“Judging from the magical fluctuations, she really is level fifteen!” Wendy said with a frown.
“Young people these days are truly remarkable…” the Storm Warlock sighed.
“What kind of person must her captain be, then?” the Wilderness Hunter asked.
“These Wings of Light can be removed as well as used for flight.”
As Fiona spoke, she demonstrated, wielding the wings as a pair of blades.
There were restrictions in the camp, although they were not comprehensive. For example, flying was not restricted.
However, when Fiona swung the two blades of light, only magic shimmered across their surface. They did not actually shoot outward.
“Ah, there are restrictions here.”
After finishing her demonstration, Fiona put the item away and looked at the beautiful female heroes.
Their expressions were somewhat complicated, and the simple-minded girl could not understand why.
“Although your Wings of Light are impressive, they still don’t prove that they came from that orb,” Mira suddenly said.
“That’s right.” Lillian nodded.
“Um, this…” Fiona hesitated, then took out the orb of light she had just received.
She had originally intended to keep it and form a contract with it in secret when no one was around, treating it as a hidden trump card.
But seeing the situation before her, and thinking of Luo Yong—
This was the first task Captain Luo had given her. She absolutely had to complete it properly!
“All right. Then I’ll let you see for yourselves!”
