Chapter 126: Attack on the Police Station
Eighteen mid-to-high-level Jiang family ninjas swiftly slipped into the seventeenth floor, followed closely by Fang Panguo’s special task force. Five minutes after the task force passed through each level, SWAT officers would follow, standing guard along the corridors. Each hallway was lined with a dozen heavily armed officers, their eyes sharp and vigilant, gripping their steel rifles.
On the seventeenth floor, over a dozen black shadows appeared on the pristine white marble floor. As they neared Jiang Luyu, they revealed their true forms, bowed to him, and then stood silently behind him. Shortly after, Fang Panguo arrived.
Seeing that everyone had gathered, I said to Fang Panguo, "Brother Panguo, you are the police; you decide how to handle this. I am going to save my friends first." With that, Jiang Luyu, Wang Yong, and I turned to find the room Jiang Luyu had mentioned.
Meanwhile, back at the police station, Ichiro Sakata sat with a cigarette dangling from his lips, his gaze calm as he looked at the officer interrogating him. He refused to speak a word, feigning ignorance of the Chinese language, which infuriated the officer to the point of nearly resorting to violence.
However, none of the officers realized that subtle changes were taking place beneath the station. A close observer would have noticed a massive lizard digging its way toward Sakata’s interrogation room.
Above ground, several officers had already been secretly murdered in the restrooms. Upon death, their bodies dissolved into ash, and when the "officers" emerged from the restrooms again, their behavior had become subtly distorted—and if one looked closely at their shadows on the wall, a long, thick tail trailed behind them.
These demonic cultivators, now disguised as police, quickly seized control of the lobby. Every officer who died was promptly replaced by a cultivator. In little time, even the Deputy Commissioner was not spared.
About half an hour later, only three officers remained in the interrogation room questioning Sakata.
"Creak..."
The door to the interrogation room swung open. To the shock of the three officers, the Deputy Commissioner walked in, accompanied by several subordinates. They were stunned; the Deputy Commissioner never entered the interrogation rooms, and Fang Panguo had strictly forbidden any interference with ongoing interrogations, warning that any officer who stepped inside would face disciplinary action.
"Deputy Commissioner Liu, you cannot enter..."
"Splat!"
"You... you... you!"
One interrogator stood up, but before he could finish his sentence, the sound of a sharp blade piercing flesh echoed through the room.
The officer collapsed, twitching on the floor. Within half a minute, white smoke rose from his body, and he dissolved into a pile of dust.
"Xiao Wang, sound the alarm! I’ll hold them off!"
An older interrogator shoved the officer named Xiao Wang aside and blocked the path of the imposters, urging Wang to hit the alarm button inside the interrogation room.
Wang Fan, the officer called Xiao Wang, was an elite graduate of the Police Academy. Despite the dire circumstances, his training kept him from the paralyzing fear that might have gripped a lesser officer. Agile and quick, he shoved Ichiro Sakata aside and slammed his finger into the alarm. The siren wailed throughout the entire police headquarters, but ten minutes passed without a single responding officer.
The older interrogator was already dead, reduced to ash like the first. The room was now filled with the malicious sneers of the fake police, and even Ichiro Sakata burst into laughter.
"Young man, are you unaware of the abilities of us demonic cultivators? You must not watch much television or film, and you certainly haven't read 'The Years I Spent as a Demon Corpse.' If you had, you would understand!"
The leader of the cultivators finished speaking, and they all reverted to their true forms. With mouths full of jagged, reptilian teeth, they lunged at Wang Fan. Amidst his agonizing screams, Wang Fan was torn to pieces, his blood painting the walls of the interrogation room, while Ichiro Sakata watched the carnage with indifference.
Back on the seventeenth floor of the Qinghua Group building, the wealthy captives finally emerged from their long confinement, tearfully shaking hands with Fang Panguo and his team.
Jiang Luyu found his grandfather, an old entrepreneur who had been imprisoned for over a decade. He had been captured just as he was building the Jiang Group, and he had spent the last dozen years in this hellish captivity.
Though his grandfather no longer recognized him, Jiang Luyu still remembered his features, and the pull of blood ties remained strong. It was only when Jiang Luyu whispered his childhood nickname that his grandfather pulled him into a tearful embrace, recounting the hardships of the last decade.
Wang Yong and I went to the adjacent room where Er Peng, Wang Sheng, and Tong Xuan were being held. I focused my intent, channeling supernatural energy into my arm.
"Bang!"
A pale golden bolt of energy shot from my fingertip, striking the lock of the iron door with the speed of a bullet. The lock shattered instantly.
"Creak..."
I pushed open the door to find the three of them. Er Peng was mostly recovered, likely treated by the sorcerers, while Wang Sheng and Tong Xuan were perfectly fine and full of life.
Once everything was settled, Wang Yong and I bid farewell to Fang Panguo and Jiang Luyu. We took Wang Sheng, Tong Xuan, and Er Peng in Wang Yong’s car and headed straight for Uncle Mao’s residence in the suburbs, hoping he could use his powers to purge the residual toxins from Er Peng’s body.
"Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep!"
No sooner had we left than Fang Panguo’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his brow furrowing as he addressed his task force: "Quick, gather the troops! Evacuate the Qinghua Group immediately and head back to headquarters! The headquarters has been attacked by unknown assailants!" He scrambled into the elevator, urging his men to leave.
A dozen police cars sped away from the Qinghua Group, reaching the headquarters in about ten minutes. The building was deathly quiet. Fang Panguo searched several rooms but found no one; even the guards at the entrance had mysteriously vanished.
"Ah!"
A female member of the task force screamed from the third floor. Hearing her cry, Fang Panguo rushed toward the sound.
Upon arriving, he was met with a gruesome scene. The floor of the interrogation room was littered with gnawed limbs and pools of blood. The sheer horror of the sight left every officer who witnessed it trembling with terror.
