Chapter 85: A Fortunate Mistake
Zhang Chen and Qi Jia Jia rushed to the museum after getting the money, and at the telescope on the top floor, they ran into Chu Yao and Wen Yi Ming, who had just relocated from Rose Street.
Chu Yao asked, "Did you get the money?"
Zhang Chen excitedly flaunted the two dollars he'd just acquired. "It wasn't easy."
Qi Jia Jia glanced at Wen Yi Ming, noticing he was carrying a backpack and holding another, clearly belonging to Chu Yao. In this regard, Wen Yi Ming was unfailingly considerate.
But once, he was the man who carried her bag; now, he held another woman's. Comparing Zhang Chen, she felt grateful enough that he didn't ask her to carry his things for him—never mind carrying hers.
"How about you two? Did you finish with the telescope? Did you get it right?" Qi Jia Jia asked.
"Not a chance. We started at Rose Street, but it was tough, so we came here. After climbing all the way up, we realized you have to pay to use the telescope," Wen Yi Ming replied.
"Is it difficult over there too? What's the hard part?" Zhang Chen was curious.
"The street is huge. We searched for ages and couldn't find the wedding venue, not a single clue," Chu Yao said with a laugh-cry, "We ran ourselves ragged, so we came here."
"You shouldn't have come—it's tough here too!" Zhang Chen became animated. "Do you know how hard it was to get these two dollars?"
Wen Yi Ming, hearing this, felt they should hurry and earn some money, so he stopped talking and pulled Chu Yao away.
"Are your eyes sharp?" Zhang Chen asked Qi Jia Jia. "Do you want to look, or should I?"
"I'm a bit nearsighted," Qi Jia Jia replied bluntly.
"Then I'll do it."
Zhang Chen inserted the money and used the telescope to search for the old church in the distance. After a while, he locked onto the direction, then started counting the tourists taking photos at the entrance.
"Be careful, we only get one shot at this," Qi Jia Jia reminded him.
"Looks like fourteen people."
"Fourteen are all taking pictures? That many?"
"Oh, wait, just those taking photos—eight? Hey, is that guy really taking a picture? What's he doing, running all over the place?"
Zhang Chen rubbed his eyes and started counting again, cursing the show's production team in his mind.
What a rubbish task, nothing but torture.
In the end, he settled on eight, but the production team announced his answer was wrong.
Their hard-earned two dollars were gone just like that.
To try again, they'd need another two dollars.
The two of them left the museum, dejected.
Meanwhile, Xu Jun Ze and Li Jia Yan, who had moved to Rose Street, were having much better luck. They split up, asking everyone where a wedding was being held, and finally caught someone who pointed them in the right direction.
"There's one at the manor now."
Following the directions, Xu Jun Ze and Li Jia Yan soon found the Rose Manor, and sure enough, saw wedding decorations at the entrance.
Initially, they worried about not having invitations, but soon discovered that mentioning the show's name got them in.
Yet, the awkward part was that the ceremony was already over and the guests were dining. Xu Jun Ze and Li Jia Yan barged in, empty-handed, making the scene embarrassingly tense.
"Who are you?" the bride and groom, seeing unfamiliar faces, warmly approached.
"Uh, we... we are..." Li Jia Yan smiled and nudged Xu Jun Ze.
Xu Jun Ze awkwardly picked up, "We're here to perform for you."
"Oh! Really? Thank you, we're looking forward to it," the groom said, tapping his glass three times to quiet the guests and announce an impromptu performance.
Totally unprepared, Xu Jun Ze and Li Jia Yan began to panic.
"What are we supposed to perform?" Li Jia Yan whispered.
"Maybe you could play the piano?" Xu Jun Ze, feeling the pressure, suggested.
"Where's the piano? Besides, what piano piece would make them laugh?" Li Jia Yan was doubtful.
"How about we just dance?"
"I can't dance... Maybe you should?"
"I can't either... but I could try."
"What will you dance?"
"The chicken dance?"
"...Good luck."
Xu Jun Ze, bracing himself, performed a clumsy, awkward chicken dance in front of the guests.
Li Jia Yan couldn't bear to watch, stifling her laughter until her shoulders shook.
In the live stream chat—
[Boss Xu, you're too much for my eyes]
[Someone, escort him out]
[You do have a bit of a sense of humor]
...
The guests laughed, except for the bride and groom, who looked painfully embarrassed.
After finishing, Xu Jun Ze realized his boldness hadn't accomplished the task, and he wished he could disappear.
Li Jia Yan was equally at a loss.
"They seem hard to amuse," she whispered.
"I don't think it's that—they probably feel I ruined their classy, romantic wedding," Xu Jun Ze said, half laughing, half crying.
"What should we do?"
"Maybe we should just leave?"
"Back to Main Street?"
"......"
At that moment, the bride frowned and asked incredulously, "Is this really your performance?"
Li Jia Yan, feeling guilty for having ruined their wedding, suddenly wanted to make amends.
"I'll sing you a song to wish you a happy marriage and lifelong happiness! Sorry, my English isn't great, so I'll sing a song from my country."
The bride looked intrigued, warmly handing her the emcee's microphone.
Li Jia Yan nervously cleared her throat; there was no accompaniment, so she sang a cappella.
"My world becomes wonderful and indescribable, I thought it was a dream descending from the heavens, until I knew the warmth of your hand came from your heart, in this moment, I finally dared to say I love you..."
She sang from memory, summoning all her courage.
The bride exclaimed "woo" in surprise, smiling, "That's a song by my idol."
Unexpectedly, Li Jia Yan had randomly chosen a song that hit home for the bride, who turned out to be a foreigner who could speak Chinese, though she didn't look Asian at all.
In the end, the bride and groom danced joyfully to Li Jia Yan's song, their dancing far outshining Xu Jun Ze's earlier chicken dance.
Li Jia Yan and Xu Jun Ze were stunned—did they just succeed?
