Chapter 22: A Personal Bedtime Interview, Part 1
Interview Room.
Wen Yiming entered the post-shoot interview room with a pleased and contented look. The staff, noticing his good spirits, greeted him as routine, “It’s your first day of filming—how does it feel? Are you adjusting well?”
“It’s fine, I think I’ve adapted pretty well,” Wen Yiming replied, straightening his clothes in front of the camera with a smile.
“That’s good. If you run into any difficulties, just talk openly with your producer.”
“Are you ready? If you’re ready, let’s begin recording.”
“Ready to start,” Wen Yiming said, sitting upright before the camera, waiting for the staff to begin the interview.
Staff: “During dinner tonight, you listened to your ex introduce you in a recording. How did you feel at that moment?”
Recalling his feelings, Wen Yiming replied, “At that moment… I felt a bit embarrassed. She spoke very well of me, which I didn’t expect.”
Staff: “After spending the day with everyone, which female guest made the best impression on you?”
Wen Yiming: “That’s a tough question…”
He thought for a moment, then said, “I think all the female guests are great, but if I have to pick one… it would be Chu Yao. I cooked with her today, so we spent the most time together. She’s really nice.”
Staff: “How many goodnight messages did you receive tonight?”
Wen Yiming: “One.”
Staff: “Do you have a guess who sent it?”
Wen Yiming: “Personally, I think it was Ye Fangfei.”
Staff: “To whom did you send your goodnight message?”
Wen Yiming: “Ye Fangfei.”
Staff: “Why not Chu Yao?”
Wen Yiming paused to consider, then answered, “I thought about sending her one, but Fangfei seemed quite tired tonight. As a guy, I felt I should check in on her, so I sent it to her.”
The staff smiled at him. “Alright, that’s all for today’s interview. You can head back now.”
Wen Yiming, a bit surprised, asked, “That’s it?”
Staff: “We shouldn’t take up too much of your rest time, right?”
Wen Yiming left the interview room.
Once outside, he received a text:
“How did it go? Report back!”
Wen Yiming glanced instinctively at the nearby cameras and replied: “Not convenient now. I’ll tell you when there aren’t any cameras.”
After Wen Yiming, the next to be interviewed was Li Jiayan.
“What number am I?” Li Jiayan asked the staff curiously as she entered.
“Third.”
“The interview order isn’t the same as this morning’s, is it?”
“No, there’s no set order this time, we just notified people at random. Ready to start?”
“Let’s do it.”
The interview officially began—
Staff: “After hearing your ex’s recording introducing you tonight, how did you feel?”
Li Jiayan pursed her lips thoughtfully, then smiled. “Honestly, I was quite moved. We’ve been apart for so many years—I didn’t expect he’d still remember little things, like how I’d get mad and crave sweets.”
“I couldn’t help thinking, huh? What’s with this guy! Could it be he’s still thinking of me?”
Staff: “Did he make your heart flutter again today?”
Li Jiayan tucked her hair behind her ear, answering seriously, “No, not really.”
Staff: “It’s your first day getting to know everyone. Which male guest left the deepest impression?”
She tilted her head, considered, then replied with a smile, “Zhang Chen, I suppose.”
Staff: “To whom did you send your goodnight message tonight?”
Li Jiayan: “To Zhang Chen.”
“Alright, that’s all for the interview. Thank you for your cooperation—good night and sweet dreams!”
After Li Jiayan, the next person recording their bedtime interview was Xu Junze.
The opening pleasantries were much the same.
Staff: “After hearing your ex introduce you in tonight’s recording, what made you cry?”
Xu Junze: “At that moment… Hearing what she said brought back beautiful memories, and I really regretted breaking up with her. But from her tone, it sounded like we’re strangers from now on. Just thinking about that made me sad.”
Staff: “Did you or she initiate the breakup?”
Xu Junze: “She did.”
The staff smiled, “So if she insisted on breaking up, there’s not much you can do about your regret, is there?”
Xu Junze gave a helpless smile, “That’s true.”
Staff: “Do you still plan to win her back?”
Xu Junze nodded without hesitation, “If there’s a chance for our relationship to heal, I’d definitely try to win her back.”
Staff: “After your first day here, meeting female guests different from your ex, do you have any new thoughts?”
Xu Junze shook his head, “Not at the moment.”
Staff: “Did you receive any goodnight messages from the female guests today?”
Xu Junze: “No.”
Staff: “Did that make you feel disappointed?”
Xu Junze smiled, “Not really. I’m just curious who she sent her message to.”
Staff: “Do you have any guesses?”
Xu Junze: “No.”
Staff: “And to whom did you send your goodnight message?”
Xu Junze: “Chu Yao.”
-----------------
The next guest to be interviewed was Qi Jiajia.
Unlike the previous guests, Qi Jiajia’s face practically spelled out “I’m in a bad mood.” Her eyes were red, as if she’d just been crying.
“Jiajia, it’s the first day of filming. Are you okay?” The staff asked with concern.
“I’m alright,” Qi Jiajia mumbled, but her demeanor suggested otherwise.
“If you have any difficulties, you can always talk to your PD. Relationship issues are fair game, too.”
“Thank you, I know.”
“Shall we start recording?”
“Okay.”
Qi Jiajia’s bedtime interview began—
Staff: “How did you feel listening to your ex introduce you in tonight’s recording?”
At the question, Qi Jiajia’s expression darkened. “I was speechless. I really didn’t expect that’s how he saw me. Breaking up was definitely the right call!”
Her tone carried a trace of anger.
“He said I lack a sense of security. When I heard that, I almost laughed. Did he ever wonder why I felt insecure?”
The staff was delighted and pressed further, “Why did you feel insecure?”
Qi Jiajia took a deep breath, realizing her emotions were running high. After a long pause, she said, “Forget it, it’s all in the past. I don’t want to bring it up.”
Seeing she didn’t want to go deeper, the staff moved on. “Is there any male guest at Heartbeat House you felt particularly good about today?”
Qi Jiajia’s face brightened, and after a moment’s thought, she said, “Yes.”
Staff: “Who? Can you tell us?”
Qi Jiajia hesitated, then said, “I’d rather keep it to myself for now—it’s only the first day. I’ll wait and see.”
Staff: “Did any male guest send you a goodnight message today?”
Qi Jiajia: “No.”
Staff: “Are you disappointed?”
Qi Jiajia: “Not really. It’s just the first day; we don’t know each other yet. It doesn’t mean much.”
Staff: “To whom did you send your goodnight message?”
Qi Jiajia: “I sent it to Zhang Chen.”
-----------------
After Qi Jiajia’s interview, Zhang Chen was called into the room.
The first thing he did was glance at his watch. “Are these interviews going to run this late every night? It really cuts into our rest.”
The staff apologized repeatedly, “It’s just the first day, so we’re running late. We’ll be more flexible with the schedule from now on.”
Zhang Chen waved it off, “Alright, let’s get started.”
The recording began—
Staff: “After hearing your ex introduce you in tonight’s recording, how did you feel?”
Just recalling that embarrassing moment made Zhang Chen uncomfortable all over.
“It didn’t feel great at the time—I was a bit angry, a bit hurt. But looking back now, it doesn’t matter anymore. She was just being honest.”
Staff: “How many goodnight messages did you receive today?”
Zhang Chen: “Two.”
Staff: “Who do you think sent them?”
Zhang Chen: “The one about going for a drive was definitely from Jiayan. The other one, I’m not sure.”
Staff: “What do you think of Li Jiayan?”
Zhang Chen: “Jiayan was probably the most surprising girl today.”
Staff: “Did you expect to be this popular on the first day? Why do you think that is?”
Zhang Chen laughed outright, “Why else? Personal charm! I’ve always been popular with girls.”
The staff paused, then continued, “To whom did you send your goodnight message tonight?”
Zhang Chen: “Ye Fangfei.”
“Alright, that’s the end of our interview. You can go rest now.”
“That’s all?” Zhang Chen raised an eyebrow.
“If you’d like to chat more, we’re happy to oblige,” the staff replied with a grin.
“I’ll pass.” Zhang Chen waved and left the interview room.
