Chapter Forty-Seven: When Heroines Match Heroes—How Impressive!
Everyone was in a state of panic. Though this wasn't the first time they'd slaughtered a pig for the New Year, most of the young men in Zhoujia Village were out working elsewhere, and those who remained were all getting on in years. Naturally, they couldn't match the vigor and strength of young lads. They were also worried that their aging limbs might get injured in such a chaotic tussle. So, instinctively, they began to retreat.
This, of course, spelled trouble. With no one stepping up to block Second Brother Pig right away, it began rampaging wildly in all directions, using an unprecedented ferocity to intimidate the humans intent on killing it. After sizing up a direction, it charged forward.
A few seconds later, several people finally snapped out of their instinctive reactions, and someone shouted in alarm, "Stop it, don't let it escape!"
"If it runs into the mountains, it'll be hard to find."
"Damn it, how did we let it break free?"
"Hold it, stop it!"
But now, all this shouting only served to further agitate Second Brother Pig, making it even more aggressive. In the end, the villagers gripping the ropes could only watch as it bolted toward an open area. They could hinder it a little, but their efforts were limited.
Meanwhile, those on Bai Ling's side were flustered. They had just come down from the mountain, and the spot they stood in happened to be the small path leading up—precisely the open space Second Brother Pig had targeted. The pressure immediately shifted onto Zhuge Ming, Bai Ling, and a few staff members.
The staff were dumbfounded; they were still carrying cameras and various props. There were only three of them. Together with Zhuge Ming and Bai Ling, there were five people—could they really stop a pig? Especially since they had to keep Bai Ling and Zhuge Ming out of harm's way. Not only were the two artists valuable, but if either were hurt, it would spell disaster for the show. Even setting that aside, Zhuge Ming and Bai Ling wouldn't be much help in stopping the pig.
Inside the livestream, though the crisis unfolded quickly and viewers barely had time to type comments, everyone was undoubtedly tense. The key concern was Bai Ling! She was a girl—what if she got hurt?
But just as everyone began worrying for Bai Ling, they suddenly saw her sprinting to the side.
Relief washed over everyone. Thankfully, Bai Ling wasn't foolish—she knew to run away. Otherwise, things could have gone very badly.
But just as they thought this, Bai Ling unexpectedly picked up a stick from the ground. Yes, she grabbed a stick. And as the pig charged toward her, Bai Ling showed no fear. Holding the stick, for a fleeting moment, everyone was reminded of Bai Ling's sword dance on stage.
In a flash, the stick swung rapidly and landed directly on Second Brother Pig's foreleg. If she'd struck its back, it might have only elicited some squealing, and the pig's momentum wouldn't have slowed—in fact, it might have made it even more frenzied. But Bai Ling's blow landed squarely on its leg. That made all the difference.
Her strength wasn't immense, but the stick was solid and heavy. The force of the strike was enough to stagger even a several-hundred-pound pig. Moreover, after the first hit, Bai Ling twisted her body nimbly and struck again, this time on its hind leg.
With two blows, Second Brother Pig let out a pained howl and collapsed to the ground, wailing. Though it wasn't completely incapacitated, it gave the villagers a chance to react.
"What are you all standing around for?"
"Come help!"
At that moment, Bai Ling felt both her arms aching terribly, an indescribable discomfort. When she moved, she forgot she was a girl, forgot that while she had stamina, it didn't mean she had boundless strength. Those two swings had drained most of her energy, and Second Brother Pig was truly tough. The stick rebounded so hard it made her palms throb with pain. That was why she started calling for help. Otherwise, her next swing might have landed on the pig's head.
Hearing Bai Ling's voice, the villagers finally snapped out of it. One after another, they rushed forward, grabbed the ropes, and pinned the pig down. With a dozen people piling on, they quickly subdued the now-crippled Second Brother Pig.
"Damn, what did I just witness?"
"That was nerve-wracking!"
"We almost had a major accident on the show."
"More than just an accident—someone could have ended up in the hospital."
"What's wrong with Ouyang Ruofeng? Couldn't even help? Nearly caused a disaster!"
"My god, Bai Ling is just too cool."
"Everyone else froze, but only she acted with such bravery—swinging that stick!"
"I almost felt like Bai Ling was wielding a sword instead of a stick."
"Bro, you thought so too? Same here—those moves were so sharp, so decisive!"
"People used to say Bai Ling's sword dance was all for show, nothing special, that any dance student could replicate it with some practice. Clearly, that was shallow thinking."
"Wow, this is truly a case of a woman outshining the men. Bai Ling actually has real skills?"
"Forget her being a girl—ninety-nine percent of the guys here couldn’t match her."
"With so many people present, it still had to be Bai Ling who stepped up."
"Damn, Starshine’s President Wang owes Bai Ling a debt of gratitude for sparing his life!"
"Haha, Wang Tianhai from Starshine, right? He’s just like this pig!"
"Is this Bai Ling’s way of getting revenge from afar?"
"Whenever Bai Ling does something impressive, Wang Tianhai always gets dragged out for another round of mockery."
"Sister is so bold—can I be your girlfriend?"
"Can she accept a whole group of girlfriends?"
"Can Bai Ling accept me as her boyfriend?"
"Get lost, you’re not worthy!"
The livestream erupted in a frenzy. Bai Ling’s actions, though not in line with the usual ‘humor’ or ‘features’ of variety shows, created an astonishing response.
Who could have imagined such a scenario? Who could have guessed Bai Ling would be the one to step in and solve the problem? Who could have foreseen her solution would be so dazzling?
In the livestream, whether male or female, everyone felt Bai Ling was at her absolute coolest at this moment. Perhaps calling her a heroine among men was a bit exaggerated, but without question, her popularity soared dramatically. The broadcast’s heat skyrocketed to terrifying levels. Though viewer numbers didn’t rise much, the topic buzz, discussion, and comment barrage absolutely crushed all other streams. Even Lin Yubai’s fan influence paled in comparison.
