Qin’s father looked at Qin Wanyi with a meaningful gaze, his face steady but full of disbelief. Gritting his teeth, he stated firmly, “I just saw everything!”

Qin Wanyi averted her eyes slightly, feeling a bit guilty. “Just playing around,” she replied softly, her voice barely audible.

Qin’s father was stunned for a moment, his face flushing visibly. “Nonsense!”

He cast a disdainful glance at Pei Yinian, who was standing not far away, then shifted closer to Qin Wanyi’s ear and warned through clenched teeth, “Playing is one thing, but don’t take it seriously!”

“Thankfully, I caught it today. If... if this got out, where would I put my face?” He slapped his cheek in frustration.

Qin Wanyi awkwardly curled up on the sofa, holding her forehead with one hand, mumbling vaguely, “Got it.”

She hadn’t expected to be caught red-handed.

Drinking had caused trouble.

Qin’s father sighed deeply, then turned to glare at the man with a fierce look. Waving his hand, he commanded, “You, come with me.”

Pei Yinian remained expressionless throughout, still hearing Qin Wanyi’s earlier words echoing in his mind, feeling somewhat displeased.

He followed Qin’s father to the study with measured steps.

Qin’s father sat down at the desk, his gaze dripping with disdain as it locked onto Pei Yinian, as though willing to bore a hole right through him.

Pei Yinian strolled in casually, indifferent to Qin’s father’s stares, instead casually surveying the study’s furnishings.

He slapped the desk with one hand and pointed at Pei Yinian, warning, “You’d better stay away from my daughter. You’re not worthy of her.”

The man withdrew his gaze, then fixed it on Qin’s father.

The look in his eyes was scornful, making one’s scalp tingle. He tilted his head back slightly and sneered coldly, pulling out a chair and sitting down smoothly, facing Qin’s father directly.

Not a trace of fear.

Qin’s father stared at this behavior in disbelief. “What are you doing?”

“How do you know I’m not worthy, Mr. Qin?” Pei Yinian asked lazily, sitting up straight with one hand on the table, leaning in slightly, his tone tinged with mockery.

Qin’s father’s mouth twitched in anger, then unexpectedly laughed bitterly. “Why not worthy? Ha! Look at who you are!”

His rough fingers jabbed the desk with force, his voice growing louder.

“No matter what, I’m your employer. Is this how you talk to your boss?”

More than just his words, Pei Yinian’s earlier behavior was lawless in Qin’s father’s eyes.

How had he not noticed this kid’s blatant disrespect before?

“Is my attitude the problem?” Pei Yinian shrugged, reclining against the chair calmly, his sharp gaze fixed on Qin’s father.

His tone and manner made it seem as if Pei Yinian himself were the boss.

“Get up! Don’t think just because my daughter treats you well, you can act like you own the place! Make no mistake, you’re just a bodyguard I pay for!”

Qin’s father’s face reddened as he pointed his finger in reprimand.

No matter how much he scolded, Pei Yinian remained unmoved.

“Don’t think that because my daughter’s protecting you, I can’t do anything to you! If I can arrange for you to be a bodyguard here, I can also make sure you leave forever.”

“And you better think things through!” He jabbed the table sharply with his fingertip, as if issuing a deliberate warning.

Qin’s father had laid it all out, thinking this kid ought to react somewhat.

Pei Yinian lounged lazily in his chair, and when Qin’s father finished speaking, he gently lifted his chin and met his gaze. “Finished?”

His tone was flat, as if none of this concerned him.

Qin’s father was stunned. Having been in the business world a long time and seen all kinds of people, he had never met anyone so impervious to pressure.

He realized he had to find a way to separate this kid from Qin Wanyi.

Otherwise, he feared he wouldn’t be able to deal with him at all.

Pei Yinian smiled faintly and casually reached into his pocket.

This action infuriated Qin’s father.

“Are you even listening to me? Believe it or not, I’ll—”

Before he could finish, his words caught in his throat as he met the man’s sharp eyes, fully prepared.

Pei Yinian raised a slender finger to his lips in a shushing gesture.

He slowly pushed his phone forward toward Qin’s father, then gestured for him to look at it.

“What’s this?” Qin’s father asked, confused.

The man sat back, arms crossed, lifting his chin slightly to signal Qin’s father to check the phone first.

Frowning deeply, Qin’s father recalled how earlier, no matter what threat he made, Pei Yinian had been unfazed. A bad feeling stirred in his heart.

Could it be that this kid held some leverage and was trying to seize the opportunity...?

No! No matter what, this troublemaker must be gotten rid of.

Qin’s father swallowed hard and glanced at the man before reaching out to take the phone.

What he saw on the screen was not what he had imagined.

It was a project.

“Th-this...” Moments ago he had doubts, but now he was stunned.

He stared over and over again to make sure he wasn’t mistaken, then looked up at Pei Yinian.

He was certain the phone displayed the very project he had been obsessively trying to obtain.

Rumor had it that many in the business world were coveting this project.

Qin’s father had done extensive research.

Pei Yinian was just a lowly bodyguard. How could he know about this project?

He rubbed his eyes and looked again, confirming it was indeed the project he wanted, and to his surprise, the name of the person in charge was Pei Yinian.

He silently repeated the name, feeling it was oddly familiar. His gaze fell on the man, and suddenly he realized.

The bodyguard was also named Pei Yinian?

Eagerly, Qin’s father shifted forward. “Who exactly are you?”

A wave of panic surged within him.

Pei Yinian straightened up, hands crossed on the table, slowly raising his head with the commanding aura of a powerful man.

“You don’t need to know who I am. But Qin Wanyi, I’m taking her.”

Qin’s father’s heart skipped a beat.

“Don’t be afraid. I won’t harm you Qin family. On the contrary, having me connected to you is a blessing.”

“Not only can I help you climb higher, but I can also help the Qin family firmly enter the top tier of families in the capital.”

Qin’s father felt his eyelid twitch violently, watching the man speak with growing confidence, sensing something was terribly wrong.

He lowered his eyes, silently repeating the man’s name, then his pupils suddenly dilated with shock as he stood up abruptly.

“You... you’re from the Pei family of the capital?”
