Chapter 14: Not a Chance for Reconciliation
After several rounds of drinking, the two people in the private room were already dead drunk.
Pei Yinian glanced at the time and finally stepped inside.
Qin Wanyi’s fair cheeks were slightly flushed from the alcohol, her curly hair tousled and falling freely.
She lay elegantly on the sofa. Leaning in, he caught the faint scent of perfume mingled with a trace of alcohol at the tip of his nose.
That scent was all the more intoxicating.
“Miss, it’s getting late. We should head home,” Pei Yinian said in a hoarse voice.
Her curled lashes fluttered lightly. Qin Wanyi waved her hand, “So noisy.”
She lazily lifted her hand, brushing it across the man’s cheek—not harshly—and as her hand passed, a subtle fragrance lingered.
“Miss, we really should go home now,” Pei Yinian repeated.
The drunken Qin Wanyi lazily opened her eyes; his handsome face appeared before her. She flailed her hand and lightly tapped his cheek.
“Why do you look so much like…” Qin Wanyi’s voice trailed off as her fingers pinched his face.
“Miss, who do I look like?” he asked.
Before he could finish, Qin Wanyi hooked her hand around his neck, their eyes meeting.
Her slightly glazed, moist eyes held a dreamy allure in her intoxicated state. Pei Yinian found himself unable to resist, his Adam’s apple rolling involuntarily.
He clearly felt his heart racing and his breath growing uneven. “Miss, may I… kiss you?”
He didn’t know why he said it. He knew it was courting trouble, yet the words slipped out unconsciously.
Upon hearing this, Qin Wanyi suddenly clasped his neck, her soft body pressing against his.
Unable to resist the temptation, Pei Yinian kissed her eagerly as their bodies entwined.
Back at the villa,
Qin Wanyi stumbled and finally leaned against the wall. Pei Yinian was pulled along; his hands braced on the wall.
Their gazes locked.
She gently lifted his chin. “Do you like me?”
Pei Yinian lowered his eyes. He knew Qin Wanyi was drunk and that she would forget every move once she sobered up tomorrow.
He was already content with the kiss just now.
He dared not reveal his true feelings, fearing it would scare her.
“Smack!”
Qin Wanyi slapped him hard, leaving a red imprint on his handsome cheek.
“I'm asking you! You usually seem so brave—why do you lose your nerve now?” she said, chin slightly raised, eyes filled with mockery.
The man grasped her hand and pressed it to his cheek. “I like it. I like everything the Miss has granted me.”
“Miss, does your hand hurt? Do you want me to rub it?”
Seeing the man so gentle stirred an inexplicable flutter in her heart.
“You really are a well-behaved dog,” she said stubbornly, turning her head away.
But his warm palm cupped her cheek. “I like everything about you, Miss. I’m your dog, a dog that listens only to you.”
Tears welled in Qin Wanyi’s eyes. She had never met such a man before. Listening to his incessant declarations of love, she could no longer hold back. She rose on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him.
Pei Yinian held her tightly, their passionate kisses growing fervent.
Their breaths mingled.
Until suddenly, the dark villa was flooded with light.
“Oh my God! What are you two doing?” Qin Wanyi’s father stormed in, turning on the lights to find them locked in a lingering kiss.
His eyes reddened with anger. “Qin Wanyi! What are you doing?”
His deep voice echoed through the empty villa. The kiss startled Qin Wanyi awake.
She nonchalantly pushed Pei Yinian away and hastily wiped her mouth. “Dad, what are you doing here?”
Qin Wanyi was flustered and annoyed. She regretted drinking and nearly losing control—and now her father had caught her.
Qin’s father glared at Pei Yinian with disdain and walked straight up to Qin Wanyi, demanding, “What’s going on between you and Jiang Yi?”
Hearing Jiang Yi’s name, Qin Wanyi sighed impatiently and sat down on the sofa.
She didn’t want to talk about it.
“Today Jiang Yi came to the Qin residence, got drunk, and made a scene, crying and shouting that you two are divorced. It was a huge fuss.”
“This nearly ruined my reputation!” Qin’s father scolded angrily. They really had no idea about the divorce.
At first, he thought Jiang Yi was just drunk and babbling nonsense.
But seeing how distraught Jiang Yi looked, it didn’t seem like an act. So that night, he came over.
After calming down, Qin Wanyi took the initiative to link her arm with her father’s.
“Dad, please listen to me,” she began.
Before she could finish, her father, still angry, shook her off.
Grabbing her arm and pointing at her nose, he scolded, “Don’t joke with me! Stand up straight!”
His face darkened. He glanced at the man, then came closer to Qin Wanyi, whispering, “Be honest with me. What’s the truth about this divorce?”
“Don’t tell me you’ve really taken a liking to this bodyguard?” Qin’s father said with scorn when Pei Yinian was mentioned.
It was clear he truly disapproved.
“Are you giving up on Jiang Yi?” he asked grudgingly.
After all, it had taken great effort to arrange the marriage. They say a father knows his daughter best; he didn’t believe she would change her heart so easily.
Qin Wanyi didn’t want to hide the truth—after all, the divorce was a fact. “Jiang Yi and I are already divorced.”
As for Pei Yinian, she said nothing.
Calm now, Qin Wanyi understood better than anyone: it was fine to like someone, but certainly not the bodyguard.
She had only been momentarily confused earlier.
Hearing this, Qin’s father grew anxious. “Daughter, don’t be foolish! The Qin family still has business with the Jiang family. If you cause trouble, how will we cooperate with them in the future?”
He feared that without cooperation, the consequences would be severe—that was his greatest worry.
Qin Wanyi said nothing. Her father pulled her to sit down and tried to persuade her gently.
“There’s no such thing as a grudge lasting overnight between husband and wife. They say couples quarrel at the bedside but make up before dawn. Don’t be so petty.”
“If everyone was like that, who would get married?”
“Be sensible. Pick a good day and reconcile with Jiang Yi,” he urged, trying to suppress his impatience as he patted her arm.
Qin Wanyi took a deep breath and calmly refused, “Reconciliation is impossible.”
“You—” her father stood up in anger. “Are you trying to drive me crazy?”
He raised his hand to discipline her but hesitated midway. He only intended to scare her, never imagining she was so resolute.
He thumped his chest in frustration. “Ah, this life is unbearable.”
“And who knows how much money we’d lose if the Qin and Jiang projects fall through?”
