Chapter 11: Lingering Old Affections
The room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Song Yanzi looked at the man on the sofa. “What are you doing here?”
Shen Yichi’s sudden appearance startled her.
He shouldn’t be—and couldn’t be—here.
The man sat casually, his jacket placed beside him, his white shirt unbuttoned at the top two buttons.
The bright light illuminated him, making his handsome face even more striking.
Shen Yichi put away his phone and looked up. “Didn’t you invite me to dinner?”
Song Yanzi put down her bag and walked over. “How did you get in?”
This was a high-end residential area with strict access control, and even her family didn’t know the password to her door lock.
Yet the man before her had walked in so effortlessly.
Facing her question, Shen Yichi answered openly, “I entered the password.”
Anticipating she would ask more, he added directly, “Song Yanzi, are you still hung up on me? You’ve been using my birthday as the password all these years.”
Song Yanzi froze a few meters away.
“Just too lazy to change it,” she replied.
Seeing the boxed gift on the coffee table, Song Yanzi realized this was her chance to move back a step.
“You went out of your way to pack the things I like to eat. Could it be you still have feelings for me?”
The man on the sofa propped his chin with one hand. “They packed themselves up and insisted on following me here. I couldn’t refuse such hospitality, so I reluctantly brought them along.”
He was seriously spouting nonsense. Song Yanzi wanted to laugh but held it back.
“I didn’t expect President Shen to be so helpful.”
She walked over and headed straight to the kitchen with the items.
As she turned, a faint smile involuntarily curved at the corner of her lips.
Shen Yichi watched that slender, graceful figure and chuckled softly.
Song Yanzi put the items in the fridge and grabbed two bottles of water.
When she came out, she regained her composure.
Standing before him, she handed him a bottle and said, “Today is your girlfriend’s special day. If you’re not going to be with her, what are you doing here with me?”
His arrival meant she wouldn’t have a moment’s peace.
After speaking, she sat down beside him and twisted open her bottle to take a sip.
Shen Yichi took the water but didn’t open it, instead placing it on the coffee table.
He teased, “You’re so concerned about my personal life. Looks like you really haven’t gotten over me.”
He stared at her without blinking.
Song Yanzi held her bottle, a slight smile touching her lips. “News about you two has already spread online and even made the entertainment headlines. It’s impossible not to see it.”
Photos of him and Sheng Zhiyi were circulating online.
The couple was a perfect match—both talented and beautiful.
The comment sections were full of praise and blessings.
Shen Yichi said nothing, took the water from her hand, and tilted his head back to drink.
The man raised the bottle gracefully; his Adam’s apple moved elegantly, handsome and refined.
Song Yanzi frowned. He had already been given water, yet he still took hers.
He took several gulps, then placed the bottle on the table and glanced sideways.
Noticing the slight dissatisfaction in her brow, he teased, “You’ve already given me a kiss, and now you won’t even let me have some water? President Song, don’t be so stingy.”
His tone was calm, a smile blooming on his refined face.
Shen Yichi’s smile was devastatingly attractive.
She wondered what was wrong with him—had something happy happened? It was clear he was in a good mood.
She guessed it was because his future wife’s performance was very successful.
Song Yanzi then asked, “What exactly do you want?”
Tired of wasting words, she went straight to the point.
Shen Yichi leaned back on the sofa, legs spread wide as if it were his right. “You promised to treat me to dinner.”
Song Yanzi responded coldly, “That offer’s no longer valid.”
Besides, most restaurants would be closed by now.
Shen Yichi said, “Is that your sincerity?”
Song Yanzi answered, “I’ll treat you another day. It’s too late today.”
He didn’t eat takeout and was very picky about food.
Shen Yichi snorted lightly. “Hmm.”
Seeing he had no intention of leaving, Song Yanzi took the initiative. “It’s late; you should go back early.”
A clear hint to send him off.
She was about to get up and take a shower when the man grabbed her, then in the next moment, held her in his arms.
Shen Yichi teased, “Is this your way of treating guests? So rude.”
As soon as he finished, a flurry of urgent, passionate kisses rained down.
At first, she resisted, but soon gave in.
He wouldn’t just show up out of nowhere and leave without doing anything.
His hand slipped under her clothes, skillfully unfastening her bra.
As he kissed her neck, Song Yanzi’s breath hitched. “Have you…?”
Suddenly, the ringing of a phone interrupted the words just at her lips.
It was Shen Yichi’s phone.
He stopped kissing her, holding her with one hand while casually answering the call.
Song Yanzi lay in his arms, calming her breath as her chest rose and fell rapidly.
The person on the other end was reporting work; Shen Yichi listened quietly.
After a moment, he ordered, “Take down the trending topic. Find out which media outlet posted it without authorization and hold them accountable.”
Hearing this, Song Yanzi looked up at him.
He didn’t want it to be public.
After hanging up, he leaned down to continue, but Song Yanzi reached out and cupped his face.
Shen Yichi spoke softly, “What were you about to say just now?”
