034. A Chance Encounter with Zhang Wan
Having treated Lin Jiabao for so many days, she had learned quite a bit about Lin Shan’s family situation. Chen Yuanying, who was quite talkative, had told her about this matter just a few days ago.
Liu Ying herself had not realized that she now had a strong desire to understand Lin Shan, the more the better.
Lin Shan picked up a piece of pork belly, dipped it in some barbecue sauce, and popped it into his mouth. After swallowing, he generously nodded and admitted, "It’s true. Although, to be precise, we are currently in the cooling-off period, but the divorce is definitely happening."
A look of curiosity immediately appeared in Liu Ying’s eyes. She wanted to know about Lin Shan’s marriage and why they were divorcing, but given that it was someone else’s private business, it didn’t seem appropriate to pry...
Lin Shan sensed what Liu Ying was thinking and smiled, "Want to hear the story?"
Liu Ying gave a slight smile and filled Lin Shan’s glass with cola. "We don't have any wine, so you'll have to settle for some cola. Go ahead, tell me."
Lin Shan leaned back in his chair.
"It’s actually not that complicated. You’ve probably heard plenty of stories like this..."
Lin Shan then briefly recounted the situation between himself and Zhang Wan.
When Liu Ying heard that the child Lin Shan and Zhang Wan had was not even his biological child, she felt a surge of righteous indignation. "That is just too much!"
However, as soon as she said it, she felt a strange sense of joy in her heart, though she didn’t understand why herself. Afraid that Lin Shan might notice her reaction, she specifically lowered her head.
Lin Shan, however, said with great nonchalance, "Life is long; it's inevitable to make mistakes in who you trust. It’s fine, I’ve moved past it. I just want to live my life well now."
Liu Ying nodded in deep agreement. "That’s right, you’re in a very good state of mind right now."
As they chatted and finished their meal, Lin Shan paid the bill and they walked out of the restaurant together. Liu Ying asked, "Lin Shan, what is your budget, roughly?"
"Budget, huh..."
He had money in his pocket now; perhaps he could buy something more expensive to give Lin Wei a surprise. He felt he had let the little girl down over these past few years.
So Lin Shan replied, "Hmm... don't worry too much about the budget. It really depends on what you girls like."
Liu Ying teased, "Whoa, a real big spender, aren't we?"
As she said this, she felt a twinge of envy toward Lin Wei. Even though she knew that if she just asked, countless men would rush to give her gifts, the person giving the gift was what mattered most.
"Since you put it that way, why don't we go look at handbags? Girls certainly can't say no to bags."
"Sure," Lin Shan said.
The complex they were in was large and housed several luxury stores, such as Prada and Hermès.
Liu Ying strolled along until she suddenly stopped in front of the Hermès boutique, her eyes fixed on a black shoulder bag.
Lin Shan immediately said, "Let’s go in and take a look."
Liu Ying blushed, and they walked into the store.
"Sir, Miss, how can I help you?"
A sales associate immediately approached with a professional smile. Although Lin Shan was dressed plainly and wore no expensive accessories, the woman beside him was stunningly beautiful.
Being out shopping with such a beautiful woman meant he surely had some tricks up his sleeve, so she was very enthusiastic.
Once they were closer, Liu Ying saw the price of the bag—a staggering 60,000. The price left her speechless, and for a moment, she didn't know if she should speak.
Fortunately, Lin Shan broke the awkwardness for her, saying to the sales associate, "Please take that bag down for us to see."
"Of course!"
The associate agreed, took the bag down, and handed it to Liu Ying. Liu Ying clearly liked it, as she gently stroked it.
Just then, Sheng Teng and Zhang Wan, who had also just finished eating, happened to wander by.
"That bastard Lin Shan hides things so well. I thought I knew everything about him, but I never expected he was hiding so much gold!" Zhang Wan was still furious.
After hearing Zhang Wan recount what happened, Sheng Teng sneered, "I think you’re overthinking it. If Lin Shan had that much gold, would he have waited until now to show it? His father is lying in the hospital waiting for life-saving treatment. I think that gold probably belongs to his friend, and he’s just trying to get under your skin."
Zhang Wan scoffed twice, though deep down she knew the gold was Lin Shan's; Sheng Teng’s explanation was just self-deception.
Looking at the luxury stores around them, Zhang Wan suddenly grabbed Sheng Teng’s arm and pouted, "Darling, didn't you say you were going to buy me a bag?"
Sheng Teng frowned; he had noticed that Zhang Wan had become increasingly greedy lately.
*I need to find a chance to kick her to the curb, but she’s always around Bingbing, so I can't act rashly...*
Sheng Teng adjusted his glasses and said in a deep voice, "Xiao Wan, business has been growing too fast lately and we’re short on cash. I’ve invested everything into the business. But don't worry, once things calm down, I’ll definitely get you a gift."
Making empty promises was his usual tactic.
"Alright..." Zhang Wan nodded, feeling a bit disappointed. Just then, her gaze inadvertently swept across the Hermès store.
She rubbed her eyes in disbelief and looked again. She was sure she hadn't seen wrong.
It was Lin Shan!
And there was a great beauty right beside him.
Zhang Wan tugged at Sheng Teng. "Sheng Teng, look, is that Lin Shan?"
Sheng Teng frowned and looked over, seeing Lin Shan and Liu Ying chatting and laughing.
"Hmm... it really is... wait?"
The last exclamation was one of admiration for Liu Ying’s beauty.
Today, Liu Ying had changed her usual style and was dressed much more boldly. Although her top was modest, she had swapped her usual attire for a pleated skirt that ended just above the knees, revealing her long, slender, fair legs.
"Damn... Lin Shan is actually with such a beauty..."
Sheng Teng’s eyes darted around, and he said to Zhang Wan, "Xiao Wan, let’s go check it out."
His true intention was to use this opportunity to hit on Liu Ying and snatch such a beauty away from Lin Shan.
*Lin Shan, a beauty of this caliber isn't something a loser like you can touch. Heh, I stole your wife, this one won't be able to escape either.*
The two walked into the Hermès store. Zhang Wan shouted, "Lin Shan!"
People shopping there generally had some level of decorum, so such a loud voice was quite abrupt. Lin Shan turned around and was somewhat surprised to see Zhang Wan and Sheng Teng.
"Why are you here? And who is she?!"
Zhang Wan glared at Lin Shan and pointed at Liu Ying.
The sales associate caught the scene and felt a spark of interest.
The situation looked exactly like a primary partner catching a mistress, but why was there another man next to the "primary partner"? The relationships here were far too messy.
Liu Ying was a bit confused at first, but when she saw the man next to Zhang Wan smiling at her, she immediately understood.
*Could this person be Lin Shan’s ex-wife?*
Lin Shan said coldly, "Zhang Wan, is this store yours? Do I need your permission to be here?"
