Chapter 33: Secured

Hearing this, Qin Ruowei realized that she had said the wrong thing and hurriedly denied it.
“No, no, that’s not it. I didn’t. I didn’t send anyone to monitor you. I didn’t even know…”
The more Qin Ruowei tried to explain, the worse it sounded. In her panic, she began speaking without thinking.
Lin Bai drew a deep breath. “Let’s leave it at that, Ruowei. We’ll talk about the rest when we meet. Get some rest.”
With that, Lin Bai hung up.
Staring at the disconnected call, Qin Ruowei’s heart began to flutter uneasily again.
After a brief pause, she opened the door and rushed into the tea room.
“Who gave you permission to do this!? This is my own business. Can’t you stop interfering!?”
Qin Ruowei was furious, her tone nearly pleading.
Qin Yulong frowned. “Your father and I are only doing this for your sake. You’re too young. You can’t see through people’s hearts.”
“If I can’t judge people properly, that’s my business. Then let me suffer the consequences, all right? Please, stop meddling in my affairs!”
“If you keep monitoring and following Lin Bai, I—I’ll never see either of you again!”
With that, Qin Ruowei turned and left. The door to the tea room slammed shut behind her.
Qin Yang and Qin Yulong exchanged a glance, both frowning.
“Well?” Qin Yang asked. “What do you think after spending all this time around him?”
Qin Yulong gathered his thoughts before replying, “He’s a pretty decent young man. Calm and composed, and his physical condition seems good too.”
Qin Yang looked at him with some surprise. “Oh? Even you think he’s in good shape? That boy is no ordinary person.”
Bang!
The sound of the door closing interrupted their conversation. There was no need to guess—Qin Ruowei had left.
Qin Yang sighed. “All right, then. Find a time to invite that boy over. I’d like to meet him.”
“Understood.”
…
At the dormitory, Lin Bai was preparing to sleep. He was already lying in bed when a message from Qin Ruowei arrived.
“I’ll be there in half an hour. We’ll talk in person.”
After reading the message, Lin Bai glanced at the time. It was already a little past nine fifty in the evening. The dormitory gates were about to close, and Qin Ruowei would not be able to get in.
He began composing a message telling her not to come, but halfway through, he realized there was no way he could persuade the girl.
With no other choice, Lin Bai got out of bed, dressed, and hurried out of the dormitory. He drove out through the university gate and waited for her there.
Half an hour later, outside the east gate of Jiangcheng University, a purple Xiaomi SU7 pulled to a stop. Qin Ruowei stepped out wearing pajamas with a coat thrown over them and ran toward Lin Bai.
She plunged straight into his arms.
“Waaah… I’m sorry…”
Leaning against the car, Lin Bai gently stroked Qin Ruowei’s back, feeling the turmoil of her emotions.

“I didn’t mean to. It was my brother and my father. I only found out just now. I’m sorry, Lin Bai… Waaah…”
As expected, Lin Bai thought.
After his initial suspicion, Lin Bai had gradually calmed down and considered the matter carefully. In the end, he had concluded that Qin Ruowei would never send anyone to monitor him.
Considering her father’s identity, the most likely person behind it was her father.
Qin Ruowei’s words now confirmed his guess.
Lin Bai said nothing. He lifted Qin Ruowei’s chin and kissed her.
Her tears and grievances were swallowed away by him, every last trace of them…
Several minutes later, they parted.
Qin Ruowei had calmed down considerably. She nestled in Lin Bai’s arms like a gentle little kitten.
“Let’s go to a hotel,” Lin Bai said, breaking the silence.
Qin Ruowei abruptly raised her head, her pretty face flushing red.
“What? Now? Right now?”
Lin Bai showed her the screen of his phone.
“It’s almost eleven. The dormitory gates are already closed.”
Qin Ruowei lowered her head involuntarily and nestled against his chest again. After a moment, she nodded, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.
“Mm.”
She had left her car parked by the roadside near the university gate.
Lin Bai drove Qin Ruowei to the commercial street beside the university, where he booked the best hotel there—a couples’ room with a large round bed.
Qin Ruowei, dressed in pajamas with a coat draped over them, possessed a unique kind of beauty. Even the young woman at the front desk stared at her in a daze.
After completing the formalities, Lin Bai took Qin Ruowei by the hand and led her to the room.
He opened the door, inserted the key card into the slot, and the lights came on.
The pink lighting gave the room an intensely suggestive atmosphere. Combined with the large round bed hung with curtains and the various suggestive paintings and patterns, it made Qin Ruowei’s face flush crimson at once.
Lin Bai closed the door and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. His warm breath brushed against her ear, leaving Qin Ruowei weak all over.
“Lin Bai…”
His domineering kiss drowned out everything else. Qin Ruowei’s delicate body trembled, and her hands instinctively tightened around the back of his hand.
Because she had left in such a hurry, Qin Ruowei was wearing only pajamas and a coat, with nothing underneath.
That certainly made things convenient for Lin Bai.
His palms began to wander, brushing over Qin Ruowei’s smooth, flat stomach and moving upward until they reached her chest.
Qin Ruowei let out a soft moan, her grip on the back of his hand unconsciously tightening.
Only then did she realize that she could not summon any strength at all. Her body felt boneless.
Strange sensations coursed through her nerves, leaving her mind completely blank.
The two of them fell onto the large bed together, their heavy breathing rising and falling in waves. (Ten thousand words omitted here.)

…
The next day.
Sunday, a day of rest.
It was a little past ten in the morning when Lin Bai woke up. Turning his head, he saw Qin Ruowei curled up in his arms, sleeping soundly like an obedient little kitten.
Remembering that they had carried on until four or five in the morning, Lin Bai shook his head with a wry smile. Looking at Qin Ruowei’s sleeping face, he felt an added touch of tenderness.
He lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead.
“Mmm… What time is it, darling…”
Qin Ruowei woke groggily, her thoughts still hazy. Yet she called him darling with remarkable ease—perhaps that counted as one of the spoils of the previous night.
Strangely enough, that single word made it difficult for Lin Bai, who was already stirred by the morning, to restrain himself. With one turn, he pressed Qin Ruowei beneath him.
“Mmm… What are you doing? I haven’t recovered yet… Ah…”
(Ten thousand words omitted here.)
…
More than an hour later, it was nearly noon.
Qin Ruowei lay limp as a puddle of mud, too exhausted even to move her fingers.
Sweat had soaked the sheets, and traces of tears still clung to the corners of her eyes.
Fully dressed, Lin Bai lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
“Get some proper rest. I’ll go out and buy something to eat, along with some clothes for you.”
“Mm…”
Qin Ruowei felt as though she no longer even had the strength to speak.
Lin Bai tucked the blankets around her and turned to leave the hotel.
The commercial street was directly below the hotel. There were no particularly high-end luxury stores, but there were plenty of ordinary clothing shops.
Lin Bai entered a random women’s clothing store and, according to his own tastes, bought Qin Ruowei a lace camisole, a simple white T-shirt, and a pair of denim shorts.
The whole lot cost less than five hundred, far less than Lin Bai had expected.
Afterward, Lin Bai bought two portions of the grain-and-fish noodles Qin Ruowei liked and turned back toward the hotel.
On the way, his phone rang. Thinking Qin Ruowei might have remembered something, he picked it up—only to find that the message was from Chen Shuya.
“Lin Bai, can we meet and talk things through properly?”
