Volume One, Chapter 14: Dunhuang

Yu Yansui wrestled with her thoughts for a long time before finally deciding to accept the video call. The man on the screen had dazzling golden hair, a pair of captivating violet eyes filled with deep emotion, and lips tinged with a vivid red. His appearance was that of a Eurasian hybrid, blending Western and Chinese features. Even without any beauty filters, his face remained strikingly handsome, adorned with a sunny smile.
Yu Yansui stared at his face in a daze, silent.
“Cough, cough, are you so mesmerized that you can’t move? Snap out of it, Suisui.”
Her heart pricked, and a blush rose to Yu Yansui’s cheeks, but she stubbornly retorted, “Not at all!”
“Alright, alright, if not you, then it’s me who’s so enchanted I can’t move.”
“I’m hanging up now.”
“Wait, wait, you’re not here just to watch Dunhuang, right?” He swiftly switched to the rear camera, revealing a little black cat.
The black cat was quite spirited. It seemed to notice Yan Huaifeng filming it and rolled its eyes exaggeratedly at him. It meowed incessantly, and if translated, it was likely a string of curses, highly profane.
“Pfft, Brother Feng is really clever. Is it rolling its eyes at you?”
Yan Huaifeng sighed. “Ah, now you know why we call it Dunhuang?”
Yu Yansui, curious, asked, “Why?”
“There’s a popular internet phrase in Country C—‘Are you from Dunhuang? So many murals.’ Get the pun?”
Yu Yansui thought for a moment and laughed aloud, “So it’s a homophone joke! Brother Feng, you’re so talented. Haha.”
The cat seemed to understand they were mocking it and meowed even louder, nonstop.
Seeing Yan Huaifeng ignore it, the cat suddenly transformed into a wild creature, charging at him with a piercing scream.
Then Yan Huaifeng’s screen went black as his phone fell onto the table, and his scream echoed through the video call.
“Ahhhhh!! I’ve truly raised you in vain, Dunhuang, you ungrateful little black eye-roller—no, black-eyed cat!”
“Think about it! When you were abandoned and beaten on the streets, skinny as a twig, who took you in? I bought you ten-thousand-yuan-a-bag cat food without batting an eye! Ahhh!!”
The screams continued, a chaotic symphony of noises. Seeing this, Yu Yansui had no choice but to hang up and sent him a message to call back when he was free, then went off to have lunch.
—
Yu Yansui left the live stream room, humming a little tune and skipping to the dining hall.
By the time she arrived, Milos was already sitting elegantly at the table, dining.
She obediently pulled out the chair beside Milos and began eating.
Since her younger sister started streaming, she had visibly become livelier, no longer the silent, introverted girl she used to be, which was a good sign.
“How are you feeling today?”
“Not bad. I made some new friends today! But…”
“But what?”
“But my new friends are just as old-fashioned as you, brother. Haha.” Yu Yansui playfully made a funny face at Milos.
Milos paused mid-cut with his steak. In his sister’s mind, he was indeed old-fashioned, which slightly displeased him. Still, she was his sister, and no matter what, he would spoil her.
He glanced up at Yu Yansui, sensing her mood. “Old Master Yu called me today. He said you have to return to Country C in three months to be acknowledged.”
“Grandfather?”
“Yeah.” He gave a faint, knowing smile and added, “Before she passed, Aunt Yu arranged a fiancé for you. I think this recognition might be an engagement.”

Yu Yansui blinked in disbelief. “Isn’t this an arranged marriage, brother? I protest!”
“I think you’ll like him. We have business dealings, and he’s someone who can stand on equal footing with me.”
Milos kept his cards close to his chest, refusing to reveal any more no matter how much Yu Yansui pressed.
In an instant, Yu Yansui wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, deflated and no longer the happy girl she once was.
After the meal, Milos went off to work, leaving her alone in her room—a princess’s chamber filled with pink decor and plush toys.
She lay on her bed, wrapped tightly in her blanket, drained of all vitality.
—
For the following week, she streamed punctually from 8 a.m. to noon.
That corresponded to 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Country C.
And 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Country Y—prime times when viewership peaked.
During these seven days, she became increasingly adept at streaming, gradually shedding her timidity and becoming more outgoing.
Her fanbase grew steadily, surpassing 30,000 followers.
She grew closer to Yan Huaifeng and King, while Jiuli seemed busy, only occasionally dropping by with lavish gifts when she sang.
—
Yu Yansui styled her hair into two rounded buns, each adorned with green ribbons. She wore a short, fresh green-and-white modern Chinese qipao and a light pink lip gloss, exuding both innocence and charm.
King messaged her, saying he had something to do but would catch her stream later.
Lately, her streams focused on musical performances, but today she planned something entirely different.

[Star Guardian Member “Sangyou” is devotedly guarding.]
…
Yu Yansui winked sweetly. “Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, my darlings~”
[(Manager) Evening Breeze: Hehe, it’s my Suisui (holding flowers)]
[(Manager) Many Fish: Good evening, Princess]
[(Manager) Sangyou: Princess, you look so pure today]
[Finally found you, glad I never gave up]
[King is away; holding the princess tight is like a hundred-meter sprint]
[(Stretching) Upstairs falls flat on their face, you want a peach!]
[Well done!]
[The princess was stunning a few days ago, but today she’s breathtaking, like a fairy reincarnated]
The chat was flooded with compliments praising Yu Yansui’s appearance.
“I learned some new dubbing lines yesterday and came to embarrass myself. Be gentle if it doesn’t sound good.”
[No way, Princess, we appreciate you putting in the effort]
[(Manager) Many Fish: Anyone dares to insult, I’ll send them off for graduation]

[(Manager) Sangyou: Grab a little bench and settle in]
[What a talented woman, what can’t you do?]
[The princess has now unlocked talents—singing, violin, pipa, dubbing]
Reading the glowing comments on the public screen, a smile spread through Yu Yansui’s eyes, as if light was shimmering within.
She clipped her prepared dubbing script onto the stand, cleared her throat, and started the background music.
It was a collection of lines from several popular game characters.
“Clear river, sea breeze, the melting moonlight, the one to share it with is right beside us~”
“Xiao Qiao, work hard to grow stronger! Sitting alone in the grass, heartbroken?”
“Spring river, flower moon shining on endless life, the strings flow as we listen to the mountains and rivers entering dreams.”
“My name is Hu Tao, a genius exorcist from the Teyvat clan~”
“You think I dress like this to please you? Heh~ You guessed right, darling, are you enchanted by me?”
Yu Yansui’s voice shifted effortlessly, sweet one moment, sultry and languid the next, wielding her vocal transformations with finesse.
After finishing, she switched back to her natural voice and made a big heart with her hands. “Thank you all for your love.”
The praise and gifts flooded in—big and small alike.
[Evening Breeze gifted the streamer “Moonlit Star River”*1] (58,888 coins)
[Jiuli gifted the streamer “Flying Immortal on the Wall”*10] (4,999 coins)
“Thank you, Brother Feng, kiss, kiss.”
“Good evening, Brother Jiuli, long time no see.”
[(Manager) Jiuli: Good evening, little sweetheart]
[(Manager) Jiuli: Your voice really hits my type]
Jiuli was straightforward. Although Yu Yansui had grown bolder these days, whenever Jiuli said something flirtatious, she still blushed.
He was simply too disarming.
“Thank you for your fondness, Brother Jiuli.”
[(Manager) Jiuli: Oh? The little dog isn’t here today.]
The “little dog” referred to Evening Breeze, who was intensely protective of Yu Yansui. No matter if male or female, anyone showing interest in her triggered Evening Breeze to bark fiercely. Jiuli found it amusing and nicknamed him the little dog for his fierce guardianship.
[(Manager) Evening Breeze: If it’s too much, just pop out your eyeballs.]
Jiuli didn’t reply, instead showering Yu Yansui with grand gifts, one after another, with the system announcing each.
Suddenly, many people challenged Yu Yansui to PK battles, and she couldn’t refuse them all.
[(Manager) Jiuli: So many people are challenging you to PK?]
[(Manager) Jiuli: Little sweetheart, do you want to go on a winning streak tonight?]
