At Harbor City, on the set of a matchmaking show.

“Welcome to the nation’s top-rated romance event, Destiny Has Found You, a grand live marriage and relationship program...” The host held a gold-inlaid microphone, his voice rich and compelling.

Twelve glamorous female guests sat in elegant splendor on transparent crystal-like chairs, their gazes not on the host but fixed together on the revolving door ahead.

Then, from the door directly facing the stage, a tiny figure emerged with calm, graceful steps.

A few seconds later, a round, soft, adorably cherubic little face appeared beneath the glare of the spotlights.

“This...” The host was stunned, wondering if he was seeing things.

The little boy before him was just over knee height, at most five years old. Was he, was he here to find a date?

The little darling glanced leisurely around, then finally rested his eyes on the microphone in the host’s hand.

He blinked his grape-round, bright eyes, and with a faint curl of his pink little lips, beckoned to the stunned host with one finger.

“Handsome big brother, you’re so tall. My neck hurts from looking up. Could you crouch down a little?” the little darling asked in a soft, babyish voice.

Oh, so cute, so handsome!

The beautiful ladies in the audience could not help but feel pink bubbles rising in their hearts.

If only the babies they had in the future could be this good-looking.

After a moment’s hesitation, the host still half-bent his waist.

In the next second, his hands were empty...

The microphone had been snatched away!

The chubby little hands of the darling child held the microphone tightly, a flicker of excitement on his face.

Hm? What was this little fellow trying to do?

Everyone in the room looked in confusion toward the small boy at center stage, while the host only wanted his microphone back.

“Daddy!”

A childish cry sliced through the beautiful, enchanting night air like a thunderclap.

“Daddy, Daddy!”

The little darling broke into a run on his short legs, shouting as he ran.

“Daddy, where are you? How could you abandon your wife and child?”

“My mommy and I have been looking for you for so long. Why won’t you show yourself? Don’t you want your wife and son anymore?”

His cries grew louder and louder, every note filled with pain and grievance.

All eyes in the room followed the tiny figure racing across the stage, and everyone was deeply shaken.

The female guests were especially indignant.

“What kind of man is that, leaving such a small child behind? He’s a monster!”

“Whoever did something this wicked should be dragged out and exposed online! Everybody should go and tear him apart!”

“Yes, find that scumbag and hand him over to the police for a proper lesson!”

Even the person in charge of the matchmaking event had forgotten to call for a stop.

The floodlights and cameras followed the tiny figure closely, instantly turning everything that happened onstage into vivid images and broadcasting them live before the public.

The little darling grew tired from running and slowly came to a stop.

The host steadied himself, then hurried forward and asked, “Little one, what is your daddy’s name? Do you have a phone number? Brother, no, uncle will help you find him.”

He did not truly want to help the darling find his real father; he only wanted to find the child’s guardian and get them out quickly, so this matchmaking event would not be ruined.

“I don’t know either...” The little darling pouted, his eyes faintly reddening.

His features were exquisitely delicate, his large round eyes framed by thick, curled lashes, his skin fair and tender. Now, with his head lowered in grievance and sorrow, he aroused pity in everyone who saw him.

Even before tears fell, the balance of everyone’s hearts had already tilted toward him.

“I’ve never seen my daddy since I came out of Mommy’s belly. I’m five years old now, and I still don’t know who my daddy is...” His voice trembled with tears.

Everyone was shocked.

So it had been an unwed pregnancy?

But no matter what, abandoning wife and child was wrong. That scumbag!

The child was already five, and he still had not appeared. He was simply unfit to be human!

Outraged, the crowd wished they could rush straight up to that rotten husband and father and beat him senseless.

“And your mommy?” The host, seeing that he could not get anywhere with the father, had no choice but to start with the mother.

“Mommy worked herself to the bone raising me. She works until very late every day and has been desperate to earn money. She hasn’t rested for so many days, and now she has collapsed...” The little darling’s sorrowful voice rang powerfully through the microphone.

He simply stood there quietly onstage, not crying or making a fuss, not even seeming especially agitated, as if he were merely stating a plain fact.

And yet his young voice gripped every heart in the room.

In their hearts, they had already sentenced that unseen “scumbag father” to the harshest punishment.

“We have to drag this bastard out!”

“He must apologize and admit his mistakes, and make up for all the shame and suffering he has caused this mother and son all these years!”

The audience was in an uproar, voices surging like a wave.

Even the female guests were no longer concerned with finding dates; they all stood up to show their support for the little darling in his search for that scumbag father.

The host saw the situation slipping beyond control and wiped sweat from his brow in panic.

At that moment, in the corridor not far away, a row of tall bodyguards stood on either side, leaving a passageway wide enough for two people. A group respectfully escorted a man forward.

At the center of the group, the man was tall and straight, his brows and eyes carrying an invisible authority. He needed not speak a single word to command obedience from those around him.

“President Shaw, this is our program’s set, and what is being filmed right now is...” the middle-aged man with a thinning crown said with a flattering smile as he introduced the scene to the man in the center.

Even while speaking to him, he did not dare meet the man’s eyes directly.

The man glanced casually at the stage, then suddenly asked, “Who is up there?”

“President Shaw, right now our male guest is appearing...” one of the other managers was about to answer when someone beside him nudged him.

The words stopped short. He subconsciously looked toward the stage, and instantly went blank.

What sort of decent person came to a matchmaking event bringing a child along?

Fine, bring the child if you must, but why not watch him properly? How could a mischievous child just run wild onto the matchmaking stage like that...

And, and even snatch the host’s microphone?!

For several seconds, everyone was frozen.

The scene had happened far too suddenly, and right under the gaze of this important figure. Even the station’s senior leaders were at a complete loss.

Onstage, Lu Mingqi had originally planned to stop at just the right point and slip away before Mommy noticed, but with his 5.3 vision, he happened to lock eyes from afar with that crane among chickens in the crowd.

One glance, and he recognized the man.

After all, he had painstakingly persuaded Mommy to come here looking for work for the sake of this very man.

Mommy was still being interviewed backstage. He had intended that once she got the job and began working here, time would naturally give them opportunities to meet.

He had not expected that opportunity to arrive so soon.

But Mommy had not come yet, and he had to find a way to hold that man here.

“Daddy, Daddy! How could you be so cruel and abandon my mommy? Do you know how many years my mommy and I have looked for you, how much hardship we have suffered, how many cold stares we have endured, how often we went hungry, how often we had no home to return to?”

The child’s clear, bright voice carried through the microphone and reached every ear in the room with perfect clarity.

The crowd was inflamed, all of them denouncing that human trash of a father.

The murmuring discussion did not cease.

On the corridor side, the executives in suits and ties all had beads of sweat breaking out on their foreheads.

They had really stirred up a huge mess today!

Cautiously, they looked toward the man in the center, waiting to be scolded.

But the man ignored them entirely, his eyelids lowered as he looked at his phone.

They waited ten-odd seconds, each second seeming like a year.

At last, the man raised his head.

“Keep broadcasting.”

With those words, he lifted his foot and moved on.

Everyone was baffled. Then one of his subordinates stepped forward and leaned in to whisper.

“The ratings are up 2.3 percent compared with the same time slot...”

The crowd immediately breathed a sigh of relief and hurried after him.

Hm? Why was he leaving already?

Onstage, Lu Mingqi was dumbfounded.

Holding the microphone tightly, he started to hurry after them on his little legs.

But just as he moved, someone grabbed him.
