Chapter 60: The Great Beauty Hu
"What are you in such a hurry for? This matter is a good thing for us."
"A good thing?" Hong Haifeng was rather puzzled, completely failing to see how any of this could possibly be considered good.
"No one really knows how deep Hu Jiayun's background truly is, nor how intimate the relationship between Qin Feng and Hu Jiayun actually is; we can only guess. Now Qin Feng has been suspended, and barring any accidents, he will likely be dismissed or even expelled.
"If Hu Jiayun's background is profound enough, and if Qin Feng really does have a close relationship with her, do you think anything will happen to Qin Feng? At most, it would just be a superficial disciplinary action, nothing for us to worry about at all," Xu Guoli said.
"And what if that's not the case?" Hong Haifeng asked.
"If it's not, then why should we bother making a fuss? Let him take whatever disciplinary action comes his way. This incident gives us a great opportunity to verify Hu Jiayun's true identity and her relationship with Qin Feng," Xu Guoli said with a sinister smile.
"We won't get involved in this. Just act like we know nothing about it," Xu Guoli instructed finally.
Hu Jiayun had been staying in the hospital room attending to Qin Feng. That afternoon, a woman suddenly rushed in.
"Qin Feng, how are you?" Hong Yue asked anxiously as she pushed open the door and walked in.
As soon as Hong Yue entered, she caught sight of Hu Jiayun.
Thinking the room was empty, Hong Yue had not expected Hu Jiayun to be there, and her face instantly flushed red.
"Hello, Secretary Hu," Hong Yue greeted, looking thoroughly embarrassed.
"Hong Yue, why are you here?" Qin Feng was equally surprised by Hong Yue's sudden appearance.
"Are you even capable of speaking properly?" Hu Jiayun glared at Qin Feng, then smiled, pulled Hong Yue over, and had her sit down on a chair.
"Hong Yue, it's great that you're here. I need to hurry back for some matters, and since you happen to be a nurse, would you mind helping me look after him here? I'll head back first." Hu Jiayun pulled Hong Yue to sit beside Qin Feng, then turned and walked out of the hospital room.
"Sister..." Qin Feng called out, but Hu Jiayun pretended not to hear and walked straight out.
"How are you doing? What happened? I heard from my brother that you were injured while fighting a fire," Hong Yue asked anxiously.
"I'm fine, just some minor scrapes."
"How could it be just a scrape? Your foot is in a cast. Is it fractured?" Hong Yue asked with a distressed look at Qin Feng's suspended, plaster-wrapped leg.
"It's no big deal, it just looks scary. The doctor said I can be discharged in a few days," Qin Feng said, trying to play it down.
"How can you say it's nothing? I'm a nurse, don't I know? How did you get hurt this badly? Who adjusted this IV drip? Why is it running so fast?" Hong Yue fiddled with the infusion tube.
"I adjusted it myself. I wanted it to finish sooner so I could get it over with. It's too exhausting," Qin Feng confessed honestly.
"How could you adjust it so fast? You can't just mess with this randomly. You really never fail to make people worry," Hong Yue chided him.
Leaving the hospital, Hu Jiayun put away her relaxed expression. She had deliberately made up an excuse to leave upon seeing Hong Yue arrive, wanting to create an opportunity for Qin Feng and Hong Yue to be alone. She genuinely wished to bring Qin Feng and Hong Yue together as a couple, yet for some reason, her heart felt sour and inexplicably heavy.
What weighed even more heavily on her mind was the trouble Qin Feng had landed in. Based on Qin Feng's deductions, Hu Jiayun was a hundred percent certain that Wang Yunfei was pulling strings behind the scenes, yet given the current situation, overturning this verdict would be exceptionally difficult.
If no evidence could be found to prove that someone had deliberately set the fire, the incident would simply be classified as a natural disaster. And a natural disaster meant a failure in preventive measures. Although Qin Feng had fought valiantly and made contributions during the firefighting effort, as the inspection team leader, he also bore inescapable responsibility.
As to whether his actions ultimately counted as meritorious service or a fault, it would entirely depend on the judgment of those higher up. If Wang Yunfei was indeed behind this, he surely had everything planned out in advance.
Of course, if it truly came to that point, the matter wouldn't be particularly difficult for Hu Jiayun. A single phone call to her father or Secretary Han would steer the situation firmly in Qin Feng's favor. However, she knew her father's character all too well; he would never allow her to use his name for personal matters.
The last time Hu Jiayun asked the discipline inspection commission to investigate, she had gone through her former superior without invoking her father's name. Moreover, that previous instance had not been for personal gain—the old man's death and the corruption in the civil affairs office were real, and helping Qin Feng had merely been a secondary outcome.
This time, however, was clearly different. If it couldn't be proven that someone had deliberately set the fire, Qin Feng would inevitably have to take the blame.
Sitting in her car, Hu Jiayun didn't drive back to Bishan immediately; she sat pondering how to break the deadlock. Idly flipping through her phone, she scrolled through short videos. Suddenly, a video popped up showing Qin Feng covered in blood as he was being carried out of the burning building during the rescue.
Seeing this, an idea suddenly flashed through Hu Jiayun's mind. She opened her contacts and dialed a number.
"Beauty Hu, what wind blows you here today? How is it that you suddenly remembered to call me?"
"Lili, does your television station still need material?" Hu Jiayun asked directly.
"Material? Of course we do. When does a television station ever not need material? The more the better, the more explosive the better. What? Do you have something?"
"I have a video from our township. I'll send it to you to take a look at. See if your station can broadcast it. That way you get your material, and our township gets a chance to do some publicity," Hu Jiayun said with a smile.
That very afternoon, a crew from the Dongyang City Television Station headed to the fire scene to conduct interviews and filming, and also interviewed several local residents who had participated in the firefighting efforts.
Hong Yue stayed in the hospital room taking care of Qin Feng. Being a nurse, no one was more attentive and thoughtful than her when it came to patient care. The only drawback was that it made Qin Feng feel deeply uneasy and apologetic.
"Hong Yue, it's getting late. You should head back quickly. If you don't leave soon, there won't be any buses back to Bishan."
"No need. I already asked the head nurse for leave when I came. I'm taking my annual leave for this year."
