Chapter 59 Unable to Hold It In Anymore
"Do you have any evidence?" Hu Jiayun asked.
"No. At the time, my mind was entirely focused on fighting the fire, so I didn't think about these things. But when I fell from the mountain and hit the ground, I found a container that had a very strong smell of gasoline."
"I didn't know if it would be useful, and I was afraid the oil drum might burn up in the fire, so I had someone bring it down with us and handed it over to Li Dejun." As Qin Feng said this, he subconsciously reached into his pocket for the cigarette and lighter he had secretly kept.
Just as he pulled out the cigarette, Hu Jiayun snatched it right out of his hand. "You're lying in a hospital bed and still smoking? Confiscated."
Qin Feng could only laugh helplessly.
"This matter won't be that simple. Whether it was done on purpose and whether it was aimed at you will become clear in the next couple of days," Hu Jiayun said with a deep frown.
"Never mind all that for now. Focus on recovering from your injuries first. Are you hungry? What would you like to eat? I'll go buy you some milk and fruit," Hu Jiayun asked.
"Sister, I want to smoke, just one cigarette, please?" Qin Feng acted spoiled, trying to charm Hu Jiayun.
"Get lost! Just lie properly in bed. I'm going to buy you some things. Look at how dirty your face is." Hu Jiayun rolled her eyes at Qin Feng and walked out.
Before long, Hu Jiayun returned carrying several bags. She took a newly bought basin and towel into the bathroom, then walked over to Qin Feng with the towel and said, "Close your eyes."
Qin Feng obediently closed his eyes while Hu Jiayun wiped his face and hands. Qin Feng chuckled.
"You really are an optimist. You're hurt like this, and you don't even know if your job is safe, yet you still have the mood to laugh here." Hu Jiayun glared at Qin Feng.
"When it rains, it rains; when a mother remarries, she remarries—some things are beyond my control. Since I can't fight it, why should I worry? Let whatever happens happen. The worst that can happen is I just quit and walk away."
"You certainly are carefree."
"This isn't being carefree, it's helplessness. Besides, with you here taking care of me, sister, suffering this injury was worth it."
As soon as Qin Feng finished speaking, he received a light knock on the head from Hu Jiayun, who scolded angrily, "What kind of nonsense are you talking about? What? Do you think your injuries aren't serious enough?"
"Sister, I'm speaking from the heart!"
"Go away. Do you think your sister is that easy to fool? Do you think a few sweet words from you are enough to trick me into willingly staying here and acting like your personal maid? In your dreams." Although she said that, Hu Jiayun went over to peel some fruit for Qin Feng, then fed it to him piece by piece.
Qin Feng lay in bed with his mouth open, waiting to be fed, thoroughly enjoying the moment.
"Um... Sister..."
"What is it?"
"Help me up for a moment."
"What are you trying to do?"
"I need to go to the restroom," Qin Feng said awkwardly.
"No way. The doctor said you are strictly forbidden from putting your feet on the floor these few days."
"But I need to go to the bathroom. I can't hold it."
"Just take care of it in bed."
"How am I supposed to take care of it in bed? Do you want me to mess myself?" Qin Feng panicked.
"Wait, let me find something for you." Hu Jiayun looked around the room and then walked out.
Not long after, Hu Jiayun walked back in with an object in her hand. Qin Feng had no idea what this thing was called—let's call it a urinal. It was the first time in his life he had ever seen one.
"What is this?" Qin Feng asked, looking at the object in astonishment.
"What do you think it is? Isn't the shape obvious enough?"
"This... how do you use it?"
"What do you think? Do I need to teach you?" Hu Jiayun gave Qin Feng a sideways glance.
"No, no, this is too embarrassing. I'd rather go to the bathroom. Help me up," Qin Feng insisted.
"If you dare to get out of bed today, I'll break your damn legs. Just try it," Hu Jiayun warned Qin Feng.
"Sister... I really can't hold it anymore," Qin Feng wailed in agony.
Hu Jiayun rolled her eyes at Qin Feng, turned around to close the ward door, and then lifted Qin Feng's blanket, preparing to pull down his pants.
Frightened, Qin Feng grabbed the waistband of his pants to stop her and begged for mercy, "Sister... I'll do it myself, I'll do it myself..."
"Can you manage by yourself?" Hu Jiayun asked.
"I can. It's my foot that's injured, not my hand," Qin Feng quickly said, pulling the blanket back over himself.
"Sister, you should step outside for a moment." Qin Feng prepared to take off his pants under the blanket, but when he caught Hu Jiayun staring right at him, his face immediately turned red.
"It's not like I haven't seen it before. What are you blushing for?"
"Sister..." Qin Feng felt completely mortified.
"Fine, fine, fine. I'll go out and stand guard at the door for you, okay? Be careful and don't move that leg under any circumstances. If you can't manage on your own, shout for me immediately. Did you hear me?"
Qin Feng nodded hastily, acting as obedient as could be.
Hu Jiayun smiled as she walked out and closed the door.
With one leg in a cast and suspended in the air, operating was indeed difficult, but Qin Feng exerted a tremendous amount of effort to finally resolve the issue.
The moment he finished, Hu Jiayun walked back in, making Qin Feng suspect that she had been eavesdropping right outside the door.
Walking in without the slightest sign of disgust, Hu Jiayun picked up the urinal and carried it straight into the bathroom, muttering as she walked, "Did you eat something heat-inducing? It smells so pungent."
That single remark completely shattered Qin Feng's psychological defense.
Though his face burned with embarrassment, his heart was deeply moved. He had no blood relation whatsoever with Hu Jiayun. Yet this woman—who moreover was a known neat freak—was willing to do something like this for him without reservation.
As Qin Feng lay in his hospital bed receiving an IV drip, Hu Jiayun stayed right by his side the entire time.
Meanwhile, back in Bishan Township, the deputy county magistrate in charge of fire safety personally led personnel from relevant departments to the fire site for an inspection. Afterward, they held a meeting at the Bishan Township Government office. During the meeting, the deputy magistrate flew into a rage, repeatedly emphasizing that the county would handle this matter severely and hold people accountable. He also announced on the spot that Li Dejun and Qin Feng were suspended from their duties pending investigation, while all other relevant personnel awaited further disposition.
Suspension pending investigation was merely a temporary sanction—just a procedure, a process. Wang Yunfei knew in his heart that the official disciplinary decision would come down within days, and neither Li Dejun nor Qin Feng would escape being fired.
Once the meeting concluded, Hong Haifeng walked straight into Xu Guoli's office.
"Secretary Xu, has Qin Feng really just been suspended like that? What are we supposed to do?" Hong Haifeng asked anxiously. The situation had reversed itself far too quickly. Previously, he had been bent on marrying Hong Yue off to Qin Feng, but now Qin Feng had been suspended in a flash.
