Chapter 49 Are You Jealous?
Qin Feng was completely unaware of all this; he still thought Hong Yue had fallen asleep.
He gathered a large pile of firewood and started a fire beside the vehicle. The warmth from the flames quickly spread. Sitting alone by the fire, smoking and dozing off, he prepared to spend the night like this.
Just then, the car door suddenly opened.
Qin Feng quickly turned around and saw Hong Yue step out of the car.
“Why did you come out? Not going to sleep?” Qin Feng asked.
Hong Yue wrapped herself in Qin Feng’s jacket as she walked over, then took it off and handed it to him. “You gave me your jacket—aren’t you cold without it?”
“Cold? I’m a strong, healthy man. I’m even sweating. If you catch a cold wearing it, how would I explain that to your brother?” Qin Feng joked.
Hong Yue knew Qin Feng was lying but didn’t call him out. She didn’t insist on giving the jacket back to him either. Instead, she wrapped herself tighter in the jacket and sat down by the fire again.
“Not going to sleep?” Qin Feng asked.
“I woke up. Can’t sleep anymore,” Hong Yue replied.
Qin Feng looked at Hong Yue, unsure if it was shyness or the heat from the fire, but her face was flushed, showing a delicate blush. Her long hair partially covered one side of her lovely face, making her incredibly alluring.
Hong Yue was indeed beautiful. Her beauty was distinct from Hu Jiayun’s. If Hu Jiayun was a dazzling, seductive rose, then Hong Yue was like a lotus just in full bloom—quiet, pure, yet equally enchanting.
“Sorry about this. Your brother asked me to take you to buy a computer, but with the meal money and then the car trouble, you ended up spending the night with me out here in the wilderness,” Qin Feng said with some guilt.
“How can that be your fault? If you hadn’t delayed so long helping me buy the computer, you’d have been back by now. Maybe the car wouldn’t have broken down,” Hong Yue said kindly.
“I’ve always wondered—Director Hong must be close to forty, right? And you’re only…” Qin Feng chatted casually.
“We’re five siblings; he’s the eldest brother, and I’m the youngest sister. So there’s quite an age gap,” Hong Yue explained.
“Oh, that makes sense.” Qin Feng understood; around Bishan, it was common for families in this generation to have four or five siblings.
“He’s my real brother, but more like a father figure. He’s always supported me through school…” The two sat by the fire, talking slowly. Hong Yue shared her life story, and Qin Feng talked about his work in Shanghai.
Early the next morning, Hong Haifeng sent a car to pick them up. As for the broken-down van, Hong Haifeng would naturally find a way to deal with it.
Just as Qin Feng returned to the office, he received a call from Yang Delin. His wife’s surgery had gone smoothly, and her life was saved. Even more delightfully, she had awakened—a rare one-in-ten chance that had been defied.
Yang Delin was deeply grateful in the call, shedding tears multiple times. As Qin Feng had said, though Yang Delin appeared rough around the edges, he was a sincere man, evident in his love for his wife.
“Did you have fun last night?” After work, Qin Feng still went to Hu Jiayun’s house, where she greeted him with a smile.
Qin Feng quickly understood what she meant and grew a little anxious. “Don’t say nonsense. Last night the car just broke down, that’s all.”
“I know the car broke down. You two, a man and a woman alone out in the wild overnight—didn’t anything happen?” she teased.
“What could happen? Stop imagining things. We just sat there all night. Hey… how did you find out?” Qin Feng was surprised.
“Early this morning, Hong Haifeng came to the office and told me about it. He said you two spent the night alone together. Although he didn’t say it outright, it was clear he wanted to settle things between you and make you take responsibility,” Hu Jiayun said with a smile.
“What… what responsibility? I didn’t do anything! Am I that kind of person? Isn’t he just being ridiculous? How did you respond to him?” Qin Feng asked.
“As the man’s family, what else could I say? After all, you’re the one who took advantage, right?”
“What advantage? I didn’t do anything. You’re making things up.”
“Whether you did or not, no one knows but you two.”
Looking at Hu Jiayun, Qin Feng suddenly smiled. “Sis, are you jealous?”
“Jealous? Jealous of you and that girl? You really think too highly of yourself,” Hu Jiayun laughed heartily before seriously saying, “But I promised Hong Haifeng that we’d settle your business in a few days!”
“What? You… you…” Qin Feng was genuinely worried.
“I’m kidding, seeing you so worked up. So? Do you really have no feelings for that girl?” Hu Jiayun stopped joking.
“Sis, you know why I don’t,” Qin Feng looked at her.
Hu Jiayun laughed and scolded, “You little rascal, are you really trying to make a move on your big sister? I’m warning you—take your mind off me, got it?”
Qin Feng nodded silently. He knew Hu Jiayun was already married; since yesterday, he had given up on that hope.
Seeing Qin Feng’s expression, Hu Jiayun suddenly felt a pang of sympathy and sighed. “Qin Feng, is it that only when I’m not here can you focus on that girl? She really is a good girl.”
“Sis, can we not talk about this anymore?” Qin Feng felt annoyed.
“All right, then let’s talk about something else. Are you free this weekend to come with me to Shannan?”
“For what?”
“I’ve booked a car. I have a bit of a mental block about driving now. Come with me to help drive it back.”
“Okay,” Qin Feng nodded, though he was somewhat distracted and didn’t fully catch what Hu Jiayun was saying.
After Qin Feng left, Hu Jiayun muttered to herself, “Could it be that I really am jealous?”
