Lu Qiuyi chose to get up at noon.

After opening her eyes and lying there for a while, she finally remembered that she had arranged to learn golf from He Jingyue today.

He Jingyue was truly impossible to shake off.

Yunding Golf Practice Range.

Lu Qiuyi looked listless. She had never been particularly interested in golf, and to make matters worse, the coach had been arranged by He Jingyue—most likely another meticulous, demanding old man.

She trudged along behind He Jingyue until a tall, broad-shouldered blond man came smiling toward them.

“Mr. He, good morning! And this must be Miss Lu?”

His Chinese was fluent, though touched with a slight accent. His blue eyes were as clear as a lake, and his smile was brilliantly sunny.

“I’m David Robinson. It’s a pleasure to be of service.”

Lu Qiuyi’s eyes lit up at once.

Blond hair, blue eyes, and legs for days!

Lu Qiuyi had no particular virtues to speak of, except honesty—she was a purely visual creature.

“Hello, David! I’m Lu Qiuyi!” she said, immediately breaking into a radiant smile. “Your Chinese is excellent.”

“Thank you for the compliment.” David’s smile became even more charming. “I’ve been in China for five years. Shall we begin?”

Throughout the lesson, David was professional and patient, humorous and entertaining, without the slightest trace of the arrogance one might expect from a top-level coach.

Lu Qiuyi was delighted to learn, and her enthusiasm soared to unprecedented heights.

During a break, she gazed at David’s handsome profile as a small scheme began to crackle into life in her mind.

It would be such a waste not to add a handsome man like him on WeChat.

Perhaps she could even ask him out sometime in the future.

Summoning her courage, she took out her phone. “Coach David, you’re such a wonderful teacher. Would you mind adding me on WeChat? That way, I can ask you for advice if I have any questions later.”

David seemed accustomed to this sort of situation. Smiling, he was just about to take out his phone.

“Of course, I—”

Before he could finish, a figure slipped unobtrusively between them.

He Jingyue had come over at some point, and his expression seemed several degrees colder than before.

Ignoring David’s slightly surprised gaze, he reached out and took the phone Lu Qiuyi was about to hand over for scanning.

Lu Qiuyi: What?

She looked up in astonishment and met He Jingyue’s deep, unreadable eyes.

Without even glancing at David, He Jingyue said, “There’s no need to trouble Coach David. I can teach you the basic movements myself.”

The breath caught in Lu Qiuyi’s chest. She nearly suffocated.

He was going to teach her?

She wanted to live for at least two more years!

Seeing the situation, David gave an awkward smile and tactfully stepped several paces away.

“That works too. Mr. He’s golf skills are at a professional level. I’ll go check on the other students first.”

Lu Qiuyi watched helplessly as the pleasing-to-the-eye coach departed, then glared at He Jingyue.

“Mr. He, what exactly is the meaning of this?”

He Jingyue casually picked up a practice club.

“It means your lesson fees are expensive. Don’t waste them on pointless socializing. Come here. Relax your wrists, lower your shoulders. Everything about your posture just now was wrong.”

The “lesson” that followed was sheer torture for Lu Qiuyi.

“Your center of gravity is wrong.”

“Keep your pivot foot steady.”

“Watch the ball, not the sky.”

“Generate power from your waist, not by flailing your arms.”

“Again. The angle is wrong too.”

“Assistant Lu, if this is the extent of your concentration, I suggest you go back now and write your project review report.”

Lu Qiuyi was so angry her teeth itched. Yet she did not dare simply throw down the club and leave. All she could do was curse He Jingyue a thousand times over in her mind.

Seething with resentment, she mechanically repeated the dull swinging motions, feeling more exhausted than she would have after working overtime for three consecutive days.

On the way back, Lu Qiuyi sat in the passenger seat with her lips pressed tightly together, saying nothing. She kept her head turned toward the window, watching the streetscape rush past and making her displeasure and fury perfectly clear with the back of her head.

More than twenty minutes passed. They had already covered over half the distance, yet Lu Qiuyi maintained her absolute silence.

Today, Lu Qiuyi was remarkably capable of holding her temper.

As they slowed to a stop at a red light, He Jingyue tapped his fingers lightly against the steering wheel. At last, he turned his head slightly.

“Speak.”

Flames burned in Lu Qiuyi’s beautiful almond-shaped eyes. “I did!”

He Jingyue: What?

What had she said? He had not heard a thing.

Lu Qiuyi forced out a fake smile and raised her voice by an octave.

“You didn’t hear me? My silence is deafening!”

He Jingyue: …

Seeing his speechless expression, Lu Qiuyi secretly reveled in triumph.

Hmph! That was what he got for stopping her from adding David on WeChat and snapping at her!

A few minutes later, the black Rolls-Royce Phantom glided smoothly into the underground parking garage.

Once the car came to a stop, Lu Qiuyi gave him a smile that did not reach her eyes.

“Mr. He, we’re here.”

He Jingyue remained in the driver’s seat, showing no intention of getting out immediately.

The garage’s motion-sensor lights cast a gentle glow, filling the car with tranquil silence.

He Jingyue lifted a hand and rubbed the space between his brows. Then he turned toward Lu Qiuyi, who was still bristling with anger. His voice was lower and gentler than usual.

“What exactly are you angry about?”

It was only a matter of stopping her from adding an irrelevant coach on WeChat.

Lu Qiuyi gave a cold laugh inwardly.

“Mr. He, I’m an adult with normal social needs. Although you’re my superior, our relationship is merely that of a boss and employee. You have no say over whom I make friends with, do you? What right do you have to stop me from adding someone else on WeChat?”

He Jingyue countered unhurriedly, “Do you need me to remind you that Coach David Robinson is best known for the gossip surrounding his changing female companions every week, on average?”

Lu Qiuyi blinked. “What?”

She genuinely had not known that.

“If what you call your ‘right to socialize’ means throwing yourself impatiently into such an obvious romantic trap,” He Jingyue said, his tone carrying a hint of mockery, “then as your employer, I believe I have a duty to conduct the necessary risk management, to prevent my assistant’s private affairs from affecting her work efficiency or causing unnecessary trouble for the company.”

“You…” Lu Qiuyi was rendered speechless, her face flushing red. “Couldn’t I simply have added him on WeChat to ask about golf? You’re the one with the complicated mind, imagining too much!”

“Besides,” He Jingyue pressed his advantage, “given your talent for golf, I believe asking me for advice would offer better value for money.”

Lu Qiuyi: !!!

A personal attack!

A flicker of amusement passed through the depths of He Jingyue’s eyes.

“Brand C has just released a limited-edition handbag. I hear it’s very difficult to get.”

Lu Qiuyi’s ears twitched almost imperceptibly, but she continued to stare stubbornly out the window without saying a word.

Hmph. Did he think he could buy her off with a handbag?

Was she really such a shallow person?

He Jingyue waited several seconds. When no response came, he raised an eyebrow, a trace of puzzlement entering his voice.

“What now?”

Lu Qiuyi abruptly turned back. Her beautiful face was filled with righteous indignation, as though he had gravely insulted her. With great emphasis, she declared,

“One won’t do!”

Counting on her fingers, she began settling the account with perfect justification.

“Emotional distress, the shock of your teaching methods, and compensation for interfering with my social life. You think one handbag can make up for all that? I need at least three.”

He Jingyue: …

It appeared that he was being extorted.

But she was so adorable.

He laughed despite himself and murmured two words.

“Greedy.”

It amounted to consent.
