Chapter 38: Ye Huan Reveals His Medical Skills
Inside the cafeteria of the Lin Group!
"What kind of dishes did you order for me?"
Ye Huan looked at the table full of food Lin Xi had ordered for him, completely stunned.
Ginseng, goji berry, and black date stewed with soft-shelled turtle, grilled oysters, roasted lamb kidneys, stir-fried beef testicles, cold-mixed bull penis, chives with scrambled eggs, black rice...
What was this for? Was she trying to kill him with aphrodisiacs?
"The Lin Group has a lunch break, so eat quickly, and then come to my office!" Lin Xi whispered, looking shy.
Ye Huan: "???"
What was going on? On the way to the cafeteria, this girl looked like she wanted to murder him; why was she suddenly acting so amorous? It was too abrupt!
Just then, Ye Huan received a text message from Jin Jiu. After reading it, he tucked his phone away, showing no intention of telling Lin Xi about it.
"Eat up!" Lin Xi urged.
"Oh!" Ye Huan started eating immediately.
"Finish it all, don't leave anything behind!" Lin Xi said, while eating her own diet meal and constantly putting food into Ye Huan's bowl.
Just as Ye Huan had finished half of the massive spread, suddenly—
"Ah..."
A scream echoed throughout the cafeteria. Ye Huan and Lin Xi turned to look. A staff member who had been eating suddenly collapsed, convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
"Epileptic seizure?"
Ye Huan and Lin Xi scrambled to their feet and rushed over. Ye Huan knelt down and took the employee's left hand to check his pulse.
Right at that moment—
"Ah..."
"Ah..."
"Ah..."
More screams erupted one after another as employee after employee collapsed, convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
"This is not epilepsy!" Lin Xi’s face turned pale.
"It's poisoning!" Ye Huan’s expression darkened. He said coldly, "Immediately secure everyone in the kitchen. Also, go and get me a set of silver needles!"
The security guards eating in the cafeteria immediately sprang into action, moving in a well-trained, disciplined manner.
"Poisoning?"
Lin Xi and everyone in the cafeteria were horrified. Some of the quicker-witted ones immediately knelt down and tried to induce vomiting by sticking their fingers down their throats.
"Don't talk nonsense!" Lin Xi scolded, seeing that Ye Huan’s words had caused widespread panic.
"There’s no mistake, it’s poisoning!"
Ye Huan quickly pressed several acupoints on the affected employee before running to the others to do the same, sealing their meridians to prevent the poison from spreading.
"How do you know they were poisoned?" Lin Xi chased after him, asking.
The others in the cafeteria were also watching Ye Huan closely, wondering: if these people were truly poisoned by the food, why were they themselves perfectly fine?
"Everyone who was poisoned ordered the duck blood vermicelli soup!" Ye Huan had taken note of the meals on their tables while he was sealing their acupoints.
As soon as he said this, everyone looked around. Sure enough, on the tables of every person who had collapsed, there was a bowl of unfinished duck blood vermicelli soup.
"Call an ambulance, quickly!" Lin Xi shouted, no longer caring about whether it was poisoning or how Ye Huan knew.
Someone immediately pulled out a phone to dial 120.
"Wait, don't call an ambulance!" Ye Huan shouted, his voice deep and serious.
Lin Xi was furious: "Stop causing trouble! These people are in critical condition. If they aren't taken to the hospital and something happens to them, what will we do?"
"I can detoxify them!" Ye Huan said.
"We don't even know their condition yet! What if it's not poisoning? You're a veterinarian; human and animal physiology are different. Your judgment might not be accurate. We must get them to the hospital for emergency care now!" Lin Xi scolded him while trying to dial 120 herself.
"A large number of employees were poisoned while dining at the Lin Group cafeteria. If this news gets out, you know exactly what the consequences will be, don't you?" Ye Huan asked sternly.
Lin Xi’s body trembled, and her hand froze. She knew that if this leaked, it would be a massive scandal for the Lin Group. However, after a moment of hesitation, she said, "Human life is more important than the company’s reputation. Get them to the hospital first!"
She reached to dial 120 again. Ye Huan snatched the phone from her hand and said seriously, "I said I can detoxify them. Can you trust me just this once?"
"Lives are at stake! How do you expect me to trust you? Give me the phone!" Lin Xi demanded angrily.
At that moment, the security guard returned with the silver needles. Ye Huan took them and began to quickly treat the poisoned employees. Seeing this, Lin Xi was livid. Without knowing the diagnosis, if Ye Huan—a veterinarian—caused further harm or worsened their condition, it would be an even bigger scandal than the poisoning itself. She moved to stop him, but was blocked by a guard.
"What are you doing?" Lin Xi demanded.
"Please do not disturb Mr. Ye while he is performing treatment," the guard said expressionlessly.
"Move aside!" Lin Xi barked. The guard didn't budge.
Lin Xi was furious: "I order you as the President: get out of my way!" The guard still didn't move.
The scene shocked the other employees; they couldn't believe a guard would dare defy the President.
"You're fired!" Lin Xi said coldly. The guard remained as motionless as a statue, ignoring her.
Lin Xi was about to explode. She slapped at the guard's face to push him aside, but he easily dodged her attack.
Lin Xi: "..."
"Done!"
At that moment, Ye Huan stood up and ran to the next victim, followed by the guard. Lin Xi and the other employees were stunned. Done? They looked at the employee Ye Huan had just treated. The man stood up as if nothing had happened, looking around in confusion: "What happened?"
Lin Xi: "..."
Everyone in the cafeteria: "..."
At this moment, everyone finally believed that the people who had collapsed were indeed poisoned, and that Ye Huan truly possessed the ability to detoxify them. Lin Xi felt a wave of intense embarrassment; her prejudice and subconscious distrust of Ye Huan had nearly cost these employees their lives.
"Done!"
After half an hour, Ye Huan finished treating everyone. He stood up and said, "I have neutralized the poison, but your stomachs have suffered some damage. Eat light for the next few days and avoid irritating foods." The employees nodded vigorously, promising to comply.
The guard gave Ye Huan a subtle signal, and Ye Huan headed toward the kitchen. Lin Xi stayed behind to soothe the staff, telling them to keep the incident quiet and promising compensation to the victims.
In the back kitchen, all the staff were squatting on the floor with their hands on their heads, guarded by eight security guards holding rubber batons with cold, stern expressions.
"Did you find out?" Ye Huan asked.
The eight guards nodded.
"Everyone else, get out!" Ye Huan ordered.
The unaffected kitchen staff scrambled out as if granted an amnesty. Soon, only Ye Huan, the eight guards, and a middle-aged, balding, obese man remained in the kitchen.
