Chapter 18: Kneel Down and Apologize to Me
When Ye Huan and Lin Xi arrived at the Super Face bar, they saw from a distance a crowd gathered at the entrance, murmuring among themselves. Su Lei was among them.
“Are those all the people attending tonight’s birthday party?” Ye Huan asked.
“Yeah,” Lin Xi nodded, puzzled. “Strange, why are they all standing outside the bar?”
Ye Huan couldn’t answer that question, but he finally understood why Lin Xi hadn’t worn an evening gown—everyone attending the birthday party was dressed casually. None of the girls were in formal dresses; some were dressed quite provocatively, catching the eye.
“Lin Xi is here!” Someone in the crowd at the bar’s entrance spotted Ye Huan and Lin Xi. Immediately, the chatter stopped. All heads turned to look at them, then all eyes scrutinized Ye Huan as if he were livestock!
“Xi Xi, you finally made it! Everyone’s been waiting just for you!” Shen Huamei stepped forward to greet Lin Xi and gave her a brief hug.
“I went home to change after work, so I’m late,” Lin Xi explained with a smile. Noticing Shen Huamei sizing up Ye Huan, she was about to introduce him as her driver.
But then she heard Shen Huamei’s sarcastic sneer: “Lin Xi, is this the fiancé your grandpa Lin arranged for you? He looks alright, but he hardly seems like a butcher.”
As Shen Huamei sized up Ye Huan, Ye Huan was also assessing Shen Huamei. The girl had a good figure and classic beauty, but compared to Lin Xi, she was somewhat lacking.
“How do you know all this?” Lin Xi was shocked, unable to fathom how Shen Huamei knew about Ye Huan.
“How else would I know? By now, probably everyone in Peng City knows. You’ve been tricked into marrying a butcher, and it’s become a joke across the city,” Shen Huamei said, glaring at Ye Huan as if he were nothing but filth.
“Did you spread this?” Lin Xi angrily looked at Ye Huan.
Ye Huan shrugged. “You should ask that guy named Su Lei about it.”
Just then, Su Lei walked over and overheard Ye Huan’s words. Seeing Lin Xi glance at him, he awkwardly said, “Your mom, Aunt Li, told me.”
Lin Xi was furious. “And you told everyone?”
“That's not fair!” Su Lei hurried to explain. “After Aunt Li told me, I didn’t tell anyone. When I got here, everyone already knew. I was wondering who leaked the news.”
Lin Xi’s face darkened. At this point, she had guessed the culprit spreading the news. Knowing her mother Li Meiya, she suspected her mother had told all the guys pursuing her about her relationship with Ye Huan, and one of them leaked it.
“I’m going to be the headline in tomorrow morning’s business section!” Lin Xi sighed. Everyone else gets betrayed by their parents, but she was betrayed by her own mother.
“Xi Xi, don’t be mad. If anyone’s to blame, it’s this butcher,” Shen Huamei comforted Lin Xi, glaring furiously at Ye Huan.
Ye Huan looked at Shen Huamei as if she were insane. He thought to himself, if this girl had even graduated kindergarten, she wouldn’t say such things. To attack someone without understanding the situation—how foolish!
“I’m not angry. Actually, this was expected, just didn’t think it would happen so fast,” Lin Xi said. She didn’t blame Ye Huan; after all, she had insisted they get the marriage license. No matter who to blame, it couldn’t be Ye Huan.
“Since everyone knows, let me introduce you,” she said, then turned to Ye Huan. “This is the birthday girl tonight, Shen Huamei. Huamei, this is Ye Huan.”
“Hello,” Ye Huan politely extended his hand.
Shen Huamei, however, refused to shake it, wearing a disdainful and mocking expression: “A butcher like you doesn’t deserve to shake my hand. Keep your filthy hands to yourself and stay out of my sight—don’t dirty my eyes.”
A cold glint flashed in Ye Huan’s eyes. Was this girl trying to turn the birthday party into a funeral?
“Oh, oh, oh, looks like you’re angry!” Su Lei sneered when he saw Shen Huamei launch her attack.
“Didn’t Shen Huamei say it right? You really are a butcher. What right do you have to shake hands with a wealthy heiress like her? Your filthy hands are only fit to shake pig trotters,” Su Lei mocked.
The others at the party all nodded in agreement. To them, Shen Huamei’s refusal to shake Ye Huan’s hand was justified, and Ye Huan had no right to be angry.
Only Lin Xi cursed Su Lei silently for courting death. Ye Huan even dared to confront Jin Feiyu, let alone Su Lei.
“Su Lei, you’re looking for trouble!” Ye Huan said coldly.
“Oh? From your tone, looks like you want to hit me!” Su Lei mocked. He was not afraid of Ye Huan at all—he had bodyguards with him.
“Ha ha ha...” The others laughed scornfully in unison.
Su Lei pointed to his bodyguard beside him. “Butcher, do you know who this is? He’s my bodyguard. As for strength, I don’t know, but he’s a retired professional sanda champion. Beating up a butcher like you dozens of times is no problem.”
The bodyguard sneered in agreement. “Butcher, if you dare lay a finger on Mr. Su tonight, I’ll make you regret ever being born.”
Looking for death!
Ye Huan slapped the bodyguard across the face, sending him crashing to the ground, instantly deafened in one ear, his head buzzing.
Huh?
Su Lei’s confident, playful smile froze as he stared in disbelief at the bodyguard sprawled on the ground.
Wasn’t he a retired professional sanda champion?
How could he be so fragile?
Shen Huamei and the others had been waiting for Su Lei to provoke Ye Huan into striking first, so Su Lei’s bodyguard could then beat Ye Huan up without question.
But Ye Huan’s single slap knocked the bodyguard flat, catching them off guard.
The turn of events was utterly unexpected!
“So this is your so-called retired sanda champion who can beat me dozens of times?” Ye Huan sneered at Su Lei.
Su Lei was speechless...
“Kneel and apologize to me, or else tonight, in front of everyone, I’ll beat your face to a pulp!” Ye Huan said coldly.
Su Lei trembled with fear but, as the eldest son of the Su family, his pride forbade him from kneeling and apologizing publicly to a butcher.
Shen Huamei and the others couldn’t help but laugh. A butcher actually dared to threaten the eldest son of the Su family in public—completely clueless about his place.
They didn’t believe Ye Huan would actually hit Su Lei in front of everyone!
Lin Xi sighed quietly. She knew Ye Huan was probably going to make a move, but she didn’t stop him. She secretly hoped Ye Huan would beat Su Lei to establish authority so no one would dare speak ill of their marriage again.
“Kneel or not?” Ye Huan asked coldly.
Su Lei didn’t kneel. He couldn’t lose face like that.
Smack!
Ye Huan slapped Su Lei’s face again.
“Kneel or not?”
