Lin Xi completely ignored Jin Jiu’s fury. She did not even pick up his phone to watch the surveillance footage, merely saying calmly:

“This morning, Grandpa asked me to pick someone up at the airport. On the way back, four cars chased and surrounded me. Twelve knife-wielding thugs got out and tried to kidnap me, so I called the police and had them arrested.”

“After I went to Shangyang Food House, Jin Feiyu brought some men to the private room to cause trouble for me. The police arrived afterward and took them away.”

“According to the police, those twelve armed kidnappers confessed to Jin Feiyu’s crimes and provided evidence. That is why he was arrested.”

“As for why the men Jin Feiyu brought had blood on their heads and were unconscious, it was because Jin Feiyu ordered them to cripple the person I had gone to the airport to pick up. They were beaten instead.”

After hearing this, Jin Jiu’s heart sank to the bottom. If everything Lin Xi said was true, then his son Jin Feiyu was in serious trouble this time.

He drew a deep breath and addressed Lin Xi in a gentler tone:

“President Lin, you and Feiyu are good friends, and he’s been fond of you for so many years. I don’t think he had any malicious intentions in sending people to kidnap you. He was merely joking with you. How about this? You and Feiyu settle the matter privately and stop troubling the police and the courts.”

“Jin Feiyu wasn’t arrested solely for kidnapping,” Lin Xi said.

Jin Jiu froze. “What else did he do?”

“According to the police who arrested him, those twelve armed kidnappers confessed that he had committed murder, kidnapping, and many other crimes.”

Murder?

Jin Jiu’s expression changed dramatically.

If that charge was proven, his son Jin Feiyu would be finished!

“Lin Xi, you’ve killed my son!”

Jin Jiu’s expression twisted viciously. He glared at Lin Xi like a venomous snake and spoke through clenched teeth.

“Uncle Jin, I don’t understand what you mean. Did I tell Jin Feiyu to send people to kidnap me? Did I tell him to commit murder? Did I tell him to do all those evil and criminal things?”

Lin Xi retaliated without the slightest mercy.

“You…”

Jin Jiu flew into a rage and pointed at her.

“If you hadn’t called the police and had those twelve armed kidnappers arrested, they wouldn’t have exposed my son, and he wouldn’t have been arrested. You are the root cause of all this. You’re the one who ruined my son!”

“That’s completely unreasonable!” Lin Xi snapped angrily.

“Is this your first day knowing me?”

Jin Jiu gave a cold snort and threatened her:

“Listen carefully, Lin Xi. I don’t care what method you use. If I haven’t seen Jin Feiyu before dinner tonight, you can wait to die!”

With that, he snatched up the phone from the desk and stormed out.

Lin Xi slowly sat down, her brows tightly furrowed and her heart filled with worry.

She knew exactly what kind of man Jin Jiu was, and she understood the weight behind his words. Once Jin Jiu said something, he would certainly carry it out.

“Grandpa…”

Lin Xi called her grandfather, Lin Tai, and told him about Jin Jiu’s visit before asking:

“What should I do now? Jin Jiu is ruthless, and he always follows through on his threats!”

Lin Tai replied, “Call Ye Huan and ask him. He’ll have a way to deal with Jin Jiu.”

“What could a butcher possibly do?” Lin Xi said with a bitter laugh.

“You won’t know whether he has a solution unless you ask.”

“All right!”

Lin Xi gave him a perfunctory response and hung up, but she did not call Ye Huan to ask how he planned to deal with Jin Jiu.

In her opinion, neither she nor her grandfather could think of a way to handle Jin Jiu. How could a butcher with his brains in his crotch possibly come up with a solution?

Still, she could have Ye Huan act as her bodyguard. That way, she would not have to fear Jin Jiu sending people after her.

“It’s been more than twenty minutes. That scumbag Ye should have finished showering by now and started the preliminaries with the girl in the baseball cap…”

Lin Xi glanced at the time and sent Ye Huan a video-call request.

She had no intention of making him come protect her immediately. She was perfectly safe at the company, and Jin Jiu had said he would deal with her after dinner.

All she had to do was have Ye Huan pick her up after work.

As for now, of course she would continue tormenting him…

After taking a shower, Ye Huan came downstairs in a bathrobe. Seeing Hong Luan deep in thought, he said with a smile:

“Stop overthinking it. I really didn’t come to Peng City for any other reason.”

“I don’t believe you,” Hong Luan said frankly.

“Do I have any reason to lie to you?” Ye Huan asked.

Hong Luan was taken aback. That was true. If the Underworld King had really come to Peng City for some ulterior purpose, there would have been no need for him to hide it. With his strength and temperament, he would have disdained concealing it.

She asked, “Then how long do you plan to stay in Peng City?”

Ye Huan was just about to answer when his phone suddenly rang.

It was a video-call request from Lin Xi.

“Hello? What kind of nonsense are you up to now?” Ye Huan answered and asked irritably.

Lin Xi stared at Ye Huan on the screen, still wearing his bathrobe, and teased:

“Well, well. Finished showering?”

With that, she ended the video call. She had noticed that Ye Huan was in the living room rather than the bedroom, which meant he and the girl in the baseball cap had not started yet.

She decided to wait a little longer and call again once they began, interrupting Ye Huan at the crucial moment.

The thought of Ye Huan being impatient to fool around with the girl in the baseball cap, only to be interrupted by her and left painfully frustrated, made Lin Xi cover her mouth and giggle uncontrollably.

“What’s wrong with her?”

Ye Huan glanced at his phone and muttered in annoyance before sitting down and continuing his conversation with Hong Luan.

Ten minutes later, Lin Xi sent another video-call request. After he answered and she saw that he was still in the living room, she hung up again.

Another ten minutes passed. Lin Xi sent yet another video-call request. When she saw that Ye Huan was still in the living room after he answered, she hung up in disappointment once more.

And so it continued.

Every ten minutes, Lin Xi sent Ye Huan another video-call request. The moment he answered, she hung up, driving him completely mad.

“How have they still not started?”

With barely half an hour left before the end of the workday, Ye Huan and the girl in the baseball cap still had not begun. Lin Xi could not help wondering whether they had already done it in the car, leaving them without any desire for the entire afternoon.

“That shameless scumbag has wasted my whole afternoon!”

Lin Xi cursed angrily and was about to get back to work when she suddenly received an email.

It contained the information about Ye Huan that she had asked a friend to investigate.

“Abandoned at the entrance of an orphanage in Peng City immediately after birth…”

“At eight years old, abducted by human traffickers and never heard from again…”

“At eighteen, returned to the orphanage once, donated some money, obtained replacement identity documents and a household registration booklet, and then disappeared without a trace again…”

When she reached this point, Lin Xi suddenly felt that Ye Huan’s background was rather tragic and that his life had been full of hardships. For a moment, she felt sympathy and pity for him.

“No wonder he went into the slaughtering business. His life circumstances prevented him from pursuing further education. Without an academic background or any skills, he could only take up purely physical work like slaughtering.”

“He’s so good at fighting. He must have been bullied constantly after being abducted by the traffickers, which was how he developed those fighting skills…”

As Lin Xi imagined the reasons behind Ye Huan’s work as a butcher and his impressive fighting ability, she continued reading through his records.

Then, as she read, she suddenly froze.

“Ye Huan has suffered from a mental illness since childhood? He’s psychologically unstable? Whenever the illness strikes, he loses control of himself?”
