Volume 1, Chapter 62: Gu Changsheng Had a Dream
Little Black (the Chaos-Devouring Beast) let out a joyful yip, stuck out its tongue, and gave a slurp, instantly licking the half-bowl of the "universe model" completely clean.
The very next moment, a drastic transformation occurred.
"Boom—!!!"
An indescribably terrifying aura erupted explosively from within Little Black's body! Its black canine physique, which previously merely looked somewhat robust, began to swell wildly at a visible speed!
Every single hair on its body turned blacker than the stars, as if capable of devouring all light. Its four paws stepped into the void, yet caused the dimensional singularity where the entire Gu family ancestral land resided to emit an unbearable, groaning shriek.
Even more terrifyingly, the "restraint collar" around its neck—woven from the chains of the laws of three thousand worlds—was now emitting cracking and snapping sounds! One chain of law after another broke inch by inch like fragile hemp ropes!
"Woof!"
Little Black raised its head and let out a roar.
This roar was no longer an ordinary dog bark.
It was a primordial battle cry of an apex predator originating from the deepest origins of its bloodline, towering high above all living things!
The roar turned into a tangible shockwave that instantly pierced through the nine heavens and ten earths, surging into the myriad realms.
At this moment, in countless worlds, all living creatures—from lowly ants to immortal emperors—unexceptionally sensed the most primitive fear originating from the depths of their souls. It was as if their very "existence" was about to be swallowed up in a single gulp by some unspeakable terror!
Countless immortal kings and divine emperors tumbled out of their palaces in utter disarray, kneeling on the ground and trembling uncontrollably, having no idea what on earth had happened.
"Why are you getting fat again? I told you to go on a diet!" Gu Changsheng complained with dissatisfaction as he looked at Little Black, whose size had already ballooned to resemble a small mountain.
Upon seeing this, Uncle Fu's expression changed drastically. He knew what would happen when the leftover food of the Forefather, enhanced tenfold by the [Gourmet's Majesty], was fed to a Chaos-Devouring Beast like Little Black.
If it wasn't restrained immediately, Little Black would likely burst the entire myriad realms apart from failing to digest that terrifying energy!
With a single thought from Uncle Fu, a fragment of a black anchor—seemingly forged from pure "nothingness"—suddenly appeared in his palm.
It was precisely the sole remaining origin fragment of the "Void Anchor" after it had been "set right"! This object contained the supreme concepts of "end" and "annihilation," making it the perfect tool to neutralize the forces of "creation" and "order" contained within that bowl of instant noodles.
Uncle Fu used his hand as a hammer and the Dao as fire, forging and beating that anchor fragment on the spot into a brand-new, more unpretentious, yet far more terrifying dog collar.
"Little Black, come here."
Uncle Fu stepped forward holding the new collar.
Although Little Black's momentum was overwhelmingly vast, it remained as docile as a kitten in front of Uncle Fu. It lowered its massive head, allowing Uncle Fu to slip the collar crafted from the "Void Anchor" back around its neck.
The moment the collar clicked shut, the violently peerless aura on Little Black's body receded like a tide. Its colossal physique also rapidly shrank, returning once more to the appearance of an ordinary, harmless domestic dog, though its eyes seemed to have grown even more profound.
The crisis was thus averted.
Meanwhile, in the Gu family's true core council hall, that group of old monsters who had lived for countless epochs fell collectively into a daze.
Just moments ago, they had simultaneously received three reports.
The first came from the Heavenly Pivot Great World, describing how three God-Devourer fleets had been eerily erased by a single "marble."
The second came from the family's causality observation platform, reporting that the "God-Devourer Civilization," which once ran rampant across the Chaos Sea, had its "concept" of existence utterly "negated" from its root in a split second, returning to nothingness.
The third came from Uncle Fu, and its content was extremely simple: "The Forefather has just finished his meal and is in a fair mood."
Putting the three reports together, the truth spoke for itself.
The old monsters looked at one another in dismay, their expressions filled with extreme ecstasy and extreme terror.
"The Forefather... wiped out a top-tier civilization simply because he was displeased while playing with marbles?" an ancestor asked trembling.
"No, according to Uncle Fu's description, the Forefather terminated that game simply because he found the 'duel' itself boring. The God-Devourer Civilization was merely erased by the backlash of the 'rules of the game.' From beginning to end, the Forefather probably never even knew of their existence," another ancestor analyzed more thoroughly, which made it all the more chilling.
"What... what should we do?" asked a younger ancestor. "The unconscious actions of the Forefather are now powerful enough to affect the balance of the Chaos Sea. As the Guardian clan, shouldn't we... offer a gentle reminder?"
"A reminder?!" The ancestor with the highest seniority slammed his palm onto the table and roared angrily, "Are you insane?! How would you even remind him? Are you going to go up to the Forefather and say, 'When you play your games next time, Elder, could you be a bit more mindful and not make such a huge commotion? It's hard for us subordinates to clean up'? Do you honestly believe that the moment those words leave your mouth, the concept of a 'reminder' will vanish from the universe, and you yourself will be purified from the level of causality for offending the Forefather?!"
Everyone fell into a terrified silence.
"The Forefather's will is the new Heavenly Dao! The Forefather's preferences are the future order! As his clansmen, our job is not to 'guide' him, but to 'adapt' to him!" That ancestor made the final ruling. "Starting today, establish the 'Universal Aftercare Department,' dedicated to handling all universe-level events triggered by the Forefather's daily life. Repair law loopholes, pacify terrified civilizations, and erase the memories of witnesses! Everything must prioritize 'ensuring the Forefather can recline in absolute comfort' as the supreme guiding principle!"
"Understood!" all the ancestors replied in unison.
In the small courtyard, having eaten and drunk his fill, Gu Changsheng began to feel drowsy.
He walked over to the reclining chair, casually picked up the [Forefather's Pillow], and prepared to take a nice afternoon nap.
The moment he lay down, he yawned and muttered to himself, "Sigh, how boring. There isn't even anything to pass the time with. If only something fun could happen in my dream..."
As his voice trailed off, he drifted into a deep sleep.
And the [Forefather's Pillow], the instant it made contact with his conscious thought, emitted a faint, invisible-to-mortals light—a supreme will containing the sentiment "hoping something happens" that silently penetrated all of the Gu family's defenses and dispersed deep into the boundless Chaos Sea.
Gu Changsheng had a dream.
A dream that was incomparably real and filled with intense nostalgia.
In the dream, he had returned to Earth, back to his thirty-square-meter rental apartment. Outside the window was the familiar hustle and bustle of the city, on the desk were unfinished take-out boxes, and on the computer monitor displayed the login screen of his favorite game.
"Now this hits the spot..."
Gu Changsheng let out a long breath of relief, feeling every single cell in his body relax in comfort.
There was no world-destroying might, no servants capable of shattering the universe with a gesture, and none of those headache-inducing "great truths of the Dao"—only the cool air of the air conditioner, the bubbles of a cola, and a hearty gaming session about to begin.
This was the "lying flat" lifestyle he truly desired.
The [Forefather's Pillow] faithfully executed its duty, using Gu Changsheng's memories as a blueprint and Primordial Origin as "computing power," constructing a perfect dream world indistinguishable from reality.
However, what Gu Changsheng did not know was that his casual remark before falling asleep—"hoping something happens"—had already been defined by the pillow as a "highest priority directive."
