Chapter 11: Learning Ability
Yu Xiangsi withdrew her thoughts and said to Ji Jing, "If I can't eat something delicious, I still have to go back and review the materials." She curved her lips slightly. "My boss is a very strict person. I dare not slack off, or I’ll be scolded tomorrow."
Wasn’t her boss him? Reporting to him right in front of his face?
Ji Jing cast her a sidelong glance. Yu Xiangsi quickly added, "Of course, our boss is highly capable and holds high expectations for his subordinates. It’s not his fault."
Ji Jing couldn’t help but curl his lips. "Flattering, Assistant Yu. You have the makings of a sycophant."
Yu Xiangsi leaned closer. "Really? I always thought I was more the troublemaker type."
Ji Jing pinched her cheek lightly. "You’re quite clear about your own self-image."
A faint dimple appeared on Yu Xiangsi's cheek as her eyes curved into crescents.
Eventually, Ji Jing and Yu Xiangsi returned to their cozy apartment. On the way, Yu Xiangsi stopped by a nearby convenience store to pick up a few simple ingredients.
Ji Jing said, "What do you want to eat? I can have it delivered. Why bother cooking yourself?"
"Delivery noodles just don’t taste as good," Yu Xiangsi replied casually.
Ji Jing said nothing further; after all, she was willing to cook.
Back at the apartment, Yu Xiangsi put the ingredients into the fridge and began preparing a late-night snack.
Ji Jing watched her bustling in the kitchen and said, "Pack your things and move in tomorrow. This apartment is yours to live in."
Yu Xiangsi turned and wrapped her hands around his neck. "President Ji, are you planning to keep your beauty locked away?"
Ji Jing smiled faintly, lowered his head, and kissed her.
Yu Xiangsi was still inexperienced and couldn’t withstand his passion; she gasped, pushing him away.
"And... the noodles," she panted.
Ji Jing lifted her up in one swift motion. Yu Xiangsi let out a surprised cry and instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist.
He bent down to gently kiss her lips. "I’ll take you to turn off the stove."
Hanging on him, kissed, they moved toward the stove.
---
Yu Xiangsi finally found a moment to turn off the stove, but the temperature in the apartment only seemed to rise.
Exhausted, she fell asleep still thinking how ruthless Ji Jing was—working all day, then shining even brighter at night. She truly had suffered a great loss.
In the early hours, Ji Jing awoke inexplicably.
Feeling an emptiness in his arms, he turned over to find the space beside him empty.
Now fully awake, he opened his eyes. Yu Xiangsi was nowhere to be seen in bed.
He got up and walked out, noticing a faint light in the living room. She hadn’t turned on the main light, only a small table lamp.
She was sitting on the carpet, a laptop in front of her.
She was reviewing project materials.
Ji Jing spoke slowly, "As a boss, should I feel pleased or worried that my employee works so hard?"
He approached her and embraced her from behind. "You said you were tired earlier. Seems like you lied to me?"
Yu Xiangsi’s cheeks flushed slightly, then she shamelessly leaned into his embrace. "Do you know if I lied or not?" she muttered softly. "So rough."
"Complaining I’m not gentle? If I were, would you still have the energy to study here?"
Yu Xiangsi hooked her hands around his neck, nestling in his arms, pouting. "I’m just worried about delaying your project. The meeting is in a few days, and there’s still so much to read. I don’t want others to say you hired a pretty face."
He held her from behind and lowered his head to kiss her neck. She continued to focus on the laptop.
Ji Jing suddenly felt uneasy. "In your heart, who is more important—me or work?"
The moment he spoke, Ji Jing paused, then laughed at himself for such a ridiculous question.
Yet she closed the laptop, turned her head, cupped his face with both hands, and looked him in the eyes sincerely.
"You’re important. No matter what you compare me to, you’re the one who matters. To me, in any multiple-choice question where you’re an option, you’re always the only choice."
Ji Jing’s heart trembled at her earnest gaze.
At this moment, she gave him a feeling he had never experienced before.
Wholeheartedly, the one and only beloved.
---
Though he was not short of love, Ji Jing found in her a feeling he had never known.
His heart overflowed with tenderness as he drew her close.
Yu Xiangsi leaned against him, her eyes bright and clear.
Having been loved like this, she understood this feeling well.
No one could resist such love—including Ji Jing.
"I’ll watch with you," Ji Jing said softly.
Yu Xiangsi’s eyes lit up, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Are you coming to keep me company as my boss working overtime, or as my boyfriend?"
Her subtle hint was simply to win his heart. Such a transparent purpose did not annoy Ji Jing.
He was even willing to indulge her little whims.
Feigning nonchalance, he said, "Which employee has the nerve to ask her boss to work overtime with her?" Then he pinched her cheek. "Only you would dare."
Pride immediately spread across her face, looking utterly adorable.
Yu Xiangsi was truly working overtime, continuing to study the materials with great focus.
Having him by her side did not distract her; if anything, with her boss there, she could immediately ask questions and receive the best answers.
She was learning with great enthusiasm.
Yu Xiangsi came from a difficult background. Burdened by her family’s troubles, she had to work twice as hard as most.
But when God closes one door, He opens another.
Yu Xiangsi’s strength was her incredible learning ability. She had been an excellent student since childhood, admitted to the top-ranked B University nationwide—a feat even Qin Lang could not match.
Thanks to her sharp mind, over the past five years she had studied everything that could help her seek revenge: changing majors, learning darts, wine tasting, investigating the Qiao and Ji families, and continuing her studies.
For the past four years, she had averaged only four to five hours of sleep daily, rarely letting up.
Ji Jing was amazed by her capacity to absorb knowledge. And despite having such a handsome man beside her, she was still able to immerse herself fully in those dry materials.
Ji Jing began to doubt his own charm.
