Chapter 21: Entering the Village to Gather Evidence

Wu Yunqiu wasted no words and said, “Shinian, take note. At the next Standing Committee meeting, add an agenda item to dismiss Qian Dazhi, Party Secretary of Nanping Town.”
He Shinian responded promptly, “Yes, Secretary Wu.”
After speaking, Wu Yunqiu strode straight out.
At this moment, even with members of the county party committee present, Qian Dazhi was rattled.
Wu Yunqiu had been in Ninghai County for three months without making any major personnel moves.
Rumors outside said it was because she couldn’t control the Standing Committee, couldn’t contend with Sha’s faction led by County Magistrate Sha Junhai.
They also said that although Wu Yunqiu had military experience, she was just a woman’s army, incapable of stirring up big waves.
They claimed she was weak, unable to stand firm, lacking the demeanor a county party secretary should have.
But now, her sharp gaze and commanding presence were completely contrary to those rumors.
Qian Dazhi panicked.
Regarding the recent land transfers, the series of harsh tactics he used on the villagers—any slight investigation would reveal all of it was true.
If at the next Standing Committee meeting Wu Yunqiu used this as evidence, would Sha Junhai and his faction still protect Qian Dazhi?
Thinking of this, Qian Dazhi’s earlier arrogance vanished. He hurried outside and blocked Wu Yunqiu’s path.
“Wu... Secretary Wu, I was wrong. For all the years I’ve worked for Nanping Town, please give me one more chance. I won’t dare do it again. I swear it.”
He Shinian stood between him and Wu Yunqiu, preventing any rash actions.
“Qian Dazhi, those who do many unjust deeds will bring ruin upon themselves. Take care of yourself,” Wu Yunqiu said before walking away.
Qian Dazhi still wanted to stop her but was blocked by He Shinian.
“He Secretary, what are you doing?”
He Shinian said, “Secretary Qian, Secretary Wu has made her position clear. Please don’t persist in pestering her.”
Ignoring this, Qian Dazhi charged forward but was grabbed by his collar by He Shinian.
“Let go of me! Damn dog, get out of my way!”
Qian Dazhi struggled fiercely but could not break free.
“Wu Yunqiu, maybe my methods with the land transfer had problems, but at worst it’s just a party warning. On what grounds do you dismiss me? Do you think being county party secretary makes you so great?”
He Shinian’s expression darkened. “Qian Dazhi, you have been a town party secretary and have received years of party education. Watch your words.”
“I don’t give a damn! I...”
Smack—
He Shinian delivered a heavy slap across Qian Dazhi’s face.
Qian Dazhi was stunned, dizzy, and then blood flowed from his nose.

He hadn’t expected He Shinian to strike suddenly, leaving him seeing stars.
“Qian Dazhi, you were given chances. This slap is a lesson.”
“Damn you, you stinking secretary! How dare you hit me! Call for backup, Xiao Chen, quick, get people! I’m going to finish this brat today...”
Smack—
Another slap.
This time, He Shinian’s force was greater, swelling half of Qian Dazhi’s face.
Tears mixed with blood streamed down.
These two slaps from He Shinian made his stance toward Wu Yunqiu unmistakable.
Even though Qian Dazhi was Sha Junhai’s man, He Shinian firmly chose to stand with her.
Everyone was stunned but dared not move.
They exchanged glances and twitched their lips, none expecting He Shinian to be so formidable.
Wu Yunqiu stopped walking and turned around. “Qian Dazhi, he is my secretary, Wu Yunqiu’s secretary. Think carefully—if you lay a hand on him, can you bear the consequences?”
Qian Dazhi, still furious moments before, softened upon seeing Wu Yunqiu’s angry gaze.
Wu Yunqiu ignored him and asked, “Who is the town mayor of Nanping?”
A thin middle-aged man jogged over and bowed. “Secretary Wu, I am Mayor Li Chaoyang.”
Wu Yunqiu glanced him over and said, “From now on, you will take full charge of Nanping Town affairs, preside over all work, and handle the follow-up on the land transfers.”
“Can you handle it?”
Li Chaoyang shivered with excitement but stood at attention. “Please rest assured, Secretary Wu. I will complete the task.”
“Shinian, let’s go.”
After they left, Qian Dazhi collapsed to the ground, wiping blood from his nose and holding his swollen face, eyes full of resentment.
It was clear Wu Yunqiu was determined to take him down this time.
Thinking this through, he immediately returned to his office, closed the door, and dialed County Magistrate Sha Junhai’s number. “Magistrate Sha, you have to save me!”
...
Leaving Nanping Town, boarding the car, Wu Yunqiu took out a tissue and handed it to He Shinian.
“Wipe it off; you’ve got blood on you.”
He Shinian looked down to find spots of Qian Dazhi’s blood splattered on his clothes.
“Thanks, Sister Qiu.”
Wu Yunqiu smiled faintly, wanting to say, “You’re brave, I admire that,” but swallowed the words.

Back at the county party guesthouse, Wu Yunqiu secretly met with Organization Minister Yao Xianzhi.
The Organization Department handled cadres.
Without a doubt, it was related to Qian Dazhi.
Their conversation wasn’t long, only about twenty minutes.
He Shinian noticed Yao Xianzhi’s face was somewhat grave when he left.
As Wu Yunqiu tidied up, she said, “Shinian, why don’t you visit the villages again?”
He Shinian immediately understood. “Okay, Sister Qiu. Whatever the situation, I’ll report back... But if I go, what about your work?”
“No problem. I’m not helpless without a secretary. Go with peace of mind.”
He Shinian nodded. “Alright then.”
“I’ll have Fang Jie send you.”
“No need. The target is too big; I’m worried about alerting them.”
After eating, they left the guesthouse. After sending Wu Yunqiu back to the county party compound, He Shinian went home, showered, changed clothes, and took a voice recorder and video camera.
He rode his bicycle back toward Nanping Town.
Wu Yunqiu’s reason for sending He Shinian on another visit was clear.
She wanted to conclusively bring down Qian Dazhi with enough evidence to silence the Standing Committee.
Villagers’ testimony, recordings, and videos would be the strongest proof.
The land transfer involved three villages: Shangwei, Zhongwei, and Xiawei.
Following the route downward, the first stop was Xiawei Village.
Upon entering, He Shinian heard shouting not far ahead.
He quickened his pace and soon arrived just behind a crowd.
He saw a group of young men in plaid shirts with bleached blonde hair cornering villagers against a wall.
Some held wooden sticks, others steel pipes... one even brandished a foot-long watermelon knife.
Seeing this, He Shinian’s eyes sharpened. He immediately stopped, searched his phone, and made a call.
At that moment, the blonde man, cigarette dangling from his mouth, faced the villagers and cursed arrogantly.
“Who wrote the petition and who handed it to the county? I advise you to confess quickly, or I won’t mind seeing blood today.”
