What's going on? I haven't seen you in a few days, and suddenly I have a love rival?
Chen Fan’s Dormitory Building Eight was part of the women’s dormitory complex.
So he simply walked through Building Eight and arrived at Building Seven behind it.
He had already found out that the female freshmen majoring in Marketing lived in this building.
However, since he did not know anyone there, Chen Fan had no way to ask around.
All he could do was stand at the entrance and wait, hoping to run into Su Ruochu.
After waiting for quite some time without seeing her, Chen Fan instead found himself being stared at by every freshman who passed by, their eyes filled with curiosity.
This guy had come to the women’s dormitory on his very first day of college and was openly scanning every girl who walked past.
Was he really that desperate?
Before long, a piece of gossip had spread throughout Building Seven.
There was a male pervert standing at the entrance downstairs, specifically watching the girls who came out.
As a result, some of the girls who passed Chen Fan later instinctively covered their collars with their hands or shielded the hems of their skirts.
An hour later, the dormitory supervisor came out.
She scolded Chen Fan and told him to leave at once, warning that she would call security if he did not go.
Chen Fan gave her an awkward smile. “Auntie, I’m just looking for someone here.”
“My girlfriend is inside.”
The supervisor did not believe him in the slightest.
“Spare me that nonsense.”
“I’ve worked here for so many years. I’ve seen plenty of students like you.”
“I’m warning you: if you want to pursue a girl, be open and courageous about it. Don’t play these sneaky little tricks.”
“Leave now, or I really will call security.”
Chen Fan did not want to argue with her, so he could only shake his head with a bitter smile and turn away.
He had barely gone a few steps when he spotted Su Ruochu in the distance.
But the excitement on his face lasted only a few seconds before he froze.
There was someone standing beside Su Ruochu.
A tall, broad-shouldered young man.
From the way he was dressed, he was clearly not a freshman.
What was more, he was carrying a bag of fruit, obviously meant for Su Ruochu.
Seeing the two of them chatting and laughing together, Chen Fan was stunned.
What was going on?
It was only the second day of college, and he already had a rival in love?
Was someone trying to steal his girl?
Su Ruochu and the young man crossed the road and turned the corner without noticing Chen Fan on the opposite side.
Chen Fan could even see that she was laughing and chatting with the other man, clearly very familiar with him.
Chen Fan had intended to catch up and say hello, but while he hesitated, Su Ruochu had already waved goodbye to the young man and entered the dormitory building alone with the fruit.
Chen Fan stood where he was and watched the young man pump his fist excitedly before passing him, humming a tune.
To be honest, Chen Fan trusted Su Ruochu.
He knew her well. Given her character, she would absolutely never do anything like that.
But concern made a person irrational. Whenever something involved Su Ruochu, Chen Fan could not help becoming nervous.
One could never be too careful. What if, by some chance, something really was going on?

After hesitating for a while, Chen Fan glanced at the young man ahead and decided to follow him.
He watched the man enter Dormitory Building Ten before finally turning back.
As soon as he returned to the dormitory, Chen Fan grabbed Wu Di and asked, “Which department’s students live in Building Ten?”
“Building Ten?”
Wu Di thought for a moment.
“I think sophomores and juniors live there. They’re from our school, at least.”
Chen Fan stared at him. “Our school? The School of Economics and Management?”
“Yeah. Do you know someone over there?”
Wu Di asked curiously, “Speaking of which, Third Brother, which beauty have you set your sights on? Do you have a picture? Let us take a look.”
Chen Fan did not answer. He only looked puzzled.
How could Ruochu know a senior student?
That afternoon’s military training consisted of formation drills and standing at attention.
During the break, the instructor organized everyone into a round of call-and-response chants.
Soon, thunderous slogans echoed across the enormous field.
“Red flags fly, green flags fly—any boy who won’t sing is a useless guy!”
“The southeast wind blows, the war drums thunder. Who in our Seventh Company is afraid of whom?”
“Third Company, give us one! One, two, three, four, five—we’ve waited so hard for you…”
And so on.
The students were all grinning with excitement, but Chen Fan was distracted within the ranks.
After spending the entire afternoon looking around, he finally located Su Ruochu’s company.
Chen Fan’s class was in Third Company, while Su Ruochu was in Seventh Company. The two groups were quite far apart.
Several times, Su Ruochu lifted her head and looked around, though Chen Fan did not know whether she was searching for him.
At long last, the afternoon training ended. As soon as the formation was dismissed, Chen Fan planned to rush over to see Su Ruochu.
But Wu Di grabbed him.
“Stop running around. Let’s go eat. The counselor and instructor are coming to inspect the dormitories tonight.”
Chen Fan thought about it. There was no need to see Su Ruochu at that very moment.
Besides, the dormitory was acting as a group, and it would not be appropriate for him to skip out.
He therefore abandoned the idea and went to the cafeteria with his roommates.
A little after eight that evening, the counselor and the instructor arrived at Dormitory Building Eight.
The counselor for Chen Fan’s class was a very young man. Apparently, he had only recently graduated from a teachers’ university and become a new instructor.
Standing among Chen Fan and the others, he was almost indistinguishable from the students.
The advantage of a young teacher was that he was easygoing and easy to talk to.
After reading out the dormitory cleanliness regulations and the precautions for military training, the counselor asked the instructor to teach everyone how to organize their rooms.
They began in the washroom, where the instructor demonstrated how to arrange towels, cups, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
Then they returned to the dormitory. The instructor glanced around.
“Bring me a sleeping mat.”
Ma Xiaoshuai immediately pulled his mat off the bed.
“Now bring me a quilt.”

This time, Chen Fan was quick on the draw. Before anyone else could react, he pulled his own quilt from the bed and handed it over.
The instructor crouched down, explaining the technique as he folded the quilt into a neat square.
“Did you remember everything I just told you?”
After seeing several of them nod, the instructor stood up. He thought for a moment and was just about to mess up the quilt when Chen Fan swiftly stepped forward and discreetly slipped a prepared pack of cigarettes into his pocket.
“Heh heh, Instructor, you’ve worked hard. I’ll put the quilt away myself. No need to trouble yourself.”
The instructor glanced at Chen Fan, then suddenly gave him a meaningful smile.
He turned and left with the counselor, heading toward the next dormitory.
As soon as the instructor was gone, Chen Fan carefully lifted the quilt with both hands, raised it above his head, and ceremoniously placed it on his bed.
Seeing this, Ma Xiaoshuai was the first to react.
“Damn, Fourth Brother, that’s seriously not fair.”
“The instructor used my sleeping mat.”
“No way! From now on, you and I will each arrange this quilt for one day.”
Chen Fan took a blanket from the wardrobe.
“Women and quilts are both strictly off-limits to borrowers.”
Ma Xiaoshuai cursed with a laugh. “Believe me, I’ll mess up your quilt while you’re gone.”
Chen Fan immediately changed his tone.
“Xiaoshuai, we’re good boys. Don’t go learning from Second Brother.”
He had barely finished speaking when Luo Wenjie, standing on the balcony with a cigarette between his teeth, shouted excitedly.
“Hey, come take a look.”
“There’s a beauty changing clothes in the room on the right side of the fifth floor of the dormitory building opposite us.”
“Only a fool would believe you!” the others jeered from inside.
Luo Wenjie continued watching while waving frantically for them to come over.
“It’s true! Hurry up and look! She’s taking it off, she’s taking it off…”
Whoosh!
In less than a second, all five roommates had gathered and crowded behind Luo Wenjie.
“Where? I can’t see anything!” Sun Hao stretched his neck and looked around anxiously.
Wu Di shoved Sun Hao aside.
“You already have a girlfriend. Why are you joining in?”
With that, he snatched the binoculars from Luo Wenjie’s hands.
“Damn. If you had technology like this, why didn’t you bring it out sooner?”
“Remember to share the good stuff with your brothers in the future. I’ll let it slide this time. Otherwise, you’ll be doing math problems next time!”
He eagerly aimed the binoculars at the dormitory building opposite them.
“Which floor is it? Let me appreciate the scene with a properly critical eye…”
