Chapter 10: I Choose Chen Fan

“Hmm?”
Chen Fan was feeling frustrated when he suddenly noticed the notebook in front of him.
“What are you doing?”
Startled, Chen Fan quickly looked up.
He saw Su Ruochu staring intently at the podium, her expression clearly a bit tense.
Was she... deliberately passing me a note?
Suddenly, Chen Fan was exhilarated.
His earlier gloom vanished instantly.
His mood brightened like a clear sky.
Ruochu was taking the initiative to talk to me.
Ruochu cared about me.
Grinning foolishly, Chen Fan quickly wrote a sentence on the notebook and pushed it over.
“There's a rumor going around the class that I like you. To clarify, that’s not a rumor.”
Su Ruochu glanced down, her delicate face flushing instantly.
She gave Chen Fan a light, fleeting glance, her expression both coquettish and a little helpless.
That very expression.
Chen Fan felt as if he had been struck by electricity, suddenly floating.
Back in their past life when they were dating, whenever he did something that left Su Ruochu speechless, she liked to look at him with that look.
Playful charm mixed with a hint of “too lazy to expose you.”
Although Su Ruochu’s current expression lacked some of the gentle allure she would have a few years later, it carried a unique, charming cuteness.
Chen Fan’s heart nearly melted.
He hurriedly continued writing, “Alright, seriously now. I’m actually working hard for our future.”
Su Ruochu rolled her eyes but ignored his nonsense.
After a moment’s thought, she wrote one more sentence.
“Focus on the lesson. The college entrance exam is coming soon.”
Chen Fan’s lips curved slightly.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you. In this lifetime, I’ll only ever obey you.”
Su Ruochu seemed defeated by Chen Fan’s words.
Blushing, she put away the notebook, tore off the page, and tucked it into her pocket, too lazy to bother with this shameless guy.
But for the rest of the time, Chen Fan truly didn’t drift off; he focused on the lecture.
This behavior left Su Ruochu feeling indescribably pleased.
Chen Fan was actually listening to her, and that brought joy to her heart.
Moreover, her deskmate seemed to have undergone some strange change these days.
He was never this slick-tongued before, nor had he ever said such cheesy things to her.
“Could it really be because the college entrance exam is approaching?”
Su Ruochu attributed everything to the upcoming exam.
As the afternoon bell rang, Guo Shuai from the back row hurried over excitedly.
“Hey, didn’t you say you needed a computer this afternoon? I thought about it, and it just so happens I have one at home. Why don’t you come over?”
Chen Fan shook his head.
“No thanks. Your dad treats that computer like a treasure; you don’t even get to touch it. Besides, I can’t keep going over to your place every day…”
“No big deal. We’re brothers, aren’t we?”
“Good brothers are in the heart.”
“Forget it. Appreciate the offer. I’ll think of something else.”
Nearby, Su Ruochu glanced at Chen Fan, silently slung on her backpack, and headed out of the classroom.
Guo Fan winked at Chen Fan.
“So? Not chasing after her? Giving up already?”

Chen Fan laughed and scolded.
“You don’t know a thing. Wooing girls is hard work. I need a halftime break to make sure next time I strike true and win her over.”
“Give it up. I don’t think you two stand a chance.”
“Enough nonsense. Don’t forget the oath you made the other day. Better prepare your shit in advance. I’ll personally feed it to you when the time comes.”
“Get lost!”
The two bantered and laughed as they left the classroom, heading straight to the bike shed.
Unexpectedly, they ran into the class monitor, Huang Hu.
He blocked Su Ruochu’s path, apparently saying something.
Chen Fan hurried over.
“Su Ruochu, we’re heading home the same way. Why not walk together?”
Huang Hu smiled brightly.
“I just happened to be struggling with a few problems the teacher covered today and was about to ask you for help.”
Su Ruochu was about to speak but caught sight of Chen Fan; her expression flickered slightly.
Chen Fan quickly stepped forward, standing directly in front of Su Ruochu.
“You go ahead!”
Huang Hu frowned.
“Chen Fan, what do you mean by that?”
“Nothing.”
Chen Fan sneered coldly.
“Class monitor, don’t think I’m unaware of your intentions.”
“If you want to flirt, fine, but I warn you, stay away from Su Ruochu.”
“You…”
Exposed on the spot, Huang Hu’s face turned red with anger as he glared at Chen Fan.
“Who do you think you are?”
“What right do you have to meddle in my business with Su Ruochu?”
Chen Fan smiled faintly.
“I’m no one special, but I can tell you this: she’s mine.”
Those words made Su Ruochu tremble, a blush instantly coloring her cheeks.
Yet she said nothing in rebuttal.
Huang Hu scoffed.
“You must be dreaming.”
“Su Ruochu would never like someone like you.”
“Ruochu, he said you’re his girlfriend—is that true?”
Expressionless, Su Ruochu pushed her bike to leave.
“I don’t want to answer such a boring question.”
“Don’t go.”
Huang Hu quickly stepped forward to block her.
“Ruochu, since we’re already at this point, I’ll be straightforward.”
“I like you.”
“I originally planned to confess after the college entrance exam.”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
“I don’t want to.”
Su Ruochu rejected him without hesitation.
“Why?”
Huang Hu’s eyes widened, clearly hurt.
He never expected to be turned down.
“Don’t you really like Chen Fan?”
Su Ruochu glanced at Chen Fan and said coolly,
“That’s none of your business.”

Seeming stung by Su Ruochu’s attitude, his pride took a heavy blow.
Huang Hu found it hard to accept.
“Why?”
“Why did you reject me?”
“Am I not good enough?”
“At this school, only I deserve you. Besides, during the last math contest, I had a stomach ache, and you even went out of your way to buy me water and medicine, caring for me…”
Su Ruochu was speechless.
“Huang Hu, you’re overthinking.”
“I only see you as a classmate, nothing more.”
“If it were any other classmate, I would have done the same.”
“No way! I don’t believe it!”
Huang Hu shouted excitedly, “You must like me too, right?”
“Is it because they’re both here that you’re too embarrassed to admit it?”
Watching this guy break down like a child, Chen Fan couldn’t help but laugh.
What a character.
Someone who could be so narcissistic.
Clearly, he had zero experience with love and completely misunderstood Su Ruochu.
If Huang Hu kept going like this, he’d only make Su Ruochu hate him more.
Sure enough, Su Ruochu frowned.
But Huang Hu continued to shout excitedly.
“Okay. I’ll ask you one last time.”
“If you had to choose between me and Chen Fan to walk with you, who would you pick?”
“You better think carefully…”
“I choose Chen Fan!”
Huang Hu’s words abruptly stopped as he stared dumbfounded at Su Ruochu.
“I choose Chen Fan!”
She repeated firmly.
“Huang Hu, the college entrance exam is coming soon. You’d better focus your energy on studying.”
With that, she pushed her bike toward the school gate.
Chen Fan hurriedly followed, pushing his bike and turning to smile at Huang Hu.
“Thanks, man!”
He genuinely meant it.
If it weren’t for Huang Hu, how could he have gotten the chance to walk home with Su Ruochu?
Behind them, Guo Shuai grinned at the stunned Huang Hu, exaggeratedly waving his hand.
“Strange, there’s a nasty smell like it’s coming from a toilet. Did someone fall in?”
Hearing this, Huang Hu shuddered, instinctively looking down at his hands.
Seeing them clean, he suddenly looked up sharply at Guo Shuai, who was already cycling away.
“You bastard!”
“So you were behind what happened at the internet café last time!”
Huang Hu’s eyes turned fierce and venomous.
“Chen Fan, just you wait!”
