With one of the servants leading the way, a middle-aged man hurried toward the pavilion.
Two more servants followed behind him, carrying a wooden board. Lying upon it was Bai Feng, whose hand and leg tendons had been severed by Ye Xiao, while his core had been crippled.
Upon reaching the pavilion, the man did not enter. Instead, he stopped at the foot of the steps and bowed respectfully to Mu Bai.
“I am Bai Zizai. Greetings, Young Master Mu.”
Mu Bai set down the wine cup in his hand. Gone was his earlier foolishly playful manner; he smiled and said, “Patriarch Bai, what brings you here?”
The corner of Bai Zizai’s mouth twitched. If he had not come, the Bai family would probably have been finished.
“Young Master Mu, I have just learned that my son offended you. I brought him here to apologize. I hope you will be magnanimous and spare him.”
Mu Bai held the wine cup without drinking. He merely watched Bai Zizai. Only when cold sweat had begun to bead across the latter’s forehead did he speak.
“Do you know why he offended me?”
Bai Zizai’s face filled with terror. Naturally, he knew the reason—but how could he possibly say it aloud?
Thus, he could only lower his head in trepidation and remain silent.
Mu Bai smiled. “He actually took an interest in my fiancée. Tell me, what do you think I should do?”
At his words, Han Qi blushed. Mu Bai had just acknowledged her status before everyone, and Mu Xue watched her from the side with open delight.
Unlike Han Qi’s joy, Bai Zizai looked as though his mother had died. His expression was indescribably grim. He had never expected Mu Bai to state the matter so bluntly.
Seeing that Bai Zizai remained silent, Mu Bai was in no hurry. He simply drank his wine at his leisure.
Ye Xiao, too, stared at him in astonishment. He had never imagined that his usually unreliable senior brother possessed such a side.
After a long while, Bai Zizai gritted his teeth and fell to his knees with a thud.
“Young Master Mu! Please be magnanimous and spare my Bai family!”
Having said that, he immediately struck his head against the ground three times, each blow echoing loudly.
Mu Bai set down his wine cup and gazed at Bai Zizai, who was prostrate on the ground.
A moment later, he rose and walked over. Without sparing Bai Zizai a glance, he instead crouched beside Bai Feng.
Bai Feng lay upon the wooden board, his face ashen and his eyes carrying a trace of fear.
Mu Bai smiled.
“If you don’t possess the ability, then don’t imitate others by putting on a show.”
As he spoke, he reached out and patted Bai Feng’s pale cheek.
“You’re lucky to have such a good father.”
With that, he stood and walked back toward the pavilion.
When he passed Bai Zizai, he paused briefly.
“Enough. Get lost. Don’t disturb me while I’m drinking.”
Bai Zizai breathed a sigh of relief. He hurriedly rose and bowed.
“Thank you, Young Master Mu! Thank you, Young Master Mu!”

Afterward, he did not dare delay any longer. He had Bai Feng carried away and quickly departed.
Once they were gone, Du Mao spoke with a grin. “I have to admit, Mu Bai, you looked quite impressive just now!”
Ye Xiao nodded as well.
Even Zhuge Lingyun, who was standing nearby, could not help uttering something astonishing.
“What an obnoxious rich heir.”
The others froze for a moment, then burst into laughter.
…
At the same time, at the Bai residence—
Bai Feng was lying in bed. The fear had vanished from his eyes, replaced by overwhelming hatred.
“Father! Are you really going to let this go?”
Bai Zizai sat beside the bed, his expression equally gloomy.
“What else do you want me to do?” Bai Zizai roared. Looking at his only son lying on the bed, his mood was utterly foul. “I warned you long ago to stay away from that girl from the Han family, but you refused to listen!”
Bai Feng opened his mouth, but did not know what to say. How could he have known he would encounter a madman like Ye Xiao?
If Mu Bai had acted personally today, things certainly would not have ended so badly.
Even if Mu Bai had been able to defeat him, he would never have beaten him to this extent.
Families like theirs did not usually fight to the death. That was why Bai Feng had acted without fear.
He had never expected to encounter someone as reckless and unprincipled as Ye Xiao.
“But—I can’t swallow this anger!”
Bai Zizai glanced at him coldly and sneered. “Even if you can’t swallow it, you must.”
“But…”
“That’s enough!” Bai Zizai said coldly.
Yet when he saw the miserable state his son was in, his heart softened somewhat. After a long silence, he continued, “We naturally cannot touch Mu Bai. But the man who injured you? I never said I would let him off.”
Killing intent glimmered in Bai Zizai’s eyes.
Bai Feng’s eyes lit up. In truth, he had never intended to go after Mu Bai.
But Ye Xiao was another matter. He was not afraid of him.
“Father! What do you plan to do?”
Bai Zizai rose and paced back and forth across the room. After a moment, he looked at Bai Feng and asked, “Have you been in contact recently with the young sect master of the Xuanhuang Sect?”
Bai Feng nodded. “Indeed. That young sect master is actually very interested in the Mu family.”
A cold smile appeared on Bai Zizai’s face. “The Mu family? Then we have something to discuss.”
“Father, just tell me what to do. I’ll follow your orders.”
Bai Zizai gave a cold laugh, then sat down beside the bed again and whispered a few words. Bai Feng’s eyes suddenly shone brightly.
“Good! We’ll do exactly that!”
After speaking, Bai Feng seemed to remember something, and the light in his eyes faded once more.
“But, Father… even if we kill that man, what about my body?”
His hand and leg tendons had been severed. Although recovery would be extremely troublesome, it was not entirely hopeless. The most important thing was his core.
Once the core was shattered, restoring it was no simple matter.
Bai Zizai patted Bai Feng and said quietly, “Don’t worry. I heard that Grandmaster Gu Chen is in Nightwind City to the east. As long as he is willing to act, he will certainly be able to resolve your problem.”
Bai Feng’s eyes widened.
“Gu Chen? The very same Gu Chen who is known as the Pill King?”
Bai Zizai nodded. “That’s right. They say that Gu Chen was once a cripple himself and was even driven from his family home. Who could have imagined that he would eventually become the Pill King whose name shakes the entire continent?”
At that moment, Bai Feng could no longer suppress the smile on his face.
“Father, then hurry and go!”
The thought of recovering filled him with indescribable excitement.
Bai Zizai rose and nodded. “For now, rest properly at home. Since Gu Chen is the Pill King, your father will have to go personally.”
Bai Feng nodded furiously. “Father, I understand. Hurry and go!”
…
At the same time, Ye Xiao was staring at Zhuge Lingyun in surprise.
“The Pill King, Gu Chen?”
Ye Xiao asked.
Zhuge Lingyun nodded. “That’s right. Your sister’s condition may not necessarily require an immortal bone. However, this Pill King’s abilities are extraordinary. He might have a way.”
After hearing this, excitement appeared on Ye Xiao’s face.
As long as there was a chance to save his sister, he would naturally be eager to try.
“Where is this Pill King now?”
Zhuge Lingyun glanced at Ye Xiao and replied indifferently, “Nightwind City.”
