Chapter 35: A Group of Watchers

After leaving Old Jiangnan, Guan Sheng took out his phone and called the Black Eagle King.
Ten minutes later, a black Rolls-Royce accompanied by two black SUVs came to a stop nearby.
The Black Eagle King hurried over and dropped to one knee before Guan Sheng. “Master Guan.”
Guan Sheng’s expression was grave. “Did you find the information I asked you to investigate yesterday?”
The Black Eagle King nodded. “We’ve gathered nearly ninety-nine percent of the available information. All of Miss Yuyan’s major life events have been specially marked.”
“Get in.” Guan Sheng climbed into the Rolls-Royce.
As he recalled what Li Yuyan had said to him at the corporation the day before, faint emotions stirred within him—something different from anger.
Others called it guilt.
He remembered the first time he had met Li Yuyan, when he had held a knife to her throat. Sometimes, even Guan Sheng wondered whether he had gone too far.
But if he had not used a knife, what else could he have done?
How was a man supposed to marry a woman?
His master had said that only Li Yuyan could unlock the heart he had kept sealed for so long.
Wait… his heart…
Guan Sheng suddenly remembered something. “There’s one more thing I nearly forgot to tell that old man.”
Muttering to himself, he immediately opened the car door and stepped out again. Turning back to the Black Eagle King, he said, “Wait here.”
“Yes, Master Guan.”
After giving the order, Guan Sheng quickly headed back toward Old Jiangnan.
Before long, from several dozen yards away, he saw Elder Ji emerge from the hotel with his female secretary.
Just as Guan Sheng was about to quicken his pace, a faint trace of energy suddenly caught his attention.
Guan Sheng raised an eyebrow and stopped. The pores across his body opened involuntarily. It was an instinct honed through years of walking along the edge of the blade.
Someone was watching this place!
The other party had concealed their presence exceptionally well.
Were they watching him?
Or…
Were they watching that old man?
Guan Sheng looked toward Elder Ji while his peripheral vision rapidly swept across the entire area.
Leaves trembled slightly in a certain tree.
A flash of white light reflected from one of the surrounding buildings.
Pedestrians who seemed to be passing by the area without a care.
That was it…
This was the feeling of being watched.
And their target was Elder Ji!
Guan Sheng said coldly, “Making your move right under my nose?”

“Heh!”
“Old man, you’re going to owe me one this time.”
The moment he finished speaking, Guan Sheng’s figure blurred, and he vanished from where he stood.
Only a few minutes later, a figure suddenly fell from a towering tree and landed directly in front of Elder Ji.
Zhang Qingyu was horrified. She immediately drew her black pistol and stepped in front of Elder Ji, aiming the muzzle at the masked man.
Then—
On top of a nearby building, a man whose arms had been broken was thrown from the roof. He crashed to the ground, his body shattered and his breath gone.
And…
A passerby sitting by the roadside, whose gaze had repeatedly drifted toward Elder Ji, had his throat slit in a single stroke.
A driver waiting for passengers, his vehicle marked as temporarily unavailable, had not even had time to make a move before he stopped breathing.
And there were many more…
The sudden turn of events put Zhang Qingyu’s nerves on edge. She watched the surroundings warily, keeping Elder Ji firmly behind her.
Elder Ji had secretly left the capital this time without any security detail. If anything happened, they would receive no effective support.
Fortunately, after the first man landed in front of them, nothing else seemed amiss.
Just as Zhang Qingyu was beginning to relax, a voice came from beside her.
“If that’s the extent of your reaction speed, this old man will sooner or later end up dead behind you.”
“Who is it?” Zhang Qingyu hurriedly turned around. Before she could swing the muzzle toward him, someone snatched the pistol from her hand.
When Elder Ji saw who it was, the worry vanished from his face. “Boy, you changed your mind that quickly?”
Zhang Qingyu let out a sigh of relief. “So it was you.”
“You scared me to death…”
Guan Sheng returned the pistol to her. “As this old man’s personal bodyguard, you still have a lot to practice.”
“You need to pay attention to what’s behind you.”
“And to the places you cannot see.”
Elder Ji’s expression tightened. “Boy, are you saying—”
Guan Sheng pointed to the unconscious young man before them, then indicated several other areas and directions.
“Send people to take those men away at once. Investigate them thoroughly. You may find something.”
“Old man, didn’t you say your movements were highly confidential? How did someone still manage to watch you?”
“Watch me?” Elder Ji was stunned.
Zhang Qingyu frowned. “We were being watched?”
“Elder Ji…”
Elder Ji waved a hand. “There’s a problem within our own ranks. Investigate every person in the courtyard compound immediately.”
“Yes.”
Zhang Qingyu nodded, then hurriedly took out her phone and sent a message.

What Guan Sheng did not know was that his intervention had directly caused every informant planted by several major forces in the capital to collapse.
Zhang Qingyu asked, “Elder Ji, were those the people?”
Elder Ji gave a cold snort. “They’ve truly become lawless.”
Guan Sheng asked, “Old man, who wants you dead?”
“Do you need my help?”
“Just pay me. Though my price is a little steep.”
Elder Ji smiled despite himself. “Forget it. What little I have saved for my coffin wouldn’t be enough to hire you. Perhaps in the next life.”
Guan Sheng pointed toward Old Jiangnan. “Since you helped me today, I’ll give you a twenty-percent discount. Fifty million dollars will do.”
“Of course, that’s fifty million dollars per life.”
Looking at Guan Sheng’s earnest expression, Elder Ji genuinely felt tempted to pay him for a moment. But when he thought of the strength possessed by those people, he sighed.
“Forget it.”
“You’d be better off having nothing to do with that group.”
“That group? Which group?” Guan Sheng asked.
Elder Ji said unhappily, “A bunch of fools chasing impossible dreams and hoping to become immortals.”
“Xiaozhang, once we return to the capital, call those youngsters over. The regulations governing martial artists need to be revised again. Otherwise, there will always be some reckless youths bold enough to cross the line.”
“They really think that earning my favor will let them rise to the heavens in a single step.”
“Martial artists?”
Those two words immediately caught Guan Sheng’s attention.
When he had been slaughtering his way across foreign lands, he had heard the term before. At the time, a Dark Night King had even demanded to know whether he was the legendary martial artist from the East.
He had not thought much of it then. But hearing those words from Elder Ji now made him take notice.
“What is a martial artist? Are they very powerful?” Guan Sheng asked.
Elder Ji smiled faintly. “I’ll tell you if you agree to do something for me.”
Guan Sheng rolled his eyes. “Then forget it.”
“Besides, whoever provokes me, I’ll simply cut them down.”
Elder Ji patted him on the shoulder. “There is always a higher heaven beyond the heavens, and always someone stronger than yourself. Guan Sheng, have you ever considered that there may be people in this world stronger than you?”
Guan Sheng knocked his hand away. “Impossible.”
Elder Ji changed the subject. “Enough. Tell me—what brings you back to see me?”
Guan Sheng turned around and left him with a single sentence.
“I remember leaving the Dragon Kingdom when I was a child.”
“I recalled a fragment of my past. In that memory, my entire family was dead, and every one of them bore the same tiger tattoo.”
“Old man, help me investigate my background.”
