Chapter 19: Why Won't You Obey?
Such speed was no ordinary feat.
If an average person encountered this scene, they would surely be so frightened their legs would give way. But he was Guan Sheng—he feared none of them. In fact, he felt a certain thrill gripping his long blade.
Yet, unexpectedly, just as Guan Sheng was about to strike and swiftly eliminate these unknown assassins—
A sudden “plop” echoed.
The twelve formidable assassins instantly dropped to their knees, clasping their hands respectfully toward Guan Sheng.
“Greetings, Lord Guan.”
Their voices were uniform, tinged with unmistakable fear.
At that moment, Guan Sheng narrowed his eyes slightly and looked ahead. There, on the street, were five luxurious Rolls-Royces parked. Soon after, a middle-aged man led over thirty underlings swiftly toward them.
When the man reached Guan Sheng’s side, Guan Sheng finally recognized the face.
Compared to their meeting years ago, it now bore the marks of time—weathered, more imposing, and notably prosperous.
“King Black Eagle, greetings, Lord Guan.”
The visitor was none other than the infamous and terrifying figure of the Jiangnan underworld—King Black Eagle!
Guan Sheng had not expected to encounter this man tonight.
Sheathing his long blade, he spoke coldly, “You have disturbed me.”
King Black Eagle broke into a cold sweat and immediately motioned for retreat.
The twelve assassins and all the men behind him promptly dispersed, disappearing from Guan Sheng’s sight.
After his men left, King Black Eagle knelt on one knee before Guan Sheng.
Seeing him bow his head, Guan Sheng sat coldly on the bench, his voice low and commanding: “Speak. What brings you to me?”
King Black Eagle clasped his hands and reported, “I come to beg your pardon. I did not know Li Yuyan was the woman you sought. My men offended you, and I acknowledge my fault.”
“Rest assured, the last surviving assassin is dead. No one but me will know your identity.”
Upon hearing this, Guan Sheng smirked disdainfully. “You’re quite sensible. Anything else?”
King Black Eagle replied, “I have two matters to report.”
“First, capturing Li Yuyan was not my intention. A noble in Longdu offered one billion yuan for the task. The client’s status is high; I could not refuse at first.”
“But once you arrived, I immediately declined and returned the one billion yuan.”
This revelation sparked a murderous gleam in Guan Sheng’s eyes.
A noble from Longdu offering one billion to capture Li Yuyan?
So someone was trying to steal my wife?
Guan Sheng asked coldly, “Who is this person?”
King Black Eagle shook his head. “Only that they are a noble. The one who sent me was a warrior of considerable rank. I dared not refuse. Judging by the situation, likely a big shot in the Ministry of War.”
Guan Sheng nodded, committing it silently to memory: anyone daring to vie for his wife would die.
They’d better not show up before him.

The moment they appeared, they’d fall one by one to his blade.
“Any other information?” Guan Sheng asked impatiently.
King Black Eagle paused, then answered, “Reporting, Lord Guan, when I arrived in Jiang City, my men received a contract. Someone anonymously placed a one million yuan bounty in the underworld to kill you.”
“Who?” Guan Sheng asked sharply.
“Still investigating. The client used an anonymous account,” King Black Eagle replied.
“Keep searching. Inform me if you find anything.”
“Yes, Lord Guan.” Upon hearing this, King Black Eagle felt a surge of excitement.
He knew he could now stay by Guan Sheng’s side to serve.
Before he could react, a gentle tap landed on his shoulder.
Guan Sheng said calmly, “These two pieces of news aren’t bad. You handle things well.”
“I’ve just returned to Longguo and need a few capable people to assist me.”
“You’re it.”
Hearing this, King Black Eagle’s face lit up as he nodded enthusiastically.
“It’s my honor to serve at Lord Guan’s side.”
“Call on me anytime; I’m at your service.”
“From today on, all forces in Jiang City and the entire Jiangnan underworld will obey your orders.”
—
A night passed with various disturbances.
Early the next morning, before Li Yuyan could wake naturally, her phone rang persistently.
Groggily, she opened her eyes and put the phone to her ear.
“Hello?”
On the other end came her father Li Feng’s anxious voice.
“Yuyan, where... where are you?”
Li Yuyan woke fully. “What’s wrong, Dad?” She looked around.
Seeing the cold takeaway boxes on the table, she recalled.
“I worked late last night and overslept.”
“Dad, what happened?”
On the other end, Li Feng, having just learned the Li family was expelled from the Jiangnan Chamber of Commerce, spoke anxiously.
“Something serious, Yuyan.”
“Our Li family was kicked out of the Jiangnan Chamber of Commerce early this morning.”
“What?” Li Yuyan’s expression changed drastically.
The Jiangnan Chamber of Commerce was a circle of business magnates.
Those admitted were usually renowned enterprises within Jiangnan, each worth at least five billion yuan, with abundant connections and resources.
Founded by Mr. Tang Haofeng, a man of unfathomable means reputed to have powerful contacts in the capital, the Chamber held supreme status in Jiangnan.

The Old Jiangnan private restaurant in Jiang City was his venue for entertaining guests.
All the noble families of Jiangnan regarded entry into the Chamber as a symbol of status.
For these high society elites, joining the Chamber meant stepping halfway into the upper echelon and gaining access to the most influential figures.
By the Chamber’s standards, the Li family did not qualify initially, but thanks to the merits and prestige of Grandfather Li, they were admitted.
As Grandfather Li aged and retired, his influence waned, and the Li family’s position in Jiang City gradually diminished in both overt and subtle ways.
Without the Chamber membership, the Li family would have declined years ago.
Now, being expelled was nothing short of a disaster.
Li Yuyan could hardly believe it.
“Dad, how... how could this happen?”
“What exactly happened?”
Li Feng sighed and hesitated. “I heard... I heard that last night, Young Master Qi went to Old Jiangnan and beat up the Xu family’s men.”
Young Master Qi...
Li Yuyan almost didn’t react, realizing it must mean Guan Sheng.
Guan Sheng went to Old Jiangnan and beat up the Xu family’s heir?
This!
She recalled giving Guan Sheng a VIP card for Old Jiangnan to get in.
How could this happen?
If it was truly because of him that this mess occurred, Grandfather would never let it go.
Moreover, with the Li family expelled from the Chamber, their charitable foundation group would surely head toward bankruptcy; her dreams... would be shattered.
“Yuyan, Yuyan, are you listening?” Li Feng urged.
Li Yuyan sat there, dazed, a faint ache stirring deep within her heart.
“I’m here, Dad.”
“What do we do now?”
Li Feng’s voice was grave. “I don’t know either. Your grandfather has lost his temper and convened all the Li family at the old residence for a meeting.”
“I’m going too. Get ready and be there within half an hour. Remember to bring Young Master Qi.”
After saying this, Li Feng hung up.
At that moment, the office door opened.
Guan Sheng entered, carrying packaged breakfast.
“Wife, you’re awake?”
Hearing his voice, tears welled in Li Yuyan’s eyes. A crystal drop fell slowly down her cheek.
“Guan Sheng, I told you to call me immediately if anything happened. Why... why didn’t you listen?”
