Chapter 59: President Wang Becomes Little Wang
As they approached Azure Lake Twin Palaces, Zhao Hui realized the route was wrong. "Are you going the wrong way? The place you live isn't in this direction!"
"I moved!"
"Moved?" Zhao Hui was stunned. Not long ago when he came to visit, she was still living at Hairun Mansion.
While he was still dazed, the car was automatically recognized and passed through the residential complex's security gates. The moment they entered, Zhao Hui felt as though his eyes were blinded by sheer opulence.
If Azure Lake Twin Palaces were compared to his own resettlement housing complex, the gap between them was at least ten Lake-Sea Manors.
And if compared to Lake-Sea Manor itself? That became a pure mathematical problem: ignoring the resettlement complex entirely, there was still a deficit of nine Lake-Sea Manors.
"Is... isn't the rent for apartments in here extremely high?"
"I don't know!" Zhao Xiangjun replied truthfully. She genuinely had no idea if any units here were rented out to the public, let alone what the rental prices might be.
Zhao Hui assumed she was just upset and deliberately pretending not to know. How could anyone possibly not know the rent for the apartment they were leasing themselves?
Entering the underground parking garage, he found it bright, grand, clean, and meticulously neat—clearly on an entirely different level from Lake-Sea Manor.
"Good grief, even the parking garage is built to look this magnificent!"
He had never witnessed such a majestic parking garage and was genuinely awestruck.
Zhao's father and mother also looked like Grandma Liu entering the Grand View Garden. If their impression of Lake-Sea Manor had been quite favorable, then Azure Lake Twin Palaces struck them as overwhelmingly luxurious and noble!
Zhao Xiangjun led them up in the elevator. Looking at the elevator and remembering how he had praised the high-end elevator at Lake-Sea Manor earlier, Zhao Hui felt thoroughly ashamed of himself.
The true shock, however, came after they stepped inside Zhao Xiangjun's apartment.
"Oh my god, is this an imperial palace?"
Zhao's father and mother were shocked into speechlessness, standing frozen at the threshold, not daring to step inside for fear of soiling the pristine rooms.
Zhao Xiangjun retrieved a few pairs of unused slippers for them to change into. "Mom, Dad, come on in. Why are you just standing there?"
Zhao Hui rushed into the apartment, wishing he had more than two eyes to take it all in. Everywhere his gaze fell was pure luxury. He thought to himself, "No wonder she looked down on Wang Hao's place! Once you've seen this, looking at that other place is like looking at a mud-hen's nest!"
Without waiting for Zhao Xiangjun's permission, he started walking deeper inside to take a tour. Zhao Xiangjun hurriedly stepped forward to tell him that he couldn't enter the bedrooms because they contained personal items.
The main reason was that Chen Xiao's pajamas had been left lying around in the bedroom.
After checking the second bedroom and the study, Zhao Hui came out completely at a loss for words. Only one thought echoed in his mind: "To live just one night in a house like this—one lifetime would truly be complete!"
The interior decoration was overwhelmingly lavish. Many of the brands were unfamiliar to him, but judging purely by their appearance and texture, they were undeniably priceless. Thinking back on Wang Hao's apartment, even he himself was beginning to look down on it.
At that moment, his phone rang. He picked it up to see it was Wang Hao, and only then did he remember that Wang Hao had been trailing behind them in another car. Once inside, he had been so mesmerized by the apartment that he had completely banished Wang Hao to the outer reaches of the cosmos!
"Brother Hui, I can't get in! The guards won't let me pass. I told them I came in following the car in front, but they said if I'm a visitor, the homeowner needs to call them to authorize it!"
"Ah, Haozi, why don't you just go take care of whatever business you have, and we can talk later..."
Wang Hao: "..."
Little did he know that Zhao Hui, having now witnessed the "wider world," had suddenly grown somewhat dismissive of him.
Zhao's father and mother also wandered around the apartment before returning with troubled expressions. "Xiangjun, an apartment this nice—how much must the rent be?"
Zhao Hui was equally curious about how his younger sister could possibly afford to rent such a magnificent place.
"There is no rent. This is my own apartment!"
"..." The three of them froze, staring at her blankly for a full thirty seconds before speaking in unison: "How is that possible?"
Even renting a place like this would be a stretch for a sales guide, let alone owning it outright.
Zhao Xiangjun laid her cards on the table directly. "I'm in a relationship. This apartment was bought by my boyfriend!"
Both parents wore expressions of utter disbelief. Buying an apartment for his girlfriend just like that? And they weren't even married yet!
For the first time in his life, Zhao Hui regretted not being a woman and lamented why he never encountered such incredible luck.
He didn't realize that with his personality, even if he were a woman, Chen Xiao probably wouldn't spare him a second glance.
After a few minutes, the group finally recovered from their shock. Zhao Father asked, "This apartment couldn't have been cheap, right? Did he pay a down payment, and are you two paying off the mortgage together?"
In their worldview, the male party paying the down payment while the couple split the mortgage already sounded unimaginable—especially since this apartment was so extraordinarily luxurious!
"No mortgage. This apartment was bought with full payment upfront."
Once again, the three of them fell completely silent... If anyone had been paying close attention, they would have noticed Zhao Hui's lips trembling.
"How much did this place cost?! It was bought with full cash, and is it just for you to live in, or did he put your name on the deed as well?"
"9.3 million. He used my ID to buy it, and the deed is in my name. I didn't know about it when he bought it, otherwise I wouldn't have let him buy it!"
What she genuinely meant was that one property for Chen Xiao to live in was enough; buying two was truly wasteful.
However, translated through the ears of her family members, it carried an entirely different meaning!
My dear girl, thank goodness you didn't know at the time, otherwise you would have suffered a massive loss! And to think you'd actually consider turning down someone offering you an apartment—if you don't want it, give it to me!
Zhao Hui was filled with resentment.
9.3 million! And with both of their names on it—well, legally speaking, the portion belonging solely to Zhao Xiangjun was worth 4.65 million! How much money was that? It could buy four apartments in his own resettlement complex!
To this day, he still didn't dare to fully comprehend that this fortune belonged exclusively to Zhao Xiangjun.
At that moment, his phone rang again. Checking the screen, he saw it was still Wang Hao. He walked over to the edge of the study to answer it, sounding thoroughly impatient. "What is it?"
"Brother Hui, can I actually get in or not? Didn't you say you'd let me come up and meet Xiangjun again?"
Zhao Hui replied in a somewhat dismissive tone, "Little Wang, you should just head back first. My sister—well, perhaps the two of you aren't really a good match after all. Let's just leave it at that, I've got things to take care of here!"
With that, he hung up the phone. Wang Hao stood outside alone, utterly bewildered. Over the course of a single day, his title had degraded from "President Wang" to "Haozi," and finally down to "Little Wang."
From enthusiastic warmth to icy indifference—Wang Hao felt his heart shatter. His happiness seemed utterly out of reach.
Zhao Hui had no time to worry about him now. He turned to Zhao Xiangjun and asked, "Xiangjun, does my brother-in-law usually come over?"
Noticing the total absence of men's items in the rooms, he deduced that his sister must be living here alone.
Zhao's father and mother were also eager to lay eyes on their daughter's boyfriend.
Zhao Xiangjun thought for a moment. Chen Xiao hadn't mentally prepared for this today, and meeting them now would be far too abrupt, so she said, "It's so late, he's definitely not coming over!"
She was reluctant to let her family know the exact depth of her relationship with Chen Xiao, mostly out of embarrassment.
Zhao Hui immediately chimed in, "Then you should find some time to bring my brother-in-law over to the house for a visit, make it official!"
Zhao Xiangjun protested, "Can you stop calling him 'brother-in-law' already? We've barely even started!"
Zhao Hui scoffed and said, "You don't understand. Let me tell you something: there are plenty of men who are all talk when it comes to being willing to spend money, but very few who are actually willing to part with it."
"Take a family like Wang Hao's—they're the kind of people who won't scatter the hawk until they see the rabbit. They only hand over the betrothal gifts and provide an apartment after you're already married, and the crucial part is that the apartment is still under Wang Hao's name alone!"
"Before things are settled, he didn't even treat me to a single meal. Where on earth would you find someone like my brother-in-law, who hands you half of an apartment like this before anything is even confirmed?!"
