Chapter 40: This Person Is Not Proactive at All
It was not until Zhao Xiangjun got into Chen Xiao’s car and opened the window to greet her that she snapped out of her daze. She glanced at the young, handsome man in the driver’s seat, then looked back at the Qin L and her own boyfriend, who already looked world-weary.
Sigh! Heaven is truly so unfair.
"Chen Xiao, did you skip work to come here today?"
Usually, by the time he got off work, she would have already finished cooking dinner at home. He must have left early today, well before his shift ended!
"What do you mean, skip work? I’m the top sales performer. Does a top performer leaving early count as skipping work?"
"Pfft! Shameless!" She was a completely different person when she was with him, always enjoying verbal sparring.
"Zhao Xiangjun, are you asking for a spanking?" he feigned anger.
"You crowned yourself the top sales performer; aren't you embarrassed?"
"It’s a fact. I closed a 12-million order this morning and picked up another 4 million in side business!"
"Fine, then why didn't you stay at the company a bit longer to let your boss shower you with praise?"
"Am I that shallow of a person?"
"When you’re being shallow, you don't even seem like a person, alright?"
"..."
The two were used to bickering; they couldn't stop whenever they saw each other.
"By the way, Xiangjun, you have a driver’s license, right?"
"I do, why? I’m almost due for a renewal!"
Since a C1 license requires renewal every six years, she meant she had held it for six years already.
"Have you driven at all since leaving driving school?"
Zhao Xiangjun replied, "I don't have a car, where would I drive?"
"So, you basically handed your money over to the driving school for nothing."
She asked, confused, "What do you mean?"
"You just got a license, but you’ve returned all your skills to the instructor!"
"Hmph! I don't want to talk to you!"

The car drove into Bihu Shuangxi. The high-end residential complex was incomparable to the apartment complex at Hairun Mansion; the underground garage was much brighter and tidier, and the parking spaces were impressively spacious.
The car pulled up outside their building entrance. His parking spots were right next to the elevator lobby, with two spots allocated to each unit.
At that moment, a purple Zhijie R7 was parked in one of his spots. This was the top-tier model gifted by the system. He had seen this car at Ganglong International, where it cost 350,000 to get on the road. What mattered most was the configuration and craftsmanship, which made even Chen Xiao, who drove a Mercedes CLS, envious. It was truly a quality standard that rivaled traditional million-dollar luxury cars.
With its intelligent cockpit, autonomous driving, active and passive safety features, and comprehensive collision prevention systems, it was a flawless, all-around performer.
"Xiangjun, I have a task for you!"
She turned to look at him, her face full of questions.
"Hurry up and recover those lost memories of yours—learn basic driving skills!"
"You... you really can't let this driving thing go, can you? I don't drive, so why would I learn?"
He reached into the center console, pulled out the key, handed it to her, and pointed at the Zhijie R7. "See that? That’s your car!"
"…What kind of madness has possessed you?"
This man’s train of thought was different from everyone else’s. If it were any other woman, wouldn't she be overjoyed, throwing herself at him with a kiss for giving her such a big toy?
"You commute every day; having a car to get around will save you from the wind and the sun!"
"I haven't driven in years, and the wind hasn't blown me away yet!"
He decided not to argue with her; they could go on forever. Regardless, the car was hers now; he would just have to keep an eye on her and make sure she practiced later.
This car was perfect for her. It featured end-to-end intelligent driving, capable of autonomous parking from spot to spot. She only needed to know the basics; the car could practically drive itself.
They took the elevator upstairs. Their two apartments were on the third floor; the garden houses at Bihu Shuangxi were all seven-story layouts.
Throughout the trip, Zhao Xiangjun remained calm, showing not a hint of excitement, which left Chen Xiao feeling like his efforts had gone unappreciated.
He pushed open the door to reveal a four-bedroom apartment with a modern, light luxury aesthetic—it was very tasteful.
The entrance opened into a perfectly square living room. The furniture set was entirely Fendi, conservatively estimated at one million, and the carpets were wool and silk—modern and luxurious.
Walking onto the balcony to look out, the lake and sky merged in the distance, while lush trees shaded the area nearby. Being there felt like being in heaven on earth.
The beds in the bedrooms were also Fendi. Chen Xiao lay down on one to get a feel for it; the way it cradled him made him not want to get up. Sleeping here would certainly elevate his quality of rest by several levels.
He asked Zhao Xiangjun to lie down and try it, but she only rolled her eyes. As she followed him around, looking at everything, she didn't seem like the owner of the house at all, but rather an outsider.
They also checked the study; the large mahogany desk and the office environment were far superior to Feng Feifei’s.

This was Zhao Xiangjun’s apartment, and he then took her to see his own. Having secured both, it felt like the entire third floor was their own private world.
The decor and furniture in his place were almost identical to hers. The only difference was that the system had fully stocked his living supplies, while hers were empty.
He had a ready explanation for this: living supplies were a matter of personal preference, and he felt it was better for Zhao Xiangjun to choose them herself.
Sitting on the soft, large sofa in the living room with his legs crossed, he asked her, "Xiangjun, how does it feel?"
"It feels like you’ve got money to burn!"
This woman had a knack for killing a conversation in one sentence!
Helpless, he said, "Shall we move in over the next couple of days?"
She replied, "Why the rush? Let’s wait until we have time. We’re doing just fine where we are!"
"Are you serious? You have a luxury mansion and you won't move in, but you want to stick with that dump of an apartment?"
"What dump? I’ve lived there for many years. I’m a sentimental person; I think old things are better, and my own place is best. No matter how grand a golden nest or a silver nest is, it’s not as good as my own dog kennel!"
"Besides, Chen Xiao, I’ve heard that heartless men are always chasing the new and discarding the old. Your behavior today has the distinct air of such a man!"
He was truly wronged. He only felt that the apartment complex was unsafe with so many residents on each floor. This high-end residence had excellent security, and with the entire third floor becoming an independent space, it was significantly safer.
Perhaps it was the unfamiliar environment; she seemed very uncomfortable here. Even though the property deed was in her name, she felt no emotional connection to this place compared to her rented apartment.
He understood her personality; this couldn't be rushed. Once they moved in for a while, she would get used to it.
After sitting for a while, Zhao Xiangjun suggested returning to Hairun Mansion. Naturally, Chen Xiao wasn't going to stay behind and enjoy the luxury mansion alone.
Due to the time, they didn't go back to the apartment to cook, but instead chose a restaurant outside to settle dinner. Zhao Xiangjun paid for the meal, and Chen Xiao didn't try to fight her for it.
Every time she spent money on Chen Xiao, she was actually "gaining both fame and fortune," though she wasn't aware of it herself.
During dinner, he received a WeChat message from his blind date, "As Beautiful as a Flower."
"Chen Xiao, do you always wait for the girl to take the initiative? No wonder you don't have a girlfriend yet!"
He was truly wronged here. It wasn't that he didn't take initiative; he had just forgotten about this particular matter. Look at how proactive he was with Zhao Xiangjun.
