Chapter 32: I Was Blind Not to Recognize a Great Man
"Sir," he said to Chen Yu in a strictly professional tone, "if you cannot keep quiet, we will have no choice but to ask you to leave so as not to disturb the other guests."
Upon hearing this, the crowd wore smug smiles.
See? This is reality. No matter how much you, Chen Yu, can curse or boast, when it comes down to a real confrontation, you are absolutely nothing!
However, Chen Yu did not even glance at Manager Li. He spoke coldly.
"Throw them out. Every single one of them."
The entire private room fell silent once again. Everyone looked at Chen Yu as if he were a complete idiot.
Wang Feng burst into laughter. "Hahahaha! Throw us out? Throw all of us out? Chen Yu, have you actually lost your mind? Manager Li, did you hear that? This guy is mentally unstable! Call security immediately!"
Manager Li’s expression darkened completely. He felt his authority had been challenged. A guy dressed in ordinary clothes, looking like a vagrant, dared to speak to him in such a commanding tone?
"Sir, this is my final warning. Please leave immediately, otherwise..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he saw Chen Yu take a step forward, heading straight toward him. Manager Li instinctively retreated half a step, thinking the man was about to attack, and his eyes grew wary.
"What do you think you're doing? I’m warning you, this is the Golden Splendor. If you dare lay a finger on me..."
Chen Yu ignored his shouting and stopped right in front of him. Then, amidst the mocking and expectant gazes of everyone in the room, he pulled something from his pocket.
It was a card.
It was pitch black, with no patterns, save for a single, elegantly calligraphic "Jiang" character embossed in dark gold thread in the corner.
This card had been given to him by Jiang Zhiyun, who claimed it was a top-tier VIP card valid at all businesses under the Jiang family banner, representing the family’s prestige. Chen Yu had not intended to use it, but today, these blind fools had successfully crossed his bottom line.
He held the black card out toward Manager Li’s face, casually—or perhaps even contemptuously.
"Open your dog eyes and look clearly. Do you recognize this?"
Manager Li’s gaze instinctively fell upon the black card. At first, he didn't pay it much mind.
However, as his vision focused and he took in the full detail of the card—especially that dark gold "Jiang" character—his pupils contracted to the size of pinpricks in a fraction of a second!
Boom!
It was as if a bolt of lightning had struck him square on the head! His brain went blank, and his blood felt as if it had frozen solid in an instant!
A black card! A Jiang family black card!
He had only seen this card once before, in the internal training materials for the group’s top management! The files stated clearly that there were fewer than five such cards in existence issued by the Jiang family! The owner of every single one was a guest of the highest honor and importance. To see this card was to see the head of the Jiang family in person! Anyone holding this card possessed the highest authority—second only to the chairman—at any business under the Jiang family banner!
And he, a mere lobby manager, had just... just spoken to the owner of this card with such an attitude?
Manager Li crumbled instantly! All arrogance and disdain vanished.
"Thud!"
Before anyone else could react, the manager who had been acting so superior just moments ago felt his legs go weak and nearly collapsed to his knees! Fortunately, he grabbed the doorframe just in time to avoid making a scene.
He looked up, his face drained of all color, his forehead glistening with cold sweat. His back bent deeply, almost at a ninety-degree angle.
"I... I am sorry! Sir! I... I was blind and failed to recognize a titan! I am a fool who judged by appearances! I... I deserve to die! Please, I beg you, have mercy on me and spare me this once!"
This scene caused the smiles on the faces of everyone in the room—those who had been waiting to see Chen Yu make a fool of himself—to freeze, crack, and then shatter completely.
Everyone was stunned. Absolutely, utterly stunned.
What had happened? How did Manager Li, who had been so insufferably arrogant that even Wang Feng had to treat him with respect, suddenly bow and apologize to Chen Yu? And what was that about being blind and judging by appearances? What was going on? What exactly was that black card?!
The smug smile on Wang Feng’s face remained frozen at the corners of his mouth. He stared blankly at the groveling Manager Li, then at the icy Chen Yu, feeling that his entire worldview had been overturned in that moment.
Chen Yu ignored the apology. He slowly retracted the black card, put it back in his pocket, and swept his cold gaze across the room. Finally, his finger pointed slowly at the pale-faced Wang Feng.
"From today on, I do not want to see this face in any corner of the Golden Splendor."
His voice carried no emotion.
"And," he glanced at the other students, who were ashen-faced, "throw them all out. I find them filthy; they offend my eyes."
Hearing this, Manager Li felt as if he had been granted a reprieve from death! Without a hint of hesitation or doubt, he straightened his back as if jolted by adrenaline and roared into his walkie-talkie:
"Security department! Security department! Now! Immediately! Send the ten strongest guards to the Emperor Suite on the third floor! Hurry!"
After shouting, he turned back to bow deeply to Chen Yu again, his manner respectful to the extreme:
"Sir, rest assured! I will handle this immediately! I guarantee they will disappear from your sight at once! Forever!"
Having done this, he turned toward the students, who were paralyzed with fear. The fawning expression on his face had turned into pure disgust! If it weren't for these reckless idiots, he never would have offended such a powerful figure!
"What are you standing there for?!" Manager Li roared at them. "A bunch of blind fools! Didn't you hear what this distinguished guest said? Get out! All of you, get out!"
The group was completely bewildered. They could not comprehend what was happening. A female student, her voice trembling, looked toward their only hope—Wang Feng.
"Brother... Brother Wang... what... what is going on? Aren't you close with Manager Li? Say something!"
"Yeah, Brother Wang! You're a section chief, right? By what right does he have us thrown out!"
However, Wang Feng could no longer care about them. His brain had completely crashed. All that remained in his heart was regret! He didn't know what the black card represented, but he knew that anyone who could make Manager Li this terrified was someone he could never, ever afford to provoke.
