Chapter 17: Who Isn't a Fiery Soul?

“A coffin? People like you should just be cremated when you die; what’s the use of a coffin?” Lin Shaowen sneered.
“Lin Shaowen, the old lady is a martyr’s family member!” Yi Zhonghai shouted angrily.
“A martyr’s family member?” Lin Shaowen was slightly taken aback.
“I’m telling you, the old lady is registered at the neighborhood office and is supported by the state. Disrespecting her is breaking the law,” Yi Zhonghai began laying on the heavy accusations.
“Yes, what you’re doing is illegal,” Liu Haizhong also jumped in.
Yan Bugui remained silent, sensing something was off about Lin Shaowen’s reaction.
Too calm.
“Disrespecting a martyr’s family member is illegal?” Lin Shaowen asked uncertainly.
“Of course! You’re a university student and don’t even understand this?” Yi Zhonghai said righteously.
“Is that so?” Lin Shaowen went inside and pulled out a red booklet. “Yi Zhonghai, I’m a martyr’s family member too. Since you just raised your voice at me, shouldn’t you kowtow to me now?”
“You… you’re a martyr’s family member too?”
Everyone was stunned.
“Hurry up! Whoever said disrespecting a martyr’s family member is illegal, come over here and kowtow!” Lin Shaowen waved the red booklet. “Liu Haizhong, why are you hiding? Kowtow now.”
“You—”
Liu Haizhong’s face turned red with anger, but he couldn’t say a word.
“You’re full of hot air, pretending to be cultured but can’t even recognize two big characters,” Lin Shaowen spat at Liu Haizhong, nearly making him cough up blood.
“Oh, ancestor, look at this…” Yi Zhonghai was quite embarrassed.
He never expected Lin Shaowen to be a martyr’s relative. If this escalated, he definitely wouldn’t come out on top.
“Let’s wait until Jia Zhangshi gets back,” the deaf old lady said calmly.
The group immediately slipped away.
“Master, these people don’t look like good folks,” Lei Dali whispered.
“Good eye,” Lin Shaowen praised.
“Then you better be careful…” Lei Dali warned.
“They won’t be able to pull any tricks.”
Lin Shaowen smiled and continued making the wardrobe.
Yi Zhonghai and the others waited and waited but couldn’t wait for Jia Zhangshi to return.
As dusk approached, they finally lost patience and had Jia Dongxu ride Yan Bugui’s bike to the steel mill. For this, Yi Zhonghai paid three mao.
Yan Bugui wasn’t one to curry favor.
Half an hour later.
Jia Dongxu returned looking distraught.
“What happened?” Yi Zhonghai asked anxiously.

“The factory said my mother falsely accused Doctor Lin and will send her for legal punishment. They even asked who told her to do it…” Jia Dongxu was nearly wetting his pants.
If she went to jail, it would be over for all of them.
Not one of them could escape.
Thud!
Yi Zhonghai and Liu Haizhong collapsed onto the ground, staring blankly at Jia Dongxu.
“Dongxu, you have to tell your mother to hang in there,” Yan Bugui said anxiously. “If she rats us out, none of us will have jobs.”
“Right, right, Dongxu, tell Aunt Jia to hold on,” Liu Haizhong also looked scared.
“What did the factory say exactly?” Yi Zhonghai asked calmly.
“They didn’t say much, but after I gave the security department a cigarette, they told me to find Doctor Lin. If Doctor Lin doesn’t press charges, this will be fine,” Jia Dongxu’s eyes were red.
“Master, you have to help my mom. She’s old and can’t go to jail,” he pleaded.
Yi Zhonghai glanced at the deaf old lady but found her half-asleep in a chair, pretending not to hear him.
Great, no hope there.
The only option now was to find Lin Shaowen, but Lin Shaowen certainly wouldn’t agree easily.
“For now, there is only one solution… make Lin Shaowen commit a crime,” Yi Zhonghai’s eyes turned to Qin Huairu.
“Master, you mean… have Huairu seduce him?” Jia Dongxu barely finished before Qin Huairu slapped him.
“Jia Dongxu, how could you say that? Are you even human?”
“What’s wrong, you dare hit me?”
Already angry, Jia Dongxu grabbed Qin Huairu’s hair, ready to teach her a lesson.
But before he could move, Shazhu grabbed him.
“Dongxu, calm down, Qin sister is just angry.”
“Mind your own business.”
Jia Dongxu pushed Shazhu away and growled, “Don’t pretend to be a good guy. I know you sneak peeks at Qin Huairu. I just didn’t want to expose you.”
Shazhu’s face instantly flushed bright red.
Qin Huairu knelt on the ground, heartbroken.
She hated herself for being vain, for marrying into the city and ending up with such a monster.
“Huairu, now there’s no other way…” Yi Zhonghai said earnestly, “Sneak into his room at midnight. If he tries anything, scream loudly and we’ll rush in immediately.”
“Did you hear Master?” Jia Dongxu said fiercely.
“All right.”
Qin Huairu agreed at once.
But she agreed too quickly, which annoyed Jia Dongxu.
“Bitch, have you already set your eyes on that pretty boy?”
Qin Huairu ignored him and went back to her room to boil water for a bath.

“Dongxu, stop messing around. Be alert tonight,” Yi Zhonghai comforted.
“Got it.”
Jia Dongxu swallowed his anger.
That night.
Shazhu happily brought two pieces of meat and two bottles of wine to join Lin Shaowen for dinner as a gesture of thanks.
Lin Shaowen didn’t suspect a thing; free food was always welcome.
They drank until late, and Shazhu was helped home by Yan Jiefang and Yan Jiekang.
Lin Shaowen took a shower and lay down.
But shortly after lying down, a figure quietly slipped in and climbed under his blanket without a word.
“What the hell? What’s going on?” Lin Shaowen panicked, ready to call out, but his mouth was covered.
“Xiao Lin, it’s me,” Qin Huairu blushed.
“Qin Huairu, what are you doing? This is dangerous,” Lin Shaowen whispered angrily. In these times, messing around like this was really courting death.
“Xiao Lin, don’t be afraid. They want to harm you…”
Hiding under the covers, Qin Huairu told Lin Shaowen everything.
“Damn, Jia Dongxu must have been completely fooled by Yi Zhonghai. How could he be so reckless?” Lin Shaowen was dumbfounded.
Even if nothing happened between them, if news got out, Jia Dongxu would still end up with a green head.
“Xiao Lin, don’t be afraid. Since they want me here, I’ll…” Qin Huairu said, then kissed him.
Lin Shaowen was very flustered, especially when Qin Huairu said a group was hiding outside the yard. He really wasn’t in the mood.
But Qin Huairu was very proactive.
Soon, the bed began to shake.
Half an hour later.
Outside the yard.
“How long has Qin sister been inside? She wouldn’t really let that guy take advantage of her, would she?” Shazhu whispered.
“Shut up!” Yi Zhonghai snapped.
Jia Dongxu said nothing but looked pale.
Yan Bugui and Liu Haizhong exchanged strange looks, both wondering the same thing: why hadn’t Qin Huairu screamed yet?
