Volume One, Chapter 39: Congratulations to You

Su Wan Ning did not truly believe Su Wan Qing’s words, but faced with her unwavering gaze and recalling the phone call with Xie Yanchen just now—he was indeed at the old residence—she could not dismiss it entirely.
She knew about the Xie family matriarch; years ago, Su Wan Qing’s grandfather had saved Xie Yanchen’s grandfather, which led to the alliance between the Xie and Su families through marriage.
She had met the Xie matriarch in childhood, but the woman had always treated her coldly. Even at Su Wan Ning’s wedding with Xie Yanchen, after failing to suppress her opposition, the matriarch clearly declared she would not participate.
However, that had never affected Su Wan Ning. After all, no matter how domineering the matriarch was, she could never make Xie Yanchen stop loving her.
Yet later, she heard that Xie Yanchen not only had an affair with Su Wan Qing but had officially married her and even had a child with her...
It was impossible not to be shocked. She even once suspected Xie Yanchen’s heart had changed.
Until she sent a woman who resembled her to approach Xie Yanchen at a bar. Although she warned that woman not to get involved with him, when she saw the photo the woman sent—Xie Yanchen holding her in his arms, whispering “An Ning”—she finally confirmed that Xie Yanchen still deeply loved her.
It was just that he was perhaps forced to marry Su Wan Qing.
Realizing this, Su Wan Ning deliberately stayed abroad for two more years before returning home this year.
After returning, she did not contact Xie Yanchen immediately. But when Su Guoxing held a banquet for her, and despite not informing Xie Yanchen, he appeared and presented her with a one-of-a-kind diamond necklace, she knew she had made the right bet.
But now, seeing Su Wan Qing’s resolute eyes, her confidence suddenly faltered.
She took out her phone and dialed Xie Yanchen.
Yet after a moment’s thought, she hung up.
Her current image was that of a gentle, radiant first love; she could not confront him with accusations.
Moreover, even if they were not divorced yet, it was certainly not because Xie Yanchen regretted it. It had to be that wretched Su Wan Qing had done something, making it impossible for him to divorce!
She glared at Su Wan Qing. “Don’t think I’ll come find Yanchen to make a scene just because of this. Even if you two aren’t divorced, his heart belongs to me. We both know that.”
She wore a haughty, triumphant expression, disdain evident in her eyes. “I’m not like you, resorting to such despicable tricks!”
Though she tried her best to appear calm, Su Wan Qing saw the panic flickering across her face.
Yet she felt no triumph.
For a moment, she could not understand why she had said those words.

Su Wan Qing gazed steadily into her eyes and said calmly, “Yes, there is a thirty-day divorce cooling-off period. During this time, he and I will stay at the old residence. But don’t worry, we will divorce after thirty days. Then you may do as you please.”
She stated the facts, having decided to let go. There was no need to engage in a battle with someone else.
Having finished speaking, she left without waiting for Su Wan Ning’s reply.
After a while, Su Wan Ning’s voice came from behind, “Of course you’ll divorce. Su Wan Qing, you will never win against me!”
Su Wan Qing did not look back. She smiled wryly, but the smile did not reach her eyes.
Back then, Su Wan Ning had lied to her, claiming there was no affection between her and Xie Yanchen, that they had been forced into marriage, and that she still had unfinished academic dreams and did not want to be a full-time housewife.
She had begged her to save her.
Now, looking back, it seemed full of loopholes, but at the time, she had not noticed.
Forget it. Reconcile with the past, reconcile with herself...
She sighed softly and quickly entered a phone store. “Hello, I want your latest model.”
The clerk hurried over to assist. “Miss, what features do you need? Photography? Music? Gaming?”
Su Wan Qing waved her hand and handed over her old phone. “I just want to replace this. No special requirements.”
Her words stunned the clerk briefly, but as a salesperson who had seen it all, she noticed the girl’s reddened eyes and suspected it was related to matters of the heart.
She glanced at the phone and recognized it as a model from five years ago. Apparently, she was here to say goodbye to the past.
The clerk did not press further and simply handed her the latest model of the same brand. “Congratulations.”
Neither spoke much, but at that moment, it seemed as if everything had been said.
Su Wan Qing smiled as she accepted the phone. In recent days, she had received more kindness outside—from strangers—than from Xie Yanchen or her own family.
That alone proved leaving them had been the right choice.
After changing her phone, she felt a great release from the long-suppressed emotions, as if a heavy stone had fallen from her heart.
After calling Li Shan to confirm the time, she then called Zheng Lu.
“Qingqing, how’s it going? Are you divorced yet?”
Less than a second later, the call was answered, accompanied by the sound of spatulas stirring in a pan.
She was puzzled. “Are you cooking?”
Zheng Lu chuckled. “Yeah, I saw some leftovers from this morning, so I thought I’d cook a bit.”
“...”
Su Wan Qing’s relaxed mind suddenly ached again.
Zheng Lu had worked for many years. She usually ate at the company cafeteria, grabbed something on the way home, or ordered takeout. She rarely cooked herself.
Her few attempts at cooking could only be described as culinary disasters.
Rubbing her temples, Su Wan Qing asked, “You wouldn’t make Ke Xin eat your cooking, would you?”
Zheng Lu retorted, “What do you mean ‘your cooking’? Qingqing, you look down on me!”
Su Wan Qing had planned to eat something simple out for lunch, but seeing this, she decided to rush back home.
“Leave everything as it is, don’t touch anything. I’ll be right back.”
Glancing at the time, she estimated it would take about twenty minutes to get home from here. There was no time to cook herself, so she would pick up some takeout nearby on the way back.
Hearing this, Zheng Lu protested loudly on the phone, “Qingqing, you don’t trust me! This time I really cooked well! Not a single thing burnt!”
Su Wan Qing played along, “Alright, alright, if you didn’t burn it, you’re amazing. But eating the same food morning and noon won’t do. Wait for me—I’ll bring some delicious food back. Don’t eat yet.”
At that moment, the conversation had shifted, and Zheng Lu suddenly realized that Su Wan Qing had not answered her original question.
The sound of the spatula stopped, and Zheng Lu’s voice turned serious. “You two still aren’t divorced, are you?”
Su Wan Qing said nothing, but her silence was an unspoken admission. Just as she was about to explain, Zheng Lu slammed the pan down on the stove.
“Su Wan Qing! Don’t tell me you’re still holding back!? Damn you, you hopeless romantic! You’re driving me crazy! I’m going to kidnap Ke Xin!! By the time you get back, you won’t even see her!!”
