Chapter 8: The Phone Was Confiscated

Seeing Cheng Xiaoxiao’s face suddenly change, Wen Miaohan felt a secret thrill. Fortunately, she was the female lead, not one of those unfortunate cannon fodder supporting characters. Although the early chapters had set many obstacles for the heroine, being the protagonist naturally came with a halo of protection. Secretly installing surveillance cameras in the office, buying dirt on the rival from a friendly paparazzo—these pieces of evidence, handed to the heroine early on, were originally meant for tormenting her family and fans after her death. Wen Miaohan had merely preemptively exposed these materials; what use was tormenting family and fans after death? It would all turn to dust, with no benefit to her. It was far better to release everything now and reap immediate rewards.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was visibly flustered before the camera, but fortunately, her manager reacted swiftly, grabbing a black pen and scribbling a few words on paper, holding it up for Cheng Xiaoxiao to see.
(The bite mark photo was Photoshopped.)
Seeing these words was like clutching a lifeline for Cheng Xiaoxiao. She cried hysterically, “Wen Miaohan, you’re disgusting! Using doctored photos to mislead the public and smear my name. Bullying me in private wasn’t enough; now you’re doing it openly.” She blinked once, and large tears rolled down her cheeks, perfectly playing the part of the pitiable victim.
Wen Miaohan responded with a derisive laugh, tapping the screen to play several videos. If she was going to expose dirt, she wouldn’t stop at a few pictures. Photos could be manipulated in many ways; she preferred to watch others’ desperate struggles, initially giving the illusion of a last breath of hope, only to crush them with a final blow.
As the videos played, Cheng Xiaoxiao’s mouth opened slightly, tears still clinging to the corners of her eyes—her shock was palpable.
“Really hitting hard now!”
“Cheng Xiaoxiao’s fans, why are you all silent?”
“I was blind. Since I liked someone like that, I’m unfollowing.”
“+1, I must have had my eyes glued shut before. So disgusting.”
“Unfollow if you want; Xiaoxiao baby doesn’t care about your love.”
“Disgusting... baby? Baby in bed?”
With videos as evidence, rational fans began to unfollow, while irrational ones launched indiscriminate attacks. The chat room became a chaotic mess.
Leaning against her hospital bed, Wen Miaohan calmly watched the chaos unfold. When the noise died down somewhat, she spoke, “Stop fighting, stop fighting. I haven’t finished serving the dishes yet; don’t ruin my livestream!”

“Wow, more dirt!”
“Is Cheng Xiaoxiao about to collapse completely, down to the foundation?”
“Please feed us more, lovely and charming Miss Wen Miaohan, hurry and serve the juicy gossip.”
“Don’t rush! Videos must be played one by one. After these three, I’ll share more.”
(The call ended, friend went offline.)
Just as Wen Miaohan was speaking, Cheng Xiaoxiao cut off the connection.
“Is she fleeing in panic?”
“Whether Cheng Xiaoxiao is here or not doesn’t matter; I just want to watch the show now.”
“Whoa…”
A vibration interrupted; the phone screen showed an incoming call. Wen Miaohan didn’t even glance at it, immediately hanging up—she was live streaming now; even the calls of top celebrities could wait.
But as soon as she hung up, the call came again, as if the caller intended to bombard her until she answered.
“Who keeps calling me? Hold on, every time there’s a call, the stream lags a bit.”
After hanging up again and finishing the first three videos, Wen Miaohan was about to play the much-anticipated new footage when the phone rang once more, causing unbearable lag. Annoyed, she switched to airplane mode.
Inside the hotel room.
Cheng Xiaoxiao, whose calls were repeatedly rejected, angrily smashed her phone.
“What now? She won’t answer my calls. If she keeps exposing me like this, I’m finished.”
No sooner had she spoken than her manager, watching the live stream, coldly said, “You’re already finished.”
The manager turned the phone screen toward Cheng Xiaoxiao to show her the evidence.
In the video, Cheng Xiaoxiao, still wearing a school uniform matching her group, was cornering a girl on a rooftop—she appeared to still be a student then.
“Oh my god! What did I just see...?”
“This little troublemaker has transformed into a pure goddess? I’m disgusted...”

“Is this the same Cheng Xiaoxiao who publicly admitted she was scared even to kill a cockroach?”
“Afraid of a cockroach but dares to bully people. Has she become less than a cockroach?”
“Ban her! This kind of person must be banned. School bullying is terrifying for victims!”
“I can’t imagine how much the girl being beaten hates and feels helpless seeing Cheng Xiaoxiao turn into a glamorous star.”
“Knock knock…”
A knock sounded at the door. Wen Miaohan looked up as Wen Haoyu entered, saying, “The doctor said you need to rest properly.”
Surprised, Wen Miaohan asked, “Second brother, why are you still at the hospital?”
“Wow, that voice just now was Director Wen!”
“Aw, our Miaohan finally has family caring for her again.”
“Looks like Miaohan is really sick. Director Wen is here at the hospital. What to do? I don’t want Miaohan to die...”
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s fans quieted down, and Wen Miaohan’s fans finally reclaimed the chat room.
Just as they were getting lively, Wen Miaohan abruptly ended the livestream.
“Hey… why did you end the stream? I haven’t finished chatting with everyone yet, there’s more about Cheng Xiaoxiao to spill. It’s so frustrating to stop halfway; many people won’t sleep well tonight.”
Wen Miaohan glared sharply at Wen Haoyu, who had ended the stream without her permission.
Wen Haoyu pocketed the phone and said calmly, “The company’s PR will handle the follow-up. They’ll make sure everyone gets the full story. To prevent you from not resting properly, I’ve confiscated your phone.”
Without waiting for a response, Wen Haoyu turned and left quickly. In these times, taking someone’s phone was like taking their food; if he didn’t move fast, Wen Miaohan would surely beg him to surrender.
He was gone before Wen Miaohan could react.
“Give me back my phone!!!”
She shouted, hurriedly getting out of bed. Then she remembered she was still hooked up to an IV, and the medication required precise dosing through an infusion pump that had to remain plugged in. Even if she wanted to run, she couldn’t just lift the device…
