Chapter 13: My Former Fiancé Is an Utter Sycophant
The Wen family had just stepped out of the hospital room when Wen Miaohan, having finished venting about the plot she had written, finally opened her eyes.
Yes, the timing was just that perfect.
“Oh, so the Wen family leaves and you stop pretending! Hah… Wen Miaohan, resorting to faking illness for sympathy now? Changing your identity like this, you’re becoming more and more disgraceful,” Cao Ye sneered, his disdain for Wen Miaohan laid bare without any pretense.
“Where’s that dog barking so wildly?” Wen Miaohan replied coolly.
Cao Ye hadn’t expected such a response; for a moment, he didn’t realize she was insulting him. He even turned to listen for the source of the barking, then froze suddenly, staring at Wen Miaohan in disbelief.
“Did you just call me a dog?”
Wen Miaohan cast him a cool glance. “I didn’t call you that. Everyone knows the second young master of the Cao family is number one in worshipping Xie Ziyi.”
Cao Ye chuckled lightly at her words. “What, jealous? Fine, I’m happy to be Ziyi’s lapdog. She’s pure and charming—every strand of her hair smells sweet. Someone like you, with your lowly background, could never envy her.”
Cao Ye’s words successfully disgusted Wen Miaohan. She rolled her eyes to the ceiling. Indeed, Xie Ziyi, the queen of the nightclub scene, did seem to radiate allure—how else could she captivate so many men?
One wonders how Cao Ye, a foolish lapdog, would feel if he knew that this woman had even been with male models from the club, yet he hadn’t even touched her hand. Oh, a lapdog like Cao Ye would probably become even more fervent—after all, what you can’t have always stirs unrest.
“Then why aren’t you running around licking your goddess, instead of coming here to disgust me?” Wen Miaohan retorted.
Cao Ye threw up his hands and sank into the armchair. “Do you think I want to come here? My old man made me come to ‘build a relationship’ with you and continue the engagement. Since you don’t have long to live, I’m magnanimous enough to let you hold the title of Second Young Madam of the Cao family for a while! How about it? Excited to hear I want to marry you? If you’re so thrilled you don’t know how to thank me, I’ve got a suggestion—come kneel and bow to me three times.”
Cao Ye’s audacity was so repulsive that Wen Miaohan didn’t want to look at his bloated face any longer. She decisively pressed the call button beside her bed.
The moment the bell rang, doctors, nurses, and the Wen family all appeared swiftly.
“Hān Hān, what’s wrong?” Wen’s mother rushed to the bedside anxiously.
Seeing the worry in her eyes stirred something deep within Wen Miaohan. It was the first time in her life she had seen such a gaze.
Though the concern was for the original person, at this moment, that gaze was upon herself, and she could feel the warmth in it.
Not wanting to cause her mother any more worry, Wen Miaohan quickly said, “Mom, I’m fine. It’s just that Second Young Master Cao disgusted me. He said, since I’m about to die, he’d let me sit in the position of Second Young Madam of the Cao family and even asked me to kowtow to thank him.
“Mom, has our Wen family gone bankrupt? Can Dad and my brothers no longer support me? Is the title of Second Miss Wen no match for some damn Second Young Madam Cao?”
Wen Miaohan’s words changed the expressions of everyone in the room. Cao Zhiwei glared fiercely at Cao Ye, furious that the reckless brat had messed things up again.
Cao Ye looked shocked. Although he had often insulted Wen Miaohan behind the scenes, she had quietly endured it. Why was she acting so differently today?
Before Cao Ye could figure it out, someone grabbed him by the collar with force. The next moment, the one meter seventy-eight tall man was being pulled out of the hospital room.
Seeing Cao Ye being dragged out by Wen Haoxuan, Wen Haoyu followed him, and Wen Miaohan knew trouble was brewing.
“Brother Cao, although Wen Zhaoyang has retired these years, my sons still hold their own. Not saying they’re extraordinary, but supporting the family is no problem. You should leave that bowl of rice for others to carry!” Wen father, now thoroughly annoyed, dropped formalities and addressed Cao Zhiwei simply as “Brother Cao.”
Cao Zhiwei knew the man was truly angry and was about to explain when Wen Haoran, dressed in a white coat, burst in with doctors and nurses.
“The patient is unwell; all unauthorized personnel please leave immediately!”
Having seen bodyguards roughing up Cao Ye outside, Wen Haoxuan and Wen Haoyu stood aside. Hearing Wen father’s words, Wen Haoran, acting in his capacity as a doctor, promptly ushered Cao father out.
Cao father left the room sulkily, and upon seeing the bruised and battered Cao Ye, slapped him again on the forehead before storming off in a rage.
Inside the hospital room, Wen Haoran approached with the medical team to question Wen Miaohan. Seeing she was alright, he led the group back to the conference room to discuss the treatment plan.
As the room returned to calm, the mechanical sounds resumed.
“Congratulations, host, you have revised another plot point, breaking free from the heroine’s love-struck foolishness and unreasonable sweetness. Mission rewards have been deposited into your inventory.”
At the system’s prompt, Wen Miaohan’s eyebrows shot up with joy. Her mother, seeing her so happy, assumed it was because Cao Ye had been dealt with and smiled, saying, “You’re so pleased, looks like our Hān Hān really doesn’t like that Cao Ye after all.”
After checking the new rewards in her inventory, Wen Miaohan smiled and replied, “I never really liked him. Before, I was just being polite because he was my fiancé. Now that the engagement is broken and the two families are no longer bound by it, I don’t bother pretending with him anymore.”
“Mom, I’m hungry.”
Hearing this, Wen’s mother hurriedly brought over the breakfast she had prepared earlier. Perhaps it was the special medicine she had taken before, but Wen Miaohan ate heartily, showing no signs of discomfort.
After finishing, the nurse came to administer an IV, but Wen Miaohan, recalling the special medicine from the system, worried about possible drug interactions and refused.
“I won’t have the IV, and I don’t want to stay in the hospital any longer,” Wen Miaohan said firmly.
“Hān Hān, you’re so ill, how can you refuse treatment?” her mother objected.
Wen Miaohan shook her head gently. “Because I’m so sick now, I don’t want to stay in the hospital, dealing with all these bottles and needles every day.
“Mom, a good mood now is far better for my health than any medicine. If you want me to feel well, I have to go home.”
“Then we’ll do as Hān Hān wishes.”
Before her mother could hesitate further, Wen Haoxuan had already made the decision.
As long as Wen Miaohan agreed to go home, the treatment was simple—just bring the medical team to the house.
Wen Miaohan’s eyes brightened at Wen Haoxuan’s decision. Seeing Wen Haoyu behind him, she quickly said, “Second Brother, give me back my phone!”
