Jing Yan set down the pestle and walked over to the nearby table, picking up a mirror to carefully examine the clear and handsome face reflected within. His phoenix-like eyes narrowed slightly. “Yin—Xun—when you return, I will settle the score with you.”
He put down the mirror and sat back on the medicine table, lifting the pestle to begin grinding herbs once more.
Yet, when he glanced upward, a watery veil lifted again in the upper right corner.
He watched the woman in the image, surrounded by drifting night-glow lights. “You’re really regressing, smashing the birthday gift I gave you—hmpf!”
The pestle struck the stone mortar with force. “And that person—what happened? Wasn’t the plan for him to assist her? What kind of mess is this? She’s left with her meridians utterly destroyed, her flesh newly grown!”
“If it weren’t for the half-bloodline still within her, gathered long ago, could I have let her be treated so?”
Jing Yan regretted it.
Indeed, it was still safest to keep her close.
Her spirit, painstakingly mended, could not endure further abuse—otherwise, no amount of cultivation spent over a lifetime could restore it.
Jing Yan rose, stepped out of the structure, leaving the tiny space he had forged within the Nightshade Pool of the Netherworld.
Suddenly, he vanished from the Netherworld.

A black carriage raced down a street long under curfew. Numerous patrolling soldiers saw it and intended to stop it, but upon seeing the glaring emblem on the front, they halted immediately.
“So late at night, where is Young Master Gu headed?” one soldier asked. Another, the leader, swiftly slapped the helmet of the first.
Pointing sharply at his forehead, he growled, “Keep your head on your belt and sew your mouth shut, understood?”
The soldier nodded vigorously, “Got it, Brother Dou.”
“Hmph.”
The soldier hurried to catch up behind the leader. “Brother, brother, big brother, tell me—what exactly is Young Master Gu? Why are we all so afraid of him?”
Before he finished, the leader lifted his foot and signaled him over—not really meaning to kick, just to intimidate.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Brother Dou, I’m just afraid of getting into trouble with the nobility. Please, have mercy on my sincere heart!”
Wu Jing relaxed his grip. “You’re just a troublemaker, but don’t offend this young master. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless. You won’t know mercy.”
A crackling sound came from his wrist—a noise that seemed to pierce the bones.

“Got it, Brother Dou.”
“Back to your posts.”
“Mmhmm~~”
Li Ming sat outside, driving the carriage at high speed.
Inside the carriage, harsh coughing sounded intermittently, causing Li Ming some concern. The carriage gradually slowed.
“Master, it’s probably too late even if we hurry. Your illness can’t withstand such strain. Perhaps we should take it slow.”
“Cough, cough—no, faster.”
Li Ming had no choice but to speed up, though he wondered, “Master is too loyal. Back when the heir of the Wei State Duke treated him well, part ofI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
