Chapter Thirty-Nine: Cunning Schemes
“Shouldn’t you be the one managing this? Father said before that after she left, all property divisions would be handled by you.”
Lawyer Ke thought the same, but no matter how anxious he was, his face still carried a gentle, refined smile.
Yet there was a trace of incomprehensible confusion in his eyes—no one could explain this matter, except those two women.
Neither bothered with explanations, and soon they arrived at the old mansion. When they’d come before, half of the estate had already been sold. But now, it seemed as if the mansion had suddenly become whole again.
All dividing lines had been removed, and it was seamlessly restored.
Yuan Yaor sat on a sun chair at the entrance, indifferent to the beautiful scenery. She waited there as if Buddha were waiting for her; Yuan Xiangdie could only sense this.
“Oh, my dear sister, you’ve finally arrived. Before, mother and I had to sell the house out of necessity, but look now—we’ve bought the entire mansion back.”
Her gloating was palpable, and the smile on her face could rival that of a wide-mouthed clown, not caring if she might tear her mouth apart.
“What tricks have you pulled?” Yuan Xiangdie questioned, gripping her purse tightly. If Yuan Yaor uttered anything disgusting, Yuan Xiangdie truly would become a furious lioness and pounce.
“Miss, please calm yourself,” Lawyer Ke remained composed. If things escalated, it would be detrimental to all.
Yuan Xiangdie could not possibly calm down; it was obvious this mother-daughter pair was up to no good.
“Yes, it’s true—mother and I did this. But we merely reclaimed what should have been ours. What’s wrong with that? You destroyed Xunfang, that was your ability. But I took the shares, and that’s mine.”
Such shamelessness was new even to Yuan Xiangdie, who had seen all kinds of resignation in prison; before Yuan Yaor, she could only admit defeat.
“So you’re saying, each according to their abilities? Fine, then let’s do that. If you can produce the will, let’s have it authenticated publicly.”
“You really are stupid, aren’t you? Has drawing made you dumb? We’ve already had a professional handwriting expert verify it—this is genuine. The one published internally at the company was fake. Who would’ve thought the old man was wise enough to leave a backup.”
Now it was time for Lawyer Ke and Yuan Xiangdie to get serious. Yuan Xiangdie was not easily defeated—her resilience had been forged over years.
“I demand another verification of the will. I refuse to believe Father would leave everything to you. Besides, Grandfather isn’t even dead yet. Aren’t you afraid the company’s elders will oust you?”
Yuan Yaor’s gaze turned venomous, yet she seemed to hear something amusing and covered her grinning mouth with her hand.
She rushed to the railing, gripping it tightly.
“You know those old geezers. They’ve all been promised that if they support Mother and me, we’ll treat them well, and their annual dividends and interest will never fall short. Why are they so stubborn? Must I seize their shares and ruin their families before they yield?” Now, anyone who opposed Zhang Xi in the company had already been demoted; the Yuan Corporation was essentially ruled by this pair.
The funds for Yuan Lan’s treatment had been completely cut off, especially the special allocation. When the clinic called, Yuan Xiangdie was caught off guard.
“Miss, hello. The payments made by Mr. Yuan Lan at our facility are insufficient to cover costs through tonight. Please remit the remaining amount promptly, or arrange for his relocation. Our time is valuable as well.”
Yuan Xiangdie had anticipated such a move, but had refused to believe it along the way.
“All right, thank you. I’ll come this afternoon. Please carry on as usual and say nothing to him.”
She quickly hung up, afraid she’d lose control and scream if the call lasted any longer.
It made little difference—everything she held fell to the ground. Yuan Xiangdie felt as shameless as the woman before her, leaning over the railing and exchanging curses.
“He’s your grandfather too. Why do this to him?”
Yuan Yaor cared nothing for such things, her face full of mockery. Her eyes, wide and unblinking, brimmed with resentment and curses. Yuan Xiangdie felt a chill—what kind of environment had shaped this woman?
“You think this is cruel? When Mother and I moved in, you have no idea how that old man tried to stop us. Of course, you’re his real granddaughter. A wild child like me, of unknown origin, was never welcome.”
Before she could respond, Yuan Yaor simply turned on the electricity. Their gate was equipped with a charge device, partly to deter troublemakers.
But they feared fatalities, so it was only a mild current—enough to overwhelm a woman’s endurance.
“Ah!”
Yuan Xiangdie was jolted and quickly let go. Lawyer Ke was astonished.
“Miss Yuan, how could you do this? When your father installed this electric fence, it was meant to protect you and your mother from the villagers’ harassment, not to harm family.”
Yuan Yaor found it even funnier, “Lawyer Ke, you’re right—protecting me and my mother.
Now, someone’s trying to harm me. Isn’t what I’m doing justified?”
Yuan Xiangdie’s body was convulsing, unable to muster strength. If not for Lawyer Ke’s support, she would have collapsed, and then, as before, whatever Yuan Yaor said would be law.
Yuan Xiangdie weakly spoke, slowly gripping Lawyer Ke’s arm for support.
“Let’s go back. Don’t argue with this madwoman. We must solve Grandfather’s hospitalization, or all will be lost.”
Lawyer Ke, though sympathetic, had no choice but to comply. The old man was their only chance of victory; if he was gone, the entire corporation would fall to those two women.
“Miss Yuan Yaor, I hope you’ll consider your actions carefully. As the corporation’s chief legal advisor, I resign from all my positions starting today. Without my credibility, I believe many companies will refuse further cooperation with you.”
Yuan Xiangdie was deeply moved. Lawyer Ke had done all he could.
Back in the car, Yuan Xiangdie’s body still trembled uncontrollably. Even picking things up, she dropped her phone several times, cracking the screen.
“Miss Yuan Xiangdie, have you made your decision? Regarding the old man’s expenses, I can help cover part of it. Your father supported me greatly in the past; it’s time I repaid the favor.”
Such an offer was a repayment in itself. Yuan Xiangdie knew well about her grandfather’s condition—when Jin Yuan had taken her and the old man to the hospital, she had seen the payment slip herself.
She felt utterly exhausted and hopeless, but it wasn’t over. The first person to appear in her mind was Jin Yuan.
If she helped him run the spring exhibition, she’d earn 3% of the profits. By following the company’s requirements for execution and sales, each quarter would reach a sales peak, breaking records every time.
Last year, spring quarter sales reached 300 million.
“Take me to the company. I know who can help me.”
In this matter, only Jin Yuan could help her.
Julie wasn’t suitable for involvement—her family dealt with government contracts. If they became entangled with a private corporation, it would affect their supply chain, and if exploited by others, she’d never be able to repay the favor.
Zhang Yunchuan understood immediately, but as a lawyer, he wouldn’t normally approve of such methods.
Yuan Xiangdie understood, “I spent three years in prison—three whole years. I’m not without ambition; I know what you want to advise me. But only this way gives us a chance to win. I will not let Grandfather and Father’s information fall into those women’s hands.”
Her resolve was set. Lawyer Ke seemed to see the old man’s spirit once more.
Jin Yuan was already aware of the situation. Previously, Yuan Yaor had auctioned 15% of Yuan Corporation’s shares to buy an extravagant royal jewelry necklace and crown.
Jin Yuan had bought those 15% shares and gifted them to his son as a first birthday present.
Sitting in his office, Jin Yuan rested his eyes, his mind searching for useful information.
This was the handiwork of that mother and daughter; Yuan Xiangdie couldn’t face them alone. Yuan Lan’s transfer was to the Yuan Corporation’s private hospital, which normally wouldn’t force a move, but lack of funds—or perhaps the hospital had been sold—changed everything.
But after this incident, Jin Yuan’s first thought was what method to use to help her.
Compared to the corporate transfer, his concern for her seemed more unsettling.
“Sweet Assistant, come in for a moment.”
“Mr. President, you called?”
Sweet Xiaomeng had no idea why the cold-faced lunatic wanted her, but she knew only one thing—his mood was very poor…
“Go wait outside the office door. Don’t let anyone in. If it’s Yuan Xiangdie, especially don’t let her in.”
